Aracely was married at 11 to a 34-year-old man. She bore him a son when she was 14. Nearly one-third of all girls in Guatemala will be married before they reach their 18th birthday. In fact, it's legal there for a girl to marry as young as 14. Though many, like Aracely, are married far younger than that. The result: many girls halt their education while still in elementary school, marry men far older than themselves and become mothers before they are physically and emotionally ready.
