India’s National Film Development Corp (Nfdc) has unveiled the 18 projects selected for the Co-production Market at this year’s Film Bazaar, including new works from Geetu Mohandas, Mostofa S. Farooki [pictured] and Haobam Paban Kumar.
Mohandas, whose first feature Liar’s Dice screened at Sundance and won six international awards, is bringing her new project Insha’allah to Film Bazaar, with Jar Pictures attached as producer. Farooki, whose credits as director include Television and Ant Story, is producing fellow Bangladeshi director Abu Shahed Emon’s A Foolish Man.
Manipuri filmmaker Haobam Paban Kumar, whose debut Lady Of The Lake premieres in New Currents at Busan this week, is again working with Oli Pictures on Joseph’s Son.

Bollywood star and globally acclaimed actor, Irrfan Khan will play the lead role in an international film titled, No Bed of Roses, written and directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, one of the noteworthy filmmakers from Bangladesh. The bilingual (Bengali and English language) film, titled Doob in Bengali, is produced by Kolkata's Eskay Movies and Bangladesh's Jazz Multimedia. Irrfan Khan's production company Ik will be co-producing the film. This is his second venture as a producer after Ishaan Nair's Kaash. Apart from Khan, the main cast includes Bangladeshi actress Nusrat Imroz Tisha who starred in Farooki's, Third Person Singular Number (Bangladesh's entry to the 2011 Oscars) and Television (Bangladesh's entry to the 2014 Oscars), Parno Mitra (X: Past Is Present) and Rokeya Prachy (The Clay Bird, 2002, Director's Fortnight, Cannes). Nfdc Development award, earlier known as the Incredible India award, is given to the best project of co-production market. Farooki, known for films like Television and Ant Story, was earlier selected for the Asian Project Market of Busan International Film Festival for his project No Land’s Man.
Raam Reddy’s Thithi won the award in fiction category of Work-in-progress lab. Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla’s Proposition for a Revolution won the award in non-fiction category.
