Considered highly innovative at the time, it was the first TV program to mix cartoons with live performance.
This was the first of a series of productions with a backdrop style supposedly taken from a Victorian child's paper theatre. All of the backdrops looked like line drawings. Each programme was supposedly written by the cast within a week. The episode "Rig O'Doom" set on an oil rig after Scotland had left the United Kingdom was given a British TV award. Some time later there was a series call "In the looking glass" with the same cast in a shorter format and not with the same time limit on writing.
