This one had me guessing!

Very unusual & complex episode. While viewing many of the previous Brokenwood Mysteries it had been a challenge but not an impossible task of picking out the culprit about two thirds or so into an episode by either elimination or the appearance of an unsuspecting character. This one was complicated by inserting not only a death but a missing body along with the game. Excellent writing!

Warning: Spoilers
Thought that the writing on this episode was way better than usual, and even the somewhat ridiculous plot-line of the suspects playing out a live game of Clue/Cluedo didn't get in the way.

I ended up watching it a couple of times, and found it just as enjoyable even when I already knew the outcome; there's a lot going on. Although I never did figure out quite what was happening during the Clue game, with people moving the weapons around etc; luckily it doesn't really matter.

Its a clever episode, and fits the quirks of the lead characters well. I get a chuckle out of how well actress Fern Sutherland plays the bemused reactions of Kristin Sims to all the nonsense swirling around her.

Warning: Spoilers
An episode that's a lot of fun to watch. It begins with a beautiful shot of Brokenwood then closes in on a funeral. Local poet Decian O'Grady has died and has left a farewell video with himself bidding goodbye to life with a bit of doggerel. (Note that throughout the episode various characters read some of O'Grady's poems aloud and while they are funny, one has to wonder about the local residents' ability to discern good poetry from bad.) Do pay attention to the lines O'Grady reads because they contain a clue to the mystery. Oh, the mystery? As the mortician drives O'Grady's coffin away, the rear door of the hearse springs open and the coffin breaks open to reveal a unknown woman's body in the coffin. Who is she and where is O'Grady's body?

As Shepherd and crew investigate, the stories of those present at O'Grady's death begin to contradict one another and unravel. It doesn't take a genius to figure out O'Grady's alive but who murdered the woman and why? Mike notices that all the major suspects have something in common: their names are close to the character in the classic Clue game. Turns out they noticed it also and created a real-life role playing Clue Game in a local mansion. Even the victim was "Miss Scarlet." Shepherd figures out the mystery and that the murder took place during the last Clue game. The final reveal will surprise you but there are clues aplenty in this episode for the viewer to utilize in figuring out the whodunit. A good entry with some tongue-in-cheeky humor.
