Note: This story contains spoilers from the “9-1-1” Season 7 premiere.
The Season 7 premiere of “9-1-1” opened in a therapist’s office. In hushed tones, LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) explained that she’s scared to go on a cruise with her husband for a very “9-1-1” reason: She was traumatized as a child by the 1972 ABC disaster thriller “The Poseidon Adventure.” As the flashback unfolds, scenes from the Irwin Allen disaster movie flash on screen along with a vintage ABC logo.
It’s a silly, so-on-the-nose-it’s-brilliant moment that’s perfect for one of television’s wildest shows. “9-1-1” is back, and it’s found a new home on ABC.
“That was so important to me,” series creator, writer and executive producer Tim Minear told TheWrap about the film nod. Dubbed the “Master of Disaster,” Allen defined the disaster film genre through movies such as “The Towering Inferno” and “The Swarm.

Netflix has a lot of content on its virtual shelves, but it’s missing something so huge that it’s almost shocking.

Netflix announced today that Carlton Cuse and Zoe Robyn will team up for the new show, which already has its first star attached.

Justina Machado is the first person to join the cast as a series regular.
This isn’t Netflix’s first foray into the procedural space, although their procedurals tend to have season-long arcs.
The Lincoln Lawyer, The Diplomat, and The Night Agent all have touches of procedural dramas in them, even if they don’t focus on episodes of the week.
Whether Pulse falls more in line with what we know as procedural content or not remains to be seen.

This Halloween season, Bloody Disgusting and Screambox are bringing Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls to theaters, a gateway horror film that wears its ’80s/’90s influences on its sleeves. Those influences extend to music, and we’ve got a treat for you this afternoon with a brand new clip channeling Meatloaf’s hit song “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)”… in the form of a hilarious dream sequence from the film.

Tell us how you really feel about your time on The West Wing, Rob Lowe.
Lowe played deputy communications director Sam Seaborn for the first four seasons of the NBC political drama. But he surprisingly left after Season 4, even though the show was a smash hit having won four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series Emmys during that stretch.
At the time, Lowe’s exit was crafted as a professional decision based on the character having less to do. But there apparently may have been more to it.

It was only July when Abigail Klein first entered the Days of Our Lives universe as Stephanie Johnson on Beyond Salem, the NBC soap’s companion series on Peacock. Last week, she made her debut on the “mothership” series and is ready to dig into her role as the daughter of supercouple Steve and Kayla (Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans). TV Insider sat down with Klein to chat about her character, how she got the part, what she learned by working with Marcia Gay Harden on Code Black, and more. How did your joining Days as Stephanie come about? Abigail Klein: I auditioned back in December 2021 for a different character. I sent in a self-tape, and after the holidays, I got a call from my agent that I had a chemistry read. [Later] I got the call that I’d booked Days but…surprise! My agent said, “It’s a...

Starz has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming historical drama “The Serpent Queen” starring Samantha Morton as Catherine de Medici. The wicked new drama series will premiere on Sunday, September 11th.
A historical drama with an edge, “The Serpent Queen” puts a contemporary spin on conventional storytelling to tell the tale of Catherine de Medici’s (Morton) rise to power. In the series premiere, “Medici Bitch,” Catherine’s tale unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and imparts the lessons she’s learned to her new servant confident, Rahima. Darren Star has been telling tales about people thrown out of their comfort zone masked as rom-coms for years, and Uncoupled follows the same framework as prior hits like Younger and Emily in Paris.
The new comedy, premiering Friday, July 29 on Netflix, has an excellent cast and some funny one-liners, but it is very predictable.
Neil Patrick Harris plays Michael, a Manhattanite whose world implodes when his boyfriend of 17 years moves out of their apartment, determined for a new start that doesn't involve him.
It's tricky subject matter to handle, but Michael's journey is infused with humor and awkward moments as he tries to get over the breakup and return to the dating scene as a 40-year-old with no idea how much it's changed.
On Younger, Liza is a fish out of water as she plays a forty-something trying to pass as a twenty-something. On Emily in Paris, Emily is...

CBS is changing focus.
After brutally slaying a good portion of their comedy lineup and Magnum Pi, the network announced three drama pickups.
They've picked up none of the comedies they had under consideration.
The best news of the day by a long margin is that CBS formally picked up Fire Country (formerly known as Cal Fire) from CBS Studios.
This series has been exciting our readers since it was first announced, and we couldn't agree more. This one comes from Seal Team's Max Thieriot, who co-wrote the story and serves as an executive producer.
It's co-written by executive producers Tony Phelan & Joan Rater. Other EPs include James Strong (pilot only), David Grae, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed (Jerry Bruckheimer Television)
The official logline is: Seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence, young convict Bode Donovan joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown,...

Exclusive: There is a major casting change on CBS’ untitled Mother & Son Legal Drama Pilot. Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden is in negotiations to play the female lead opposite Skylar Astin. She will replace fellow Oscar winner Geena Davis, who was originally cast in the pilot but is no longer part of the project.
I hear the pilot had a table read at the top of last week and had filmed for a couple of days when Davis departed earlier this week. Production has been paused for a few days until a new female lead is locked in.
This would mark Harden’s return to CBS where she headlined medical drama Code Black and also had her first major series role in The Education of Max Bickford. As for recastings, they are unfortunate but common and part of the pilot process.
The untitled mother-son drama follows Todd (Astin), a talented but directionless P.

Exclusive: Rosario Dawson and Lana Parrilla are boarding the upcoming SXSW Linda Goldstein Knowlton directed documentary Split At The Root, as EPs.
The pic is schedule to play in the Austin, TX festival’s Documentary Spotlight section.
Split at the Root follows the emotional journey of mothers separated from their children at the U.S. border and the grassroots initiative that, against all odds, reunites those families. When a Guatemalan mother seeking asylum was separated from her kids under the Zero Tolerance Policy, a Facebook post by a mom in Queens coalesced into a movement as thousands of like-minded women across the U.S. refused to stand by quietly. Immigrant Families Together was born – a rapid response group committed to doing what the government couldn’t – or wouldn’t do: reunite parents with their children separated by the Zero Tolerance Policy.
