Good Documentary on Someone Who Should Be Better Known

Spider Stravinsky - The Cinema Sounds of Ronald Stein (2015)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Nice 11 minute documentary takes a look at the work of Ronald Stein, a man who came to Hollywood and made a good name for himself working in some low-budget horror movies. Historian and Stein expert Ted Newsom talks about the early work of Stein and we also get interviews with Stein's widow as well as Joe Dante and Jack Hill. Several of Stein's scores are discussed here including Dante saying his favorite was form Roger Corman's THE TEROR but the main focus is for the SPIDER BABY score. Hills tells some great stories about the score and Newsom shares a great deal of knowledge on the subject. This bonus featurette can be found on the SPIDER BABY release but fans of classic horror films will certainly want to check this out since Stein had his name on a great number of known cult films. There's a good deal of information given on the man and there's no doubt that he deserved a special feature dedicated to his work.
