Where art and music cross over
jimlewisjr30 March 2020
This is an interesting film. It is a sci-fi film and art film all blended into a story out of today's headlines. Like most art films it is open to interpretation. To me, it says we all should be concerned about the possible evil of altered foods and vaping. The story wrapped around several live music performances like a video music album. The music is good and bit edgy as it emphasizes this virtual reality.

The user reviews were made by zombies.
mijuelborga16 April 2020
Was waiting all throughout for something good to happen. The only redeeming quality of the film is the music, but that's about it. The dialogue was hard to hear and was recorded awfully. There is nothing artistic or interesting about what happened in the film.

Mind-expanding and viscerally entertaining
JCanni688 April 2020
Hard to categorize, this film is a genre-bender that is a feature-length music video, an anti-establishment doc, a zombie flick, and a drug-induced trip through pandora's box. The film is viscerally fascinating, and keeps your senses enthralled, all while challenging social norms and promoting higher thinking. While the acting is inconsistent and some of the creative/technical choices questionable, the overall experience is unique, mind-expanding, entertaining and fulfilling.

The Anti-Musical
JGReviews22 March 2020
I was hooked when I saw the poster for Ximbi Xombix that said it was "The Anti-Musical for Altered Souls." Awesome. Now this movie might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for the right viewers (and myself) this is amazing. It's one of those movies where you can tell the filmmakers are really going for it, aren't trying to please everyone, and end up creating something truly different. Ximbi Xombix is a zombie movie and possesses a unique blend of voodoo, reggae K-pop, and VR that I don't think anyone has ever seen before. Check out the trailer. If you're having a hard time finding something original then give this a watch.

Completely and Uniquely Its Own Thing
TheAll-SeeingI24 March 2020
David Kim's "Ximbi XombiX" is many typically disparate things at once, mixing elements of fantasy, comedy, and music film genres into its technicolor and dystopian blender. Against all odds and largely in defiance of explanation, they coalesce into a film that's paradoxically great and completely its own, and one that's wholly unshackled from any obligations to convention.

Shot in South Korea, "Ximbi XombiX" presents to the American consumer an Alice in Wonderland-esque, acid trip reality painted with attractively outlandish and unfamiliar colors and cultural undertones. This is a world where Soylent Green-style, scientifically overhauled food is fed to its zombified masses. And as is the case with most societies that have lost track of humanity's true plot, art is either a constantly blaring, vapid magnifier of those distortions, or the underbelly's infrequently-aired pushback against them. Ricco (embodied by Kim himself) eschews the banal trappings of his own affluence, swimming against the mainstream's currents most grotesquely exemplified by its popular music. As mastermind of "K-hop" band Sheeppsyche, he's steadfast against pop star Jo Bin (Claudia Pak) joining his counterculturist insurgency, but we soon pay witness to the pitfalls noble artists can fall into when intoxicated by the possibility their art might somehow be surfaced to a huge audience.

"Ximbi XombiX" is hardly a film for everyone: Kim directs his actors to present with a knowing, over-the-top artifice specifically reflective of perceived societal dehumanization, and the movie's structure may be too wildly ramshackle for conventional consumers. Yet for those drawn to social satire tinged with dark comedy, "Ximbi XombiX" is likely to elicit true admiration for its unrestrained ambition and uniquely colorful footprint. - (Was this review of use to you? You've never seen anything like it !
WatcherOfTheSkies77724 March 2020
"Ximbi XombiX" is a indie movie like no other. It's a bold dystopian social satire but it's also bonkers and fun. There is a lot to unwrap and in both style and substance and It's ambition is wild and unrestrained. Worth a watch !

The Most Unique Zombie Movie You've Ever Seen
turrou-66-90704825 March 2020
Zombie movies are kind of like those statues you see in certain cities where they are all the same, but different artists decorate them in a way that reflects their artistic mind. You have straight forward zombie (The Walking Dead), comedic zombie (Sean of the Dead) and cinematic zombie (World War Z) to name a few. Enter Ximbi XombiX. As the title suggests, it's unlike any zombie movie you've seen. The K-Pop, Vudu, Virtual Reality zombie movie. Indie film is the only medium that could take a stab at something like this, and these filmmakers did a fine job. It's risky, innovative, and ultimately a successful foray into the zombie genre. Like zombie movies? You have to see this one. There's nothing else like it.

Zombies, comedy and music... oh my!
directortim20128 April 2020
This is one of the most wholly original films I have ever seen. It's the most incredibly interesting blend of genres and styles you're going to view. Funny, artful, musical, intelligent. And weirdly timely in a pandemic. The film is made with just great skill and panache. And once you see it, you'll never quite forget it!

Unique indie film.
harriscalvin-125 March 2020
Ximbi XombiX is a unique indie film. Director David Kim did a good job with his assembled cast & crew. The combination of using music, zombies, and a fresh directorial style give the viewer a unique overall experience. All of the actors did well. The music & editing were on point.

Pushing the Medium Itself!
bloatedcat31 March 2020
A film that utilizes so many new techniques it can only be referred to as ground-breaking. Footage shot for VR and used for artistic sequences in this wild mash-up of a film is truly mesmerizing. The end credits alone merit great praise and attention. Visual and narrative risk-taking pay off big making the film something worthy of multiple viewings and some deeper analysis. There is so much food for thought and spectacle that your mind finds its way into a trance that helps you reflect on the zombie metaphors of the film. Fun music and a story-line about selling out make the film enjoyable on many levels. If you want Hollywood, watch a super hero movie, if you want to feel indie Brooklyn, pull up a chair and strap in... this film will take you for a WILD RIDE!

WTF
gregwolk3 April 2020
Do you avoid the derivative and seek out originality? If so, Ximbi XombiX is right up your alley. It's a hodgepodge of styles, with a storyline that is unbelievable -- but we don't care... we want to believe it! It's been a long time since I watched a film and couldn't guess where it was going. That was quite freeing. Watch without preconception and enjoy the journey! Sounds like a "taste the rainbow" commercial, and that's not far from the truth.

This is such a good film! Oh my gosh!! It is one crazy, wild ride of a film!! Writer/Director, David Kim, has put together one terrific film. As Director, he's done a really great job of telling the story while maintaining a good pace. I love the actors too. I thought they all did a wonderful job. So this one gets a thumbs up from me!!

A Film for Art Lovers!
tlg31728 March 2020
Ximbi XombiX is a wild ride through art as it combines traditional film, VR, music, and so much more into a fantastic work. If this film was hanging in a gallery, on it's info card it would be listed as multi-media. As a non-traditionalist, I loved how the film took me on a journey through the art cosmos. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't some Warhol film that leaves you guessing if there's a story or point. Without giving too much away, the film tells the story of a band and their music... or to reference the aforementioned, the story of a band and their ART. Beyond enjoying the ride, the music for this film was AWESOME. Some of the songs even had a sort of a Sublime vibe. Totally a film worth checking out if you love the arts.

Original and Mind Bending
I'm not sure how to accurately describe Ximbi XombiX because it really must be seen to be believed, and seen it should absolutely be!! This film is a mind bending odyssey into a universe like nothing I've seen before. Artistic and simultaneously cinematic it's a zombie musical about a band and their art...and then some. For any adventurous cinephile, this movie really pulls off something truly original and breaks every mold. Worth it. Highly Recommend!!

Hard to describe this one... but boy is it fun!
robertjuster3 April 2020
This movie is a lot (in a very fun way).

It's not a musical, but it's a musical. It's definitely a zombie movie, but not like one you've ever seen. It's funny, dark and weird in all of the very best ways. Even if you're not into zombie k-pop reggae comedy indie thrillers, it's still definitely worth watching!

Stylish and Totally Unique
mentalrev16 April 2020
Not really sure how to describe this film, you just kinda need to watch it for yourself. It's like an acid trip with a groovy soundtrack, disjointed narrative and funky visuals. This is the kind of indie film I enjoy because it's totally its own, not a cheap knock off or a recycled story line.

What's also unique about the film is that after you watch it once it plays great as background while doing other things because of the music and the stylish nature. Check it out for yourself.

Lynchian look at the zombie music scene
masaroffilm15 May 2020
A creative, inventive, strange and unique tale. With arresting visuals, a lot of music, and a strangeness to whole affair that can best be described as Lynchian.

Entertaining and Out-There
wjaywill20 April 2020
It is really hard to put my thoughts on this film into words. It is definitely out there, but I found it extremely entertaining. I originally thought I wasn't going to be into another zombie movie but this one takes a seriously fresh direction. Plus the music great! Overall, a truly fun ride.

This film is unlike anything I have ever watched. It is very entertaining and even the way it was executed fascinated me. I feel as if this could be a new style of film with great and creative shots throughout. This film is a mixture of so many things and there will be something to like for every person watching. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! Creative, different, unique, entertaining, fascinating... there are so many words that can describe this film.

A Zombie Musical...Hell Yeah!
angelina5419 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit that I did not know what expect when I first began watching this film. That feeling stayed with me throughout the musical numbers, zombie scenes, and artistry. There is truly nothing like it, although you can see its influences (and all very brilliant influences). Kick back and enjoy this ride.

Weird in a good way!
andrewtschroeder15 April 2020
This is a real experimental-type underground rock n'roll art film. There are zombies, but it's not your average old zombie movie. Lots of song/music video sections with interesting visuals mixed with the story of a group of musicians. It's weird in a good way and proud of it!

sui generis
christina-0688713 April 2020
"Unique" doesn't quite do this film justice. There is a solitary vision at work. The cinematography, editing and color deserve a shout out, solid work. But the original music is most certainly in a class by itself. The original song at about 47 min. in is oddly captivating. Wondering if there is a soundtrack?
