British entertainment has lost a truly unique talent. From drag to dogs, gameshows to the gay scene, trailblazer Paul O’Grady was one of our very best. Millions of us who’ve savoured his effervescent screen presence over the past 35 years have been left heartbroken by the news that he has died aged 67. O’Grady’s versatile career as a comedian, TV presenter, radio DJ and theatre performer means that there are few Britons whose lives he hasn’t touched. It’s not hyperbole to suggest that he attained national treasure status.

As his drag queen alter ego Lily Savage, he was a roof-raising riot. With near the knuckle gags (“Me and my husband have an open marriage. I’m hopin’ he’ll f*** off...

Jansen Panettiere, who acted in Disney Channel movies growing up alongside his sister Hayden Panettiere, was found dead in his New York City apartment over the weekend. He was 28.
The cause of death is unknown at this time but foul play is not suspected.
Born on September 25, 1994, in Palisades, New York, Jansen’s first screen performance was a background role in an episode of Even Stevens on Disney Channel. He went on to do voiceover performances in animated movies and TV shows including Blue’s Clues, Ice Age: The Meltdown and The X’s.
Jansen appeared alongside Hayden twice, in the 2004 Disney Channel original movie Tiger Cruise and the 2012 film The Forger. He also voiced the younger version of the zebra in Racing Stripes, which starred Hayden in the lead role.
Jansen and Hayden apparently have continued to be close as their careers grew. As recently as January 24, he posted a black-and-white...

Editor’s note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series debuts and celebrates the scripts of films factoring in this year’s movie awards races.
For her debut feature, filmmaker Georgia Oakley returns to 1980s Britain as Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government has introduced Section 28, a clause of the Local Government Act that seeks to prohibit “the promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities across the United Kingdom.
At the time, protests were rife, but many gay women and men felt compelled to keep their sexuality a secret.
Blue Jean, written and directed by Oakley, follows Jean, a school gym teacher who keeps her sexuality a secret from her colleagues. The threat is immediate and real: if exposed, her love life could cost her her job. However, Jean finds little sympathy from her girlfriend, Viv. Out and proud, Viv is part of a cooperative of similarly assertive lesbian women. Viv regards...
