English version of "Wiosenna kanonada", adapted by
Anne Wood of the production company FilmFair, consists of two separate ~5 minute episodes titled "Return of the Sun" (as episode 32) and "The Great Thaw" (as episode 33). They were originally broadcast in the UK in 1983 on Central Independent Television, as part of its "Watch It!" strand of children's programming.
Notes from the UK episode "Return of the Sun":
- The first half of the UK episode includes the ending sequence of the original episode "Oczekiwanie" (#21), starting from the scene where Moomintroll is searching ribbons from the cupboards.
- The second half of the UK episode is taken from the original episode "Wiosenna kanonada" (#25). It opens with the montage of the Moominvalley where spring is finally arriving and shows Moomintroll and Too-ticky on the bridge. The UK episode ends with the scene where Moomintroll watches the flight of the geese at the stairs of the bathing hut.
- Notable soundtrack cue in the UK version by composers Steve Shill and Graeme Miller include a two-minute flute theme starting from the "nature montage" roughly in the middle of the episode.
Missing from the UK epiosode "The Great Thaw":
- The end of the scene with Too-ticky spring cleaning the bathing hut and Moomintroll leaving.
- After Moomintroll opens the window from Moominhouse, a close-up of a covered chandelier.
- Moomintroll coming to the shore when the ice breaks (Little My skating on the background); a close-up of the waves and a wide shot of Too-Ticky on the doorway of the bathing hut.
- A wide shot of the Moominhouse; after Moomintroll falls asleep, missing is the original ending where Moominmamma starts cleaning the house by removing the covers from the furnitures and looking out the window how the nature changes. She also sweeps the floor and adjusts the clock. Little My and Too-Ticky also arrive and have a conversation with Moominmamma outside the Moominhouse (some close-ups include a bird and a crocus, and the episode ends with the shot of the ocean with waves and seagulls).
