2001: FX and Early Conceptual Artwork (2007)

*** (out of 4)

This ten minute featurette has Douglas Trumbull discussing the special effects seen in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Trumbull discusses how several of the special effects were pulled off and discusses the difficulties in getting them to work. From here we get a few comments from Kubrick's wife as she shares her thoughts on the effects. From here we get various drawings and artwork that were done before filming and we see how they compare to what actually made it to the screen. Fans of the film will certainly enjoy hearing the comments from these two people but the really highlight comes from the artwork. There are some terrific drawings on display here and it just makes you even more amazed as to what they were able to get on the screen.
