Good show with annoying flaws
EPMD578 August 2020
The subject matter is excellent. People will always be interested in criminal cases, so no complaints there. The victim and their family are treated with respect, but there are flaws:

1. Laborious storytelling with far too much repetition 2. Annoying sound effects and background music 3. Hiding key parts of the footage to play gotcha with the audience

The third point bugged me the most and happened in the first episode. They showed security footage of a crime. It lasted about 60 seconds but no crime was apparent. Then they decided to show it again, while detectives told us how easy it is to overlook something. On the second viewing, they pointed out an important detail that everyone missed the first time. But this is the annoying part: They edited out the key part of the footage from what they initially showed us, so none of us had a chance to catch the key moment either.

Great stories but a bit repetitive
jacqui_75130 June 2018
I have only watched season 2 on Netflix and I love the stories chosen. They explain everything really well and use family and friends to talk about the victim.

However the downsides are that they play the footage over and over which is a bit excessive and the dialogue is very repetitive. The amount of time spent on telling us how great footage is and constantly referring to the security cameras is over the top. I found myself after a couple of episodes getting frustrated because they seem to state the obvious and repeat the same lines.

Accuracy
jonbreedon13 November 2015
This show does an amazing job at getting the actors to look like the people depicted in the show. The locations look authentic and so does the acting. It is also done in such a way to where it is not distasteful or disrespectful to the real victims. It keeps you guessing till the end who the killer is. It digs deep into the story line and provides proper background so viewers are able to follow easily while still being entertained. If you're a fan of real mysteries and re-enactments then this show is perfect for you. So sit back and enjoy the amazing hard work and show your respect to those who were lost in these episodes.

*whispers* I see evil people
Morgana-Massacre28 March 2020
Although obsessed with the ID channel, this is my favorite series on it. I think that's because you get to see the movements of the guilty and follow the investigation with real live video and not a story retold and acted out by actors in which they're retelling a series of events that may or may not happened. This series is almost as if we are there with the police, solving the case with them. It also shows us how surveillance cameras are a necessity and are saving lives. I was always one of those people who didn't want "big bother" watching my every move. After watching this show, I'm basically like "wait... I never do anything shady or illegal so what am I afraid of?" ... followed up by a "put surveillance cameras everywhere!" and cameras with far better image quality. Although it wouldn't be such a popular idea, make the cameras a socialist type program where we all pay into it much like we do with police, fire, military, schools, etc. This show really opened my eyes to the importance of surveillance videos and cameras are used to save lives, solve murders & all other forms of crimes.

One of my FAVORITE true crime shows
usedtobenormal4 January 2023
Some of the lower scored reviews confuse me. Quite a few of them talk about the background music/sounds being very annoying. I just watched a few episodes not even 2 hours ago and I cannot remember hearing background music. LOL.

Another peeve of some reviewers is the bad acting. I have yet to find a true crime show with good acting. LOL A lot of repeating scenes....yeah...definitely. But for me it's not nearly annoying enough for me to stop watching.

Everything considered this is still probably my top choice for true crime shows. 👍

The one reason I like this show so much is the actual REAL footage shown. It absolutely FACINATES me (and is soooo creepy!!) to see real footage. I don't remember exactly when I found this show, but from what I remember this is one of the first shows I had seen that included real footage. I was hooked and was so upset when I ran out of episodes. I am SOOOOO glad that new episodes are airing.

amazing and gutwrenching
ops-5253525 April 2019
Having seen some of the latest episodes, ive come to the conclusion that this is some of the best real crime documentary ive ever seen. its merely the connection to the victim you get through videosurveillance, and interwievs with the family and friends of the victims that really moves the gutter and overrims the tear cup of grief. also the way that police comments and tells their story, along with suspects interviews in or outside the interrogation room are extreme to watch.

to all that are left behind, losin a son, brother sister mum daughter, husband etc, remember we''ll grieve with you all for ever.

Best show from ID channel
bnkenobi-185607 February 2023
I think this is one of the best shows from the ID channel and only ID channel show that I watch. My problem isn't with the show but a lot of the victims. Don't get me wrong, I totally feel sorry for murder victims and their family and friends. I just notice that a lot of the victims put themselves in unfavorable situations. Young pretty girl working alone at a gas station convenience store on graveyard shift. Same kind of girl working late at Walmart, walking by herself to her truck that is parked far away. Woman hanging out at a bar late and making friends with walking home with the big, tatooed guy she just met who just got into a fight. One guy getting money out at an ATM at 11:30 at night, sitting there counting money and taking his time in a dark part of town. Guy who dresses flashy and keeps lots of cash in his boot and is not quiet about it. Do people not use common sense or just not being careful about putting themselves in an unfavorable situation especially as a young, single woman alone??

Started out great
mls41828 December 2021
I love seeing how CCTV can help solve crimes. The cops are very clever in piecing everything together.

The problem is with these shows, the they start having stories about victims who lead high risk lifestyles. Season 8 episode 6 is a good example. Its gross.

Great True Crime Show
gl_55926 March 2015
This Series Is The Perfect Mix of Actual Peoples Accounts,Dramatizations And Surveillance Footage. Every Episode Keeps You Interested And Makes You Wonder How Safe You Truly Are Going About Your Day. I Recommend This To Anybody Interested In Hearing of Real Life Solved Crimes.

The First Episode Aired Was The Disappearance of Kelsey Smith Which Was Actually Aired In 2015 I Am Not Sure Why It Is Listed As 2014. Every Mystery Is Different And With Little To Witnesses Police Depend On Surveillance Footage That Usually Goes Unwatched. I Am Not Sure How People Can Be Confused By Dramatizations And Actual Grainy Security Footage But The Actors Tend To Resemble The Victims Rather Well. If You Have The Discovery ID Channel Give This Chance You Will Not Be Disappointed.

A good crime show but way too much padding
AlienOscillator17 October 2021
See No Evil is a good concept for a show but it is poorly executed at the expense of the viewer. This show has about 15 maybe 20 minutes of content but the producers drag it out to 43 minutes by replaying and repeating parts of the show to the point of annoyance. You know the ploy, play part of the CCTV tape, go to break, play the same CCTV tape sequence after the break, tell the CCTV operator to zoom in, watch it again etc. It a cheap production trick to pad the show to get it to 43 minutes. If you feel cheated (and you should) you're not alone. Lots of productions are guilty of the same stunt and it's a sad commentary of the current state of shows.

Unnecessary Noise
vfwarriner28 May 2019
I usually enjoy ID's shows, especially when there is little outside narration, and the story is pieced together by actual witnesses and professionals who were present during or around the time the crime occurred. "See No Evil" has this going for it in spades, but there is WAY too much background noise/music - seemingly one eerie sound or song per scene - going on to the point of distraction. It's pretty ridiculous, and I wish they would fix it. I mean, seriously, during the episode I viewed tonight (5/27/19), one of the cops is trying to bring up old video footage (which, as makes sense, happens a LOT in this show), and the accompanying music makes it sound like he's about to open the box at the end of "Seven"! He, then, calls the victim's family member to tell them that they "got something," and the music sounds like a mish-mash of vaults slamming, knives being sharpened, records being played backwards, and....oh, I don't know, garbage disposals running amok? Just...no. It makes it unwatchable, for me, although, as always, the stories are important to tell and the rest of the production is very well done. Keep those and cut out the noise, ID, and you might get some viewers back.

cut the ambience...please!
phoenixbooksu21 July 2021
I really am enjoying the show, but the background music and ambience are very IRRITATING, which I believe are on purpose...and the shocks from it, over and over, are hard to handle for an entire show! HOWEVER...it's over the top in aggravating and many us (seniors) watching agree...tone it down and the show would be a winner. We like the stories but keeping us all on TOO INTENSE is irritating, and if we are on edge all the time, we tend to want to leave for less anxiety. We can all do without the 'slicing and dicing' knife sounds going on in the background, as well. Please just feed us the intensity of each episode without the sounds of slicing knives. Give us a break...we already have high BP...and we're OLD! Hearing those sounds is too disturbing. Keep the orchestra...CUT the knives! Thank you for even reading this!

Best series ever on tv
hughwatkin2 May 2023
Gripping viewing., if you have not seen this start watching now, you will not leave your chair until its finished, following the guilty in real time via cctv, its amazing how the killer is caught , and even more amazing that a killer thinks they can slip the net in this day and age with so much cctv around, , compulsive watch cant wait for season 11, 12, 13, 14 and so on., watch where your neighbours have there cameras pointed before doing anything dodgy lol, honestly though this is one of the best if not the best tv series iv ever viewed. Im sitting twiddling my thumbs waiting for a new season to emerge.

You're being watched!
thegrinch-922 March 2020
"See No Evil" is my favorite show on Discovery ID. When it first aired in February 2015, I was blown away. I was naïve and had NO idea how often we were on camera. (And since then, the number of cameras has significantly increased.) After watching every single episode to date, some of the "novelty" has worn off, but I still like it. When the killer is revealed, it is surprising to find out who it was and how it is usually someone close to the victim [friend, boyfriend, spouse, in-law or even child (!)]. When they show video from media coverage showing the victim's family pleading for their safe return, family members look so distraught. It is amazing how often one of them happens to be the killer! Anyway, I find it fascinating how investigators are able to piece things together and solve crimes by using various videotapes. Two drawbacks to the show is that it can be redundant, as in they often repeat the same information a few times within the same episode. Also, the show has a lot of commercials, but those can be avoided by recording the show and fast-forwarding through the ads. I always enjoy seeing the criminal busted in the end!

love the show but...
suzyham20 May 2022
I love watching this show and I'm very intrigued witrigged with forensics rendezvous and the process of catching criminals. However I feel the show makes the cops look so stupid! I just don't understand why police don't watch a video from beginning to end and watch the stuff that seems so obvious to us as lay people. I have a feeling in real life they actually did but they make them seem so stupid on this show.

Great show and very detailed production
doctormarshe29 January 2024
In full disclosure, I principled in one of the upcoming episodes yet to be aired. That being said this is not the first show I have worked on so I am able to separate myself from my work an provide an honest review. First let me say that See No Evil production team is incredibly detail-orientated. While the production does not carry a massive budget the show is put together very well and demonstrates extensive research of the cases.

True Crime will never die with viewers around the world. It is in our human DNA to want to know what is happening in various places and what caused the crimes to take place and what happened to the victims and the criminals.

See No Evil is so well crafted that the show taps into the viewer's minds almost as if the show knows what the viewer is thinking and delivers the much sought-after intel at just the right time.

The show does not get boring or predictable and leaves you sitting on your sofa trying to solve the crime that is unraveling before you.

As an actor on the show the script is the real life case files and I think I can speak for my colleagues as well when I testify that we feel the events that took place.

I will close this review with a thank you to all those who watch and enjoy the show.

Best of Similar Documentaries but Annoying Factors reduces the Score
andrewrye-0653513 June 2022
Like others, this is one of the better documentaries on crime.

I like that they show actual footage, interview friends and family and take you for the ride on the investigation.

I've just watched an episode from Season 5 and noticed something that seems to be in every show.

These are the reasons I didn't score higher.

The overly and unnecessary dramatic music to amp up the tension. It's just not necessary and has become annoying. I now watch with low sound and subtitles. The actors who don't resemble their real life counterparts. A large family member who was portrayed by a petite actor. This was shameful. A maroon car that changed colour and model when they set the scene up for the forensics. If you can't find the right props to accurately portray the scene then look harder or don't show it. Replaying CCTV footage over and over and over. Then in slow motion and detectives that see something that's clearly not shown like a passenger. I came to the conclusion that the production of the footage is intentionally grained to make it seem as if the Detectives have super powers. A dark car on a dark night was spotted in broad day light and the officer noticed the rusty wheel which you could not see in the CCTV footage because it was too grainy. The car (actual surveillance) as crystal clear but went grainy when they reshowed it in slow motion. I just don't believe that all Walmarts, Costcos and other stores all use old VHS tapes or low level CCTV, what would be the point when you can't make anything out? The narrator is a drama queen. As soon as he spies a CCTV camera, the music goes up and the old 'could we have a eye witness to this horrible crime?' gets trotted out. It's the whole reason for the programme! And then announcing a find that will 'dramatically change the direction of the investigation', or offer 'a twist that no one saw coming'. Then it doesn't.

On the whole it's a great idea, great concept and good story spoiled by being overly produced and under acted. A shame really. If it was presented better and offered as a true documentary with better actors then it really would blow the competition away.

It's a 6 for could have been if they hadn't been sucked into reality hell.

fake security video and recreations dull show impact
danbredy24 February 2015
Here we have an interesting concept for a show. A crime that is recreated largely through captured security video. It's quite fitting for our video age and a welcome departure from the usual ID channel offerings that attempt to present crimes that fall in some ridiculous forced categories like wives with knives or swamp murders. When it comes to recreations in true crime shows I tend towards less is more as the acting is typically bad and really adds less to the story than the testimonies of the victims and officials involved. I'm more a fan of shows like Dateline and 48 hours I guess. I also could have done without what appears to have been fake security video intermingled with the real video but thankfully those were kept to a minimum.

Okay crime show with some super annoying flaws
On_The_Mark31 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like being able to see the actual video, which is the hook of this show. One problem is we have to see the SAME video multiple times. It's annoying. Like when they come back from a commercial, we have to recap everything we've just seen for a minute. Another annoying thing all these shows do.

And because most of these crimes are literally solved in a day or two, they have to drag it out and make it seem like there was a much bigger investigation going on than there really was, when in reality, they've got video of the perp at a mini-market 6 hours after the crime was committed, they pretty much know who did the crime.

The actual people involved in the investigation speak directly into the camera, which is okay - it's like they're speaking to "you" rather than an interviewer off camera and lot of the people do a great job telling their story.

The absolute WORST part of this show is the actors playing the cops. Many are models and look nothing like the person they're playing. They ALL overact their part to the point of annoyance. They really think this is a CSI episode and their overacting sticks out like a sore thumb. Some play it like they're Dirty Harry, it's painful to watch. We have to get tons and tons of shots of the actor looking at a monitor nodding. Over. And over. And over. They stay "stop, rewind" about seven times. The whole time the actual cop is narrating what's going as well as the narrator, why do we need 50 shots of the bad actors playing the cops "looking intently at the screen, nodding" and repeating "stop, wait, rewind" over and over. This makes the show really cringey.

Another terrible part is the "interrogation recreations" video. A lot of the time the perp is being interrogated but you realize there's really bad acting going on and then you realize it's not real. It's just the "actors" doing an interrogation. It's done with grainy video to make you think it's real but if you do not see "actual interrogation video" in the top left, it's just the bad actors and the show attempting to pass it off as actual video. It's dishonest.

I mean in the video, you the viewer can see the killer - but it takes three passes of this video before the bad actor says "wait, stop, rewind" and then see the shot the viewer figured out already. It's just painful to watch and brings down what would otherwise be a great show.

They recite their lines with more of the overacting and this is why none of these people get real acting gigs. It's painful to watch.

Honestly, I don't think these types of shows need "reenactments" but it's for the dumb people who don't want to see someone talking or photos or just video - they need to have enhancements to understand what happened. And that's too bad because this would definitely be a tighter 30 minute show without the bad acting. Just show us the actual people involved talking, along with the narrator and the video, 30 minutes, this would be one of the best crime shows existing. But nope, they feel the need of bad reenactments with bad actors somehow enhances the viewing. It doesn't.

Fake videos misleading
ericfontenot-196512 January 2021
I always thought A lot of the video footage looks fake but wasn't completely sure until the show titled "Beths last party". they tell you they have spotted Beths Dodge truck on security camera driven but two suspects but it's clearly a GMC, so how can you believe what else is true. Cheesy
