John Travolta is calling out the nature of the reports that his John Gotti biopic, in which he plays the notorious mobster, will no longer be released just 10 days before it was set to come out on Dec. 15.
Movie studio Lionsgate sold the film Gotti back to the production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis, according to multiple reports on Tuesday, thus scrapping its planned release later this month. On Wednesday, Travolta called the reports that his movie was abruptly pulled "grossly wrong."
“Unfortunately, the reports were speculation bordering on fake news,” Travolta tells Deadline. “Lionsgate was planning on a minimal release, and I did an investigation into people who might have the interest and financial wherewithal to better release it. [Producer] Ed [Walson] is a fan of mine and of the Gotti story and really wanted to see the movie. I invited his group, they saw it and bought it. That is the simple explanation for this."

On a sunny late August day in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, extras on Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s Amazon series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, are dressed in tweed and wool winter suits, overcoats and dresses, suitable for going holiday shopping in late ‘50s Midtown Manhattan.
It’s the next-to-last day of shooting on the series about a housewife who turns to standup comedy following an unexpected upheaval in her home life. The show has leased out an old bank and transformed it into the opulent cosmetics section of the B. Altman department store from that era. A downpour scuttled an outdoor scene from the night before, so there's a lot of scrambling to get the schedule back on track. But since the business of New York can't be disrupted, the extras mingle with the diners at the pizzeria next door, making for an odd mix of Manhattan's elegant past and Brooklyn's gentrified present.

Arrow‘s Thanksgiving-themed episode on Thursday was stuffed with dramatic developments — including the reveal of a Big Bad’s true beef and the return of a smiling face.
The holiday started off lovely enough for Oliver & Co., as he segued from a successful food drive to the unveiling of the (very quickly constructed) new police precinct. It was during the latter ceremony, though, where FBI Agent Watson showed up to arrest the mayor, in front of his son and the public, on charges related to his (alleged!) activities as the Green Arrow.

Season 19 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is proving to be emotionally challenging for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who has been put through the ringer in the first five episodes.
First, Benson’s parenting skills were called into question after NYPD’s Internal Affairs launched an investigation into the Svu lieutenant. That was quickly followed by the arrival of Sheila (Brooke Shields), the biological grandmother of Benson’s adopted son, Noah. Believing that the parents of Noah’s biological mother were dead, Benson was floored when Sheila showed up and tried to vacate the adoption.
While she navigates a tenuous relationship with Sheila and has doubts about her intentions, Benson still has to give her full attention to the Special Victims Unit. “It will get uncomfortable,” Shields told Et during a visit to the set about her character’s presence in Benson’s life, with Hargitay adding that “it's an amazing arc and a very powerful one. The rags-to-refinement tale of young council estate Eggsy, the spy’s apprentice, was one of 2014’s most charming blockbusters. Yes, even with the controversial anal sex joke at the end. If you’re over age 50, you likely recall the Billie Jean King-Bobby Riggs tennis match from 1973, a feminist landmark and time-capsule of male chauvinist history that attracted one of the biggest audiences ever for a sporting event at that time. Over 100 million worldwide watched the 29-year old Number 2 ranked women’s champion take on the 55-year old former men’s champ in a $100,000 tournament that’s now been dramatized in Battle Of The Sexes, a flawed but mostly entertaining look at a repressive time when women athletes weren’t taken seriously and ‘lesbian’ was a dirty word.
Loudmouth hustler and gambling addict Bobby Riggs (Steve Carrel), was a self-confessed ‘male chauvinist pig’ even though he lived off the family money of his second wife Priscilla (Elizabeth Shue). Riggs had been a tennis champ decades earlier and was still active on the senior circuit in the early ‘70s. He...

The actor stepped out in New York Wednesday looking completely unrecognizable for his role in the upcoming Netflix series Maniac, also starring Emma Stone.
With long braids and tattoos everywhere, the look for the show marks a drastic change from the Hill fans have come to expect on screen.
Maniac, based off the Norwegian series of the same name, follows Hill’s character, an inpatient at a mental institution, who lives out adventures in his dreams. The dark comedy is directed by True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga, and costars Stone as a fellow patient in the institution.

No one is having a better time in Matthew Vaughn’s “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” than Julianne Moore, which is saying something. The director’s first sequel (no, he didn’t direct “Kick-Ass 2,” yes, “X-Men: First Class” is its own franchise-starter) is as high energy and bonkers as anything he’s made yet. As the film’s primary baddie, nefarious drug kingpin Poppy, Moore gleefully zips her way through every wacky scene, bolstered by an inventive setting that speaks to Vaughn’s intense imagination and the scope of his off-kilter super-spy vision.
Yet, for all that crazy fun, “The Golden Circle” doesn’t go wild enough to break Vaughn’s well-set mold, instead fitting neatly inside his filmography alongside other action-heavy offerings. It’s fun, but it’s blockbuster overkill after an already-crowded summer season.

Hmmm, just a few more days until the last Summer holiday, so there’s still time for a vacation, or at least a vicarious one with a very funny duo. Here’s their third cinematic excursion together, so let’s just go ahead and call it a movie franchise. And a most welcome, entertaining one at that. As long as there are countries that cook, it could go on for a long, long time (if we’re lucky). Under the pretense of a newspaper writing assignment we first got to accompany Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as they traveled their native Britain, dashing from one splendid restaurant, while enjoying very plush accommodations at first class inns and hotels, in 2011’s The Trip. The two played heightened versions of themselves (much like Larry David in HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and the celeb guests on the much-missed “The Larry Saunders Show...

Stone's pretax income largely came from her role in La La Land, which grossed $445.3 million at the global box office, as well as earning her a Best Actress Oscar.
Forbes editor Natalie Robehmed told Et that the publication believes Stone "took a lower upfront pay in order to get more compensation on the back end. The movie went on to do phenomenally well."
Jennifer Aniston is the second highest-paid actress, earning $25.5 million. While some may be surprised to find Aniston at No. 2 on this year's list, Robehmed explained that the 48-year-old star "still makes millions from endorsements for Smart Water and Aveeno."

No subjective “best” list here, this one is based on stats. As the 21st century turns 16, we’ve got the 25 biggest-grossing domestic blockbusters to date.
Check the stunning list below, which is unlike any previous period in movie business history. (We’re using adjusted totals to account for changing ticket prices. Box Office Mojo’s top 200 all-time adjusted list is here.) Here’s what we learned by doing the numbers:
The 21st Century Has Delivered Many of the Biggest Hits in History
25 of the 100 all-time biggest-grossing films have come from the first 16 years of this century. 1984 to 2000, the era that perfected the modern blockbuster and mass release of movies, brought 17. So the 21st century has been an era of major hits.
But oddly, the first current-century films on the all-time-grossers list places #11: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” And “Avatar” is #14. (This is where adjusting becomes essential — unadjusted, the ten...

The conversation is changing. With each passing week, more and more female stars have shared their experiences with rampant Hollywood sexism, from horrifying stories about giving “blowjob eyes” at auditions to tales of pay inequality and pushing for more female-led stories. While the sheer scale of the stories is upsetting — it seems like every actress has their own tale to tell — that these stars feel comfortable speaking out on the subject is heartening, one step closer to an industry that doesn’t have this kind of discrimination seemingly baked into its everyday operations.
While there have certainly been misfires along the way — actress and director Elizabeth Banks was recently taken to task for (incorrectly) calling out Steven Spielberg for never directing films with female leads, and “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke compared sexism to racism in an ill-concieved statement to Rolling Stone — the recent uptick in discussion is proof that the,...

“The Amazing Spider-Man 3” will never see the light of day, which many consider a good thing. The first two films starring Andrew Garfield as everyone’s favorite web-slinger inspired a lukewarm reaction, while the just-released “Spider-Man: Homecoming” has earned much more positive notices. A new video looks back at what might have been in the third chapter of Marc Webb’s trilogy, including a resurrection subplot that sounds fairly out-there.

“Part of the discussion was that, possibly in ‘3,’ there was this idea at one point that Spider-Man would be able to take this formula and regenerate the people in his life that had died,” says Dennis Leary, who played Captain George Stacy, in the video. “So there was this discussion that Captain Stacy would come back even bigger in episode three.” Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) might have returned from the dead as well.

Emma Stone is playing tennis icon Billie Jean King in the upcoming Battle of the Sexes movie and she, King and Stone's co-star Andrea Riseborough spoke about gender equality and inclusion in Out magazine.
The film focuses on King's match with Bobby Riggs, the same year King fought for equal prize money for men and women at the U.S. Open. Stone talks about how equal pay is still a challenge for women now.

In an interview with Out Magazine, Oscar winner Emma Stone revealed that multiple male co-stars have taken lower salaries in order to match her own. “In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them,” she said.
“And that’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair. That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily—that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, “That’s what’s fair.” If my male co-star, who has a higher quote than me but believes we are equal, takes a pay cut so that I can match him, that changes my quote in the future and changes my life.”

Jimmy Kimmel has a word of advice for any teenagers out there looking for a prom date: Perhaps don’t limit your search to the City of Stars.
The late-night host on Wednesday mocked Jacob Staudenmaier, the 17-year-old junior from Phoenix, Ariz. who had the audacity to ask Oscar winner Emma Stone to his high school prom via an elaborate music video recreating “Another Day of Sun,” the opening number from La La Land. After the video went viral, Staudenmaier received a letter from Stone, currently in production on a film in London, who politely rejected his request but thanked him for thinking of her.

A Phoenix high school student has his eyes set on Emma Stone for his prom date and he’s using her own Oscar-nominated film to land her. With the help of friends, Jacob Staudenmaier went for a grand gesture, recreating the opening scene from La La Land to send the invite to the best actress winner.
Crafting his own version of “Another Day of Sun,” the 17-year-old danced and sang his way through his high school parking lot, trying to appeal to Stone with promises of Olive Garden and his “far-fetched” resemblance to Ryan Gosling.

It was always only a matter of time until modern Hollywood resigned itself to remaking anime. Which isn’t to suggest that the uniquely Japanese medium is somehow unworthy of being used as fodder for Western blockbusters — on the contrary, anime has provided some of the most progressive, adventurous, and visionary filmmaking of the last 30 years — but rather to acknowledge the palpable whiff of inevitability with which Paramount is releasing “Ghost in the Shell.”
