Daniel Ellsberg, a onetime advisor to Nixon Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara and Rand Corp. analyst who leaked the 7,000-word secret history of the Vietnam War known as the Pentagon Papers to the New York Times and Washington Post, has died. That, according to multiple reports. He was 92.
Ellsberg’s decision to provide top secret report, officially known as the Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force, and the newspapers’ decisions to publish it proved a turning point in the public’s attitude toward the war, President Richard Nixon and trust in the government.
It was also a landmark moment for a free press in America, as the resulting Supreme Court decision upheld the right of the Times and Post to publish the documents.

When the Frasier revival needed a new sidekick, star Kesley Grammer knew whom to call: the British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, with whom he shared the stage in a 2019 production of Man of La Manchaat the London Coliseum. In a new interview with the U.K. publication The Times (via Deadline), Grammer says he and Lyndhurst “fell in love” doing the musical. “I warned them in America,” he added. “I said, ‘Wait until this guy gets here. You’ll be doing a scene with him, and suddenly, you realize he’s just run off with it.’ He’s an extraordinary actor, a dear friend. And I am so pleased he’s part of it.” Lyndhurst, who starred in the long-running BBC comedy Only Fools and Horses…, joined the Frasier revival in January, taking the role of university professor Alan Cornwall, with whom Grammer’s psychiatrist character went to college. “British, boozy,...

Paul Simon says he has lost much of his hearing in his left ear, impacting his ability to continue performing his music live.
The singer-songwriter, one-half of the former music duo Simon & Garfunkel, opened up about his sudden hearing loss in a recent interview with the U.K.’s The Times. The Grammy winner said it happened while he was in the early days of writing the music for his new album, Seven Psalms.
“Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” he said. “So everything became more difficult.”
He shared that his immediate reaction to his new hearing condition was largely “frustration and annoyance.” It hadn’t reached the point of anger yet, he said, “because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.”
His hearing, however, has not come back, and it’s made the legendary...

New Delhi, May 21 (Ians) A day after ‘The Zone of Interest’, the Jonathan Glazer film based on the novel of the same by Martin Amis received a rapturous ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, the celebrated British writer passed on at the age of 73.
Famous for his caricatures of what he perceived as the absurdities of “late capitalist” Western society, Martin Amis succumbed to oesophagal cancer at his Florida home, reports BBC, quoting ‘The New York Times’.
Coming from literary nobility — his father was the famous novelist, Sir Kingsley ‘Lucky Jim’ Amis, and Elizabeth Jane Howard was his stepmother — Amis was hailed by ‘TheTimes’ as one of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945 and he’s best known for his novels Money (1984) and London Fields (1989), and for his memoir, ‘Experience’ (2000).
‘The Guardian’ has called Amis “an influential author of era-defining novels” and noted that he was “among the celebrated group of novelists,...
