English version of "Zimowi goscie", adapted by
Anne Wood of the production company FilmFair, was shortened and re-edited to a ~5 minute episode titled "Ancestor". It was originally broadcast in the UK in 1983 (as episode 27) on Central Independent Television, as part of its "Watch It!" strand of children's programming. Missing from the UK episode:
- The first two opening shots of the snowy Moominvalley; the crows flying away from the bridge; the scene where Too-Ticky is coming from the bathing hut to get some snow; Moomintroll watching the hut from the door; Too-Ticky coming to close the cupboard doors and seeing Moomintroll; the scene where Too-Ticky and Moomintroll are talking, and the invisible mouse bringing a tobacco pipe for Too-Ticky (who's sitting next to a stove).
- Moomintroll climbing down the attic stairs; a panning shot of the paintings depicting the Moomin family, Moomintroll closing the photo album and going to the mirror; the cupboard troll (with Moomintroll) being scared of the painting of Fillyjonk.
- After the shot of the rising sun, the rest of the UK episode is taken from the opening of the original episode "Oczekiwanie" (#21): Moomintroll is going through some drawings and pictures, and placing them on the wall next his sleeping parents (some shots of the original version are still missing from the UK version).
- Missing from the UK episode "Ancestor" is the second part of the original episode "Zimowi goscie": While Moomintroll is enjoying the sun, Little My comes to inform that she has invited other winter inhabitants to the Moominhouse. Soon everyone are eating jam and eventually fall asleep.
