The Slasher That Was Slashed
A Tale of Two Sequels Part 2 (2015)
*** (out of 4)
The second part of this two-part documentary takes a look at SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3 and the various issues that happened before, during and after the production. Director Michael A. Simpson is joined by cinematographer Bill Mills, editor John David Allen, make-up artist Bill Johnson and cast members Mark Oliver, Kim Wall, Daryl Wilcher and Sandra Dorsey. I'd say that this second part is slightly better than the first simply because Shout Factory! managed to find some of the cast members for interviews. The most interesting stuff deals with the pre-production as we're told the screenplay was being written as the second film was shooting. From here we learn that there was only a week between the two films and it was clear that people were tired on the third film in the series. We also get some good details about the film getting a X-rating from the MPAA and we see various clips from the workprint of what was edited out. Fans of SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3 are really going to enjoy hearing these stories, although, obviously, it's too bad that Pamela Springsteen wasn't willing to be interviewed.
