RUBBERS is a graphic sex comedy from Singapore, of all places. It's not that it's a badly put-together film, because it has decent production values and strong values in terms of editing and direction that means it's a fast-paced tale that rarely slows down. Three separate stories are told during the running time, one about an old lady, one about a young woman, and one about a young guy. The intercutting between the stories is deft and the best thing about the story. Only one of the stories is likable, that of a young woman desperate to seduce a plumber; the one about the old lady is dull and the one about the guy with the stuck condom is merely offensive.
The problem with this film is the subject matter. All of the tales are linked by the subject of condoms. What this leads to is a sex comedy of the most puerile variety. If you thought American PIE was graphic then you haven't seen anything yet. The film rarely rises above the level of the gutter and although due to censorship laws there's no nudity, the depiction of sex and masturbation is explicit as is the language. The jokes that play out are the crudest ever and not the sort of thing I personally find funny.
