Convicting documentary
restoration-125732 May 2023
Non-christians and some Christians may find this documentary appalling. I admit that my first reaction was anger, but that, if you go beneath the surface, was just conviction. It exposes how giving your heart and body away while dating is NOT a good thing. I'm a Christian by the way. The documentary exposes you to the desire to protect your heart and your own purity. Purity isn't taken seriously today, and most people see it as a bad thing. Today, most people give away their heart's and their body's very easily. Which is one of the reasons why you may be convicted or feel angry while watching this. This documentary proposes a path to marriage that is no where close to the norm for 2023. The family in the documentary is a very conservative family. What I mean by this is that many conservative, Christian families may find this documentary uncomfortable. However, regardless of your views on dating or religion, this documentary shows you practically what courting can look like and the benefits to it. I don't fully agree with everything in the documentary, but I am concerned for my future daughter. I am concerned that she will give her body and her heart away, to multiple guys, before she even gets to her future husband. Courting can save you from the harms of traditional dating.

This is Sad
Bluechinaspecial13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I grew up evangelical, I married during the height of Joshua Harris' books, and I participated in (endured) more than a decade of SAHM, homeschooling, "full quiver" mania. By the grace of God, I am still married, and both spouse and I have (gratefully) distanced from the subculture that enabled this documentary's sad spectacle. So, I COMPLETELY understand all of this. I lived it. I know it by heart.

This movie is sad. The family that is using the woman that is the main subject of this documentary are not only creepy, but abusive. It is a crying shame that no one, including her own family, were invested enough to help Kelly escape. She is now 40, still single, and still under Ron and fam's thumb. Insane.

A must-see slow-motion religious trainwreck
El Dangeroso27 March 2024
This mind-blowing documentary follows a 33-year-old virgin named Kelly who allows a devout Christian family to oversee her dating life. When a similarly devout Christian guy comes around, it seems Kelly may have finally found her husband-to-be. But a theological disagreement sends everything spiraling out of control.

Kelly seems like a sweet girl, but secular audiences may find themselves screaming at the screen as she essentially dooms herself to solitude.

This is a fascinating look into a hyper-religious subculture that leaves women devoid of agency. In the most terrifying scenes, the family's young daughters mirror the instruction they've been given, vowing that they must save their first kiss for their husband on their wedding day and that the groom should definitely "wear a Confederate uniform."

This is a haunting look at the dead ends some people pursue in the name of religion. As Kelly's mom watches hopelessly, her daughter throws away her future in the name of God.

Seek out this film and give it a watch. I would love a follow-up film to learn where all these people are now.
