English version of "Królewski rubin", adapted by
Anne Wood of the production company FilmFair, consists of two separate ~5 minute episodes titled "The Party" (as episode 12) and "Hobgoblin Arrives at the Party" (as episode 13). They were originally broadcast in the UK in 1983 on Central Independent Television, as part of its "Watch It!" strand of children's programming.
Episode "The Party":
- The first half of the UK episode basically includes the ending sequence of the original episode "Torebka Mamusi" (#9), where the Moomin family is preparing the garden party. It's also showing the actual party in the evening with fireworks, drinks and dancing.
- The second half of the UK episode is taken from the original episode "Królewski rubin" (#10). The garden party continues during the night and Thingumy and Bob decides to surprise everyone by revealing the red ruby from the suitcase. In the UK episode the original order is reversed and the Hobgoblin with his panther is then introduced, searching his red ruby at the Moon's surface.
- Missing from the UK version is the dreamy sequence right after Thingumy and Bob reveal the red ruby at the party, where everyone could see what they wanted to see in the ruby: Moomintroll sees his best friend Snufkin, Moominmamma sees Moomintroll with a bouquet of flowers, squirrel sees a larder filled to the brim, one animal sees the beautiful house on its own lake, and Moominpappa sees himself sailing to the sea.
Episode "Hobgoblin Arrives at the Party":
- The UK episode opens with the sequence where the Hobgoblin rides from the Moon to Earth at the back of his panther. Some shots here and there are missing or rearranged during the sequence when the Hobgoblin visits the party. The dance and the fireworks sequence near the end of the episode is also shorter in the UK version.
