- When an icy spell is cast on Marian, the residents of Storybrooke place the blame on Elsa, unaware the mysterious woman who runs the town's ice cream parlor has the same powers as Elsa and is trying to frame her.
- Marian is getting a tour of Storybrooke with Robin Hood and Roland, and the Snow Queen serves up some ice cream and says that seeing a happy family like theirs really "warms [her] heart." She seems to spike Marian's ice cream with some suspicious sprinkles.
Emma questions Mr. Gold about how Elsa ended up inside Mr. Gold's urn. Elsa can't remember. Mr. Gold says his life has been "turned upside down" recently. He's lost a son, gained a wife and says he's turned over a new leaf. He invites Belle to use the dagger on him. She commands him to tell the truth, and he says the truth is just as he said. He wishes her the best finding Anna.
Back in Arendelle, Elsa is thinking about going out to look for Anna when a messenger brings word of an army led by Prince Hans heading for Arendelle. Kristoff wants to help her with the response, but Elsa insists he let her handle it.
Mary is holding her first "fireside chat" as mayor, trying to multitask by holding her baby during the meeting. Everyone wants to talk about the "ice wall" on the agenda. She says it's "nothing to worry about," but admits it is surrounding the entire town. They're all concerned about who made it. Suddenly, Marian faints and collapses to the floor.
Regina pops in on Henry at the diner and brings him some comic books. She starts to chat him up about who might have written his storybook, wondering why she was written as a villain. She wants to find the author and ask for a happy ending. Henry thinks it's a great idea. He says they just have to find the clues. They decide to call this, "Operation: Mongoose." Robin Hood comes in and tells Regina that something's happened to Marian.
Regina comes to the mayor's office and comments on Mary's choice of decor. Regina accuses Elsa of having put this curse on Marian, but Elsa insists she didn't do it. Emma backs her up. Robin Hood tries to give Marian a "true love's kiss" but it doesn't work. Emma heads out to figure things out.
Kristoff and Sven are out looking for Hans, and they come upon a campfire where Hans is being mocked by his older brothers. Hans is feeling confident about his future overtaking of the kingdom of Arendelle because he knows about an urn that has the power to trap people like Elsa, with magic. Kristoff comes back and tells Elsa about the urn. Kristoff asks for a few soldiers so he can find and destroy the urn. She says she can bring her.
Back in town, the citizens set out to find and stop Elsa, assuming she's the one who's freezing everything.
In Arendelle, Elsa and Kristoff walk through the woods and talk about their families. They come to a cliff and Kristoff throws down a rope so they can rappel down.
Back in town, Hook is trying to keep Elsa hidden around town, but she doesn't want to stay in hiding. But he says he's taking her toward "danger," and she's intrigued.
David and Emma look around in the woods for evidence of who might be responsible for the freezing. Emma comes upon a tent and out steps Will Scarlet, who takes off running until he's tackled by David. He says he used to be a merry man and saw the "strangest thing" during a power outage. All the ice cream in the ice cream shop was still frozen after hours without power.
Regina tells Robin Hood she might be able to try "something drastic" to save Marian.
Hook and Elsa come to Mr. Gold's shop. Hook offers his "silence," saying he knows the dagger Mr. Gold gave Belle is fake. Hook declares to Elsa that Mr. Gold has "agreed to help." Elsa hands Mr. Gold a lock of hair from Marian so he can determine who cast the freezing spell on her. He turns it back into snowflakes and blows them off to find the person who cast the spell.
Dr. Hopper comes across Mary struggling with her baby's stroller and urges her to let go a little. He realizes Mary doesn't want to miss a minute of her baby's life because she missed it all with Emma.
Will brings Emma and David to the ice cream shop and they break in. There's no cooling system working and when they go into the back of the shop, it's frozen. Will sneaks away with all the money in the cash register and David has to stop Emma from running after him. She's losing faith in her ability to catch anyone.
Hook and Elsa are following the snowflakes through the woods.
Back in Arendelle, Kristoff and Elsa find the urn in a cave, but when she picks it up she sees something written on it. She wants to know if the urn can explain why she has magic. Hans and some of his men show up. Some of them are subdued, but Hans winds up getting Kristoff at the end of his sword and insisting that Elsa hand over the urn.
Hook and Elsa find the Snow Queen in the woods and quickly hide. Elsa is curious, though, having never seen anyone who has her kind of powers.
In Arendelle, Elsa decides to hand over the urn despite Kristoff's insistence that she shouldn't. Hans takes the urn and spills out its contents, which trickle toward Elsa. She stands there waiting to be consumed by it, but the liquid turns away from Elsa and forms into the Snow Queen. She immediately freezes Hans and tells Elsa that no one as special as her deserves to be trapped in that urn.
In Storybrooke, Hook and Elsa start to leave, but the Snow Queen freezes Hook's foot to the ground. The Snow Queen says she and Elsa have a lot to talk about. The Snow Queen tells Elsa that Anna, like all normal people, grew to fear her and put her in the urn. The Snow Queen says she set up the town to turn on Elsa because she wanted to teach Elsa a lesson: That everyone eventually will turn on them, they're just waiting for a reason. She freezes some icicles on the trees above Hook and says that everyone in town will think Elsa is responsible when they find him. Suddenly, Emma and David show up. The Snow Queen knows Emma, but Emma doesn't know her. They put one another's magic to the test. Emma knocks the Snow Queen backward with a wave of her hands, and the Snow Queen tries to knock the icicles down onto Hook, but Emma pushes Hook and David aside to escape them. Once they all look up, the Snow Queen is gone.
Back in Arendelle, Elsa brings the Snow Queen back to her castle and the Snow Queen she is startled when she sees a portrait of Elsa's parents. The Snow Queen tells Elsa that she is her mother's sister, and Elsa tells the Snow Queen that her mother is lost at sea. She also mentions that Anna is now missing. The Snow Queen vows that they will find Anna together.
Back in Storybrooke, Emma is frustrated that the Snow Queen got away. Emma thinks the Snow Queen is about something bigger than Elsa.
Marian is completely frozen and Robin Hood admits there's a reason his kiss didn't work. He says he's in love with someone else. He apologizes for having dragged Regina into this. Regina reaches into Marian's chest and takes out her heart, which is still beating. She puts it into a small chest and says it will keep her alive until they find a cure for the curse.
Hook asks Emma why she keeps pulling away from him and she says she's lost everyone who's been close to her. She doesn't want to lose him, too. He tells her not to worry because the one thing he's good at is surviving. They kiss in the middle of the street.
In the woods, the Snow Queen runs into Mr. Gold, who tells her he's sorry things didn't work out the way she wanted. She says they will. Mr. Gold offers his help, but the Snow Queen tells him she'll come to him when she's ready to make a deal.
