Well… I may have gotten a little over-zealous with my predictions! I had just seen Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One and thought it was absolutely fantastic, couple that with the fact that it has been getting great reviews (including the 9/10 from our own Chris Bumbray), nearly completely sold out showings at my local theater and a solid A cinemascore from audiences, and I thought this one was going to hit higher in its opening weekend. Right now the 3-day for Dead Reckoning Part One is coming in around $53 million, making it the fourth highest 3-day in franchise history after Fallout (61.2 million), Rogue Nation ($55.5) and M:i-2 (57.8). It still has a chance to take down the 5-day record which currently sits with M:i-2 at $78.8 million, but Saturday numbers will have to hit harder for it to achieve that.

Last month, we learned that Lionsgate is funding a horror film based on the novel Creepers (pick up a copy Here) by First Blood author David Morrell. At the time, it was said that Skylan Brooks (The Darkest Minds) would be one of the film’s cast members – but Deadline reports that Brooks is no longer involved with the project. Taking over the role he was going to play is Shane Paul McGhie, who is best known for playing the role of Landon in After and After We Collided. (McGhie then passed the role over to Chance Perdomo for After We Fell.)

What kind of friend are you? We all fall into certain friendship archetypes, whether we’re the responsible “parent” of the group, the instigator, or the one that never responds in the group chat. Sometimes we fill these archetype roles to bring out the best in our friend groups, but more often than not these roles are set in stone during our youth, before we define ourselves, and coalesce into something toxic and decidedly unfriendly.

The “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” will officially be led by Amandla Stenberg.
The announcement came Friday, with the official “Star Wars” account tweeting out a picture of Stenberg. Going farther back in time than any live-action “Star Wars” title before it, “The Acolyte” is set a century before the events of “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.” The series promises to depict the galaxy at the peak of the era of the High Republic, when the Jedi were at their strongest and the Sith were believed to have been eradicated from the galaxy.
Stenberg was rumored for the role in a report from December 2021, but the news is now official.
“Russian Doll” co-creator Leslye Headland is showrunning the series, with Stenberg set to star (“The Hate U Give”). Headland is drawing at least in part from Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The High Republic” publishing effort. Announced in...

Amandla Stenberg is in talks to join the upcoming Disney Plus series “The Acolyte,” the live-action “Star Wars” series that hails from Leslye Headland.
Details on the character Stenberg would play are being kept under tight wraps, but an acolyte in the “Star Wars” universe has typically referred to a Sith who has just begun their training under an experienced Sith Lord. This, of course, was prior to Sith Lord Darth Bane instituting the Rule of Two, under which there are only ever two Sith in existence at a time — one master and one apprentice.

Following the giant success of The Twilight franchise, Young Adult novels were all the rage in Hollywood at the time. The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, The 5th Wave, The Host, and Darkest Minds are just some of the novels that were turned into feature films. However, the YA craze didn’t last for long and Allegiant is one of the prime reasons for that. Originally, the Divergent series was scheduled to have four films, with the final movie reportedly titled Ascendant, based on the latter half of Allegiant. The final film was scheduled to be released on March 24, 2017;

In Season 2 of Neflix’s “Love, Death & Robots,” the adult animated anthology from executive producers David Fincher and Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) continued its embrace of survival and immortality in strange dystopian environments. Disney/20th Century Studios’ New Mutants got an early jump on the weekend last night, grossing $750K in a pandemic marketplace where only 62% of all movie theaters are open.
Studios have often said that preview figures aren’t perfect indicators of the weekend box office. I beg to differ: It was more predictable during pre-pandemic times. Now, we don’t know what to expect. One of the reasons why Disney is leading with this movie as theaters reopen is because research shows that the 18-34 crowd is more open and eager about returning to cinemas. Atom Tickets’ polling indicates that 40% of moviegoers are comfortable returning to theaters immediately. A reminder why it’s hard to draw conclusions about how the 3-day will ultimately look is because hard-top theaters in California, New York, New Jersey, Arizona (partial), North Carolina, Michigan, Maryland, and New Mexico remain closed along with the metro areas of Seattle,...

“The Hate U Give” star Amandla Stenberg has joined the cast of the film adaptation of “Dear Evan Hansen” at Universal and features the music and lyrics from “La La Land” duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Stenberg will play the role of the high school senior Alana, which has been expanded and re-conceived from the original stage musical; it will now have Stenberg singing a new song that she will also write in collaboration with Pasek and Paul.

In “Archenemy,” Joe Manganiello plays Max Fist, who claims he’s a hero from another dimension who has somehow landed on Earth and been stripped of his powers. In other superhero movies, that might be the start of a rousing and upbeat redemption arc. In the hands of the producers of the gonzo art horror film “Mandy,” it’s something else entirely.
As the first trailer for the film makes clear, writer-director Adam Egypt Mortimer is using Max Fist to take a darker and grittier approach to the superhero genre.
Instead of treating him like a powerful champion, no one believes Max’s claims — except for a teenager named Hamster and his sister Indigo. The siblings convince Max to help them take out a local drug gang, where Max’s abilities are put to a violent and harrowing test.

Despite driving the lion’s share of overall 2019 box office revenue, Disney saw a big stock drop and faced questions over what it’s going to do with its newest acquisition, 20th Century Fox, after it reported a $170 million loss in its latest earnings call.
And as the assimilated studio’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” prepares to enter theaters, the film’s box office outlook shows that Fox will continue to remain in the red for Disney at least for the next few months.
With lukewarm reviews and poor audience tracking, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is projected for an opening of less than $10 million this weekend, making it the third out of six films released by Fox this year to open below that mark. And overall, Fox’s 2019 domestic gross to date — $259 million — is down 65% compared to this point in 2018.

Tim Miller and David Fincher’s adult, animated anthology series, “Love, Death & Robots,” has been renewed for a second season by Netflix, the streaming service said Monday.
“Kung Fu Panda 2” and “The Darkest Minds” filmmaker Jennifer Yuh Nelson has joined as supervising director for Season 2 — er, Volume 2, as Netflix puts it, and will oversee all new episodes. No release date or episode count has been set yet for the second volume in the series.
The 18-episode first season of “Love, Death & Robots,” with installments ranging from six to 17 minutes, launched in March to mostly positive reviews from critics. However, the show drew some backlash on social media when Netflix was accused of presenting users with episodes in a specific order based on their sexual identity — an accusation the streaming service firmly denied.

The most impressive thing about Simon Kinberg’s “Dark Phoenix,” the 12th movie in 20th Century Fox’s wildly inconsistent “X-Men” superhero franchise, is that it’s not the worst one. It’s rather embarrassingly scripted and acted out by a cast who, pretty much across the board, look like they’d rather be anywhere else, but at least it’s not quite as awful as “X-Men Apocalypse,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” or “X-Men: The Last Stand.”
Of course, “Dark Phoenix” is practically a remake of “The Last Stand”: The timeline for these X-Men movies got reset in “Days of Future Past,” not that it made the continuity any clearer — 29-year-old Nicholas Hoult plays a character who should by now should be pushing 50, but nobody told the makeup department — and they’re officially back in familiar territory. And they’re making the same old mistakes.

We’ve already been told that Kingsman: The Great Game will be a prequel story set in 1910 during World War I, so I was already preparing myself for a different kind of Kingsman movie. But, director Matthew Vaughn recently talked about the film and he explained that the movie might be so different that fans of the franchise who watch it might say, “What the hell has he gone and done?”.
While talking to the ReelBlend podcast, Vaughn explained:
“When we came up with Kingsman sitting in that pub with Mark Miller seven years ago, it was very much a thing of two fanboys getting drunk, lamenting about what's happened to spy movies. And then the more I'd gotten involved in it, the more I just felt … was I planning a universe? No, but a universe sort of [developed]. It's been like the Big Bang, that all these other ideas are coming.

According to a recent report from Deadline, Liam Neeson has been cast in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming Kingsman prequel film, Kingsman: The Great Game. The actor’s name was mentioned as if it was something that was already known, but it’s the first time his name has been associated with the film, so that’s cool! Neeson will make an awesome addition to the movie!
We don’t know who Neeson will be playing, but he will join the previously cast Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson (The Darkest Minds), which will reportedly take place in 1910. Then it was reported that Brad Pitt and Rachel Weisz were in talks as well. We don’t know who he’ll be playing, but he will join a great cast. We previously learned that Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson (The Darkest Minds) joined the film, which will reportedly take place in 1910. Then it was reported that Brad Pitt and Rachel Weisz were in talks as well. The movie will also include Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War), Game of Thrones star Charles Dance, Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter, Spider-Man), and Matthew Goode (Watchmen).

20th Century Fox has been in the news this past year not just for hits like “Deadpool 2” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but also because the storied studio is about to be absorbed by Disney as part of a $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox’s TV and film entertainment assets.
But apart from a few modest hits and indie division Fox Searchlight scoring four major awards contenders, 2018 wasn’t a stellar year for Fox’s film division. The studio fell to No. 5 in box office market share — 9.6 percent as of Monday — after holding the No. 3 or 4 slots for the past three years, according to BoxOfficeMojo.
“I wouldn’t categorize their performance as a disaster — I would call it middling,” Tuna Amobi, media analyst at Cfra Research, told TheWrap. “Some of that also had to do with the way the studio has been managed conservatively over the years — they have not traditionally taken...

We’ve got some new casting details regarding director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman prequel film, Kingsman: The Great Game.
We previously learned that Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson (The Darkest Minds) joined the film, which will reportedly take place in 1910. Then it was reported that Brad Pitt and Rachel Weisz were in talks to join the film.
Today, Collider is bringing word that Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War) and Game of Thrones star Charles Dance have also joined the cast. They are also reporting that Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter, Spider-Man) is in talks to join. Matthew Goode (Watchmen) is also being eyed for a role
Not much is known about the characters that these new actors will be playing. Ifans would “play a dangerous and manipulative Russian mystic, while Brühl and Dance’s roles are being kept under wraps.”

Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood” is turning out to be this year’s biggest blockbuster bomb, with a $14 million five-day opening against a budget of just under $100 million.
This year’s Thanksgiving weekend has provided the most lucrative box office ever. But even with all the record-breaking success, there have been some failures in 2018. Most of those bombs, like Paramount’s “Annihilation” and Fox’s “The Darkest Minds,” have had low-to-mid-level budgets that have reduced how much of a financial hit their studios have taken.
With a global launch of just $22.8 million, “Robin Hood” has had the worst start for any film this year with a budget of $90 million or higher. It’s another flop on top of several for Lionsgate, including the sci-fi film “Kin” ($9.9 million grossed against a $30 million budget), and the Kate McKinnon/Mila Kunis spy comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” ($75 million/$40 million budget). So far this year,...

2018 was a great year for the box office with plenty of record-breaking hits, but even a good year has its bombs. Here are ten of the most notable bombs this year, including one from the biggest blockbuster franchise of all-time.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story”– Budget: $250 million, Global gross: $392 million
Disney broke box office records left and right this year, but it also had the most high-profile bomb of the year with this “Star Wars” anthology film that told the origins of Han Solo. With lukewarm reviews and stories of a rocky, budget-inflated production hitting the press for months before release, “Solo” became the first “Star Wars” film ever to fail to gross $400 million worldwide. With “Episode IX” still a year away, Disney execs have said that they’re taking another look at how they handle future films in this hallowed series.
“London Fields” — Budget: $8 million, Global gross: $295,435

Here’s a quick question that should serve as a surreal gut-check for modern entertainment: How many episodes of “Queen America,” the latest serialized offering for Facebook’s 2 billion-plus users, are available now?
Figure it out? Did you have to quickly Google “Queen America Facebook” or scan Catherine Zeta-Jones’ IMDb page first? Odds are high outside research was required, given that three episodes of “Queen America” quietly dropped Monday on Facebook Watch, marking the latest attempt by the streaming giant to stand out in the market for streaming options.
Created by Meaghan Oppenheimer (co-writer on the under-appreciated 2015 Zac Efron DJ picture “We Are Your Friends”), “Queen America” is one of those half-hour shows billed as a “black comedy” but that’s really just a drama with a few caustic jokes. In the pilot, Zeta-Jones’ popular beauty pageant coach tears up an Australian contest judge, dropping belittling joke after belittling joke...
