Decent enough effort, some crackin jokes and likable characters

Warning: Spoilers
First off you can tell straight away that this is an amateur effort but by no means is it a poor one. You can see as the episodes progress the quality of the production improving in the framing of the shots and lighting. The jokes are a bit hit and miss at times but mostly hits. The best characters by far are Skull and Tails, Skull is a love or hate kind of character though personally I find him pretty funny even if the accent is a bit hard to understand sometimes. Tails is cute and I love the little geeky references she has on her t-shirts or that she says, I find her pretty interesting and would like to see more of her character but not to the point where she monopolises the show. The whole Ginge/Chloe love story is interesting but I don't think there's enough time spent on it, it feels like more focus is on showing that Ginge is a douche than actually showing how he's managing to win over Chloe. I suppose with such short episodes there's only so much you can do.

All in all I think it's a good effort from all those involved, there's clearly been a lot of hard work gone into this and even though I'm not a 'metalhead' myself I still enjoy watching these characters at the pub and trying badly to chat up girls.

Funny and has a lot of potential so here's hoping if there's a Season 2 they manage to improve the few faults that there is.

Don't get why the hatred, pretty good effort
BrowncoatMike12 April 2014
I don't get why some folk feel the need to tear apart someone else's work but I suppose it is easier to criticize than it is to create.

I thought this was pretty good. There was a hell of a lot of potential that sadly didn't get used but for a first time production - at least I'm guessing that from those involved - it has to be commended. I definitely couldn't do anything like this, and it makes for a hell of a change from the usual generic shows on US TV.

So all the characters are trying to hook up with the people they fancy, dunno about the other people throwing tantrums over it but that's life. At least it is for everyone I know, so we could related with things not going their way.

So basically go into this knowing it's pretty much a first time production on what looks to be little to no money, and remind yourself not to take it too seriously and you'll enjoy it.

Or if your head is up your arse, maybe you should go back to the 'Friends' marathons. Oh wait, they spend all their time trying to hook up with people too...hmm.

Anyway, I'm a fan now.

Appealing to friends, but an insult to take further.

Warning: Spoilers
'Metalhedz' is one of those shows that you can sit down and watch with your friends, point out and say "There I am, sitting in the background." You will watch it to spot yourself, but what does that mean to everybody who wasn't a part of it? Nothing...

The show is full of unlikable characters, a lack of story with little depth (and what depth we do see is rather cliché and to be blunt, cringing). Reading the synopsis and character bio's it actually didn't seem like that bad of an idea, only that almost none of what was written was actually shown on screen.

We have Tails, a geeky young woman who is in love with her friend Beki and struggles to find a way to ask her out.

Beki, hangs out with the team...I can't say much more.

Ginge, womaniser, but falls for Chloe (an incredibly unlikable, though attractive woman) But she wants nothing to do with him because of his reputation. On the side though, Ginge still pursues other women.

Skull, an incredibly rude, sex obsessed human being who makes the inappropriate jokes to disgust others. (The interviews and bios claimed that his attitude was covering loneliness though it was ever shown, a missed opportunity).

Notice anything? That's right, all of these characters have the same story, they want to get laid or be in a relationship. This is the year 2014 and this the best material they can come up with? I wish I could discuss sub-plots but there aren't any. Every episode just follows our group of friends either at a party or in the pub, telling the same juvenile style of jokes to one another (and acting as if they are hilarious in the process). On top of that, the little plot that the show does contain all seems to progress off screen. For example Ginge and Chloe have a conversation which makes it clear that she wants nothing to do with him, in the next episode they are cute texting one another, why the sudden progression and did the director not think that it would be important for us to see it?

In a show advertised as showing that 'Metalheads' (WE SPELL IT 'Metalhedz' TO BE COOL) are just like everybody else, they do not show the characters doing anything to get that message across. People of all social classes drink and have relationships, we do not get to see these characters interact with family, work, college, going from point A to point B. Humans are on a different frame of mind when we are drinking around friends, so to show every character only in this environment just limits what was already a pretty bland idea. They don't look like metalheads, nor are they even referred to as such in the show, they are never defined as anything.

I could talk about how bad the production is in terms of sound, visual, editing, directing, acting...but what is the point. Everything I have already mentioned would deter people from even the most polished production. The values it holds here only come to show that it was a big effort made too soon by a group of human beings that have no idea what they are doing.

Can't fault the effort but the result is terrible.

Warning: Spoilers
It's a shame as you can see some real effort and enthusiasm has gone into this, however it's all been for nothing.

So far the episodic release of the show has served only to make it feel disjointed, where as perhaps a single 20 minute pilot would've served better, there's certainly a lot of duff material that could have been left on the cutting room floor.

There in't really a good performance in the cast, I feel no connection to these characters and frankly don't like any of them, without reading the synopsis I wouldn't have been aware of the main romance between 'Becky' and 'Tails'. Really little is done to establish any sort of depth to any of the characters, it would be generous to call them 2- Dimensional. I feel it's unfair to solely blame the writing or acting in this instance as both are so poor. I can only imagine these are a group of friends who have offered to help rather than successful actors from a round of auditions.

The jokes seem to mostly be derived from the theory of crass = funny, which can be the case if there's any humour involved, in this case there isn't. The jokes, despite their adult nature, are so juvenile I struggle to find who they are aimed at. The script is devoid of wit.

There's no sense that this is a unique group of people, the premise of metal enthusiasts serves no purpose to the plot and gives the show a very dated feel.

While it's always good to write about things of personal relevance there has to be a connection to a wider audience.

I would like to commend the redeeming features of this show but, with such wooden acting, inane writing and cack-handed direction, I can find none.
