PB spiralling downwards
tmitsarakistm27 December 2020
I feel like everything happening this season is somehow forced and repetitive of the previous seasons. The story unravelling is indeed intriguing and I will, therefore, continue to watch the series. However, there is lack of meaningful scenes. Everything seems so mashed together. They are jumping from place to place, everything happens so quickly, no character development. The new characters are mostly annoying (Gina) or caricatures (mosley, mcgovern). Too much needless violence. But I can see how the writers are trying to express the personal and the professional downfall of the PB (Tommy, Arthur, Michael). Nothing lasts forever, eh?

Arthur has a temper
pjdickinson-915962 September 2019
Another great episode. It's not a spoiler to say Arthur can sometimes be consumed with rage and that is confirmed again here with a magnificently shot display of barbarity in one of two blood curdling moments of brutality. We also see a little of Tommy's scheming to set up the final half of the season. There are no filler episodes in this show and it maintains a quality level hardly ever seen on anything else. Some shows have potential but they fall down because of failings in one department or another be it stretching things out too thinly, deciding not to light scenes or poor casting among a whole menu of mistakes. Not here. The framing of every single shot in this episode is, as usual, a work of art and the cast is wonderful. I had one gripe with an artificially constructed scene between two secondary characters but I forgive it because the point it was making was an important one. Once again, this show is serving up the best stuff on TV anywhere.

A good episode with more than a few pacing issues...
maxglen1 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has some brilliant moments, Gold's Ambush of The Billy Boys as well as him and Arthur's trap at the end, Tommy seeing Grace in the bar mirroring his scene with her in season 1 among others and I appreciate the efforts made in the cinematography and dialogue to shed light on race issues as the political party The British Union of Fascists were essentially England's equivalent of the Nazi party and I like that the intro shows that Tommy has no racial biases so we know his decision to publicly support Oswald Mosley towards the end is a difficult one for him and that he is going against his strongest of beliefs but the pacing in this episode just felt wrong to me. I felt like I was watching more a collection of random scenes strung together without thought of where they sat in the narrative and it was just a little jarring. The worst offender though is easily how quickly we go from Aberama's ambush to the Billy Boys response, it feels like there should have been some breathing space between the two but instead they are just minutes apart if that. A good episode nonetheless but definitely has its issues. I'll still give it a light 8 though for all the things I mentioned at the beginning. If you've read this far I hope you got something from this little review of mine and even if you didn't have a lovely day!

One of my favourite PB episodes ever
fshardlow4 September 2019
There was something really spectacular about this episode, it felt like the new style of season 5 really found its feet.

From some of the best dialogue I've seen in this series, at several points actually, paired with some incredible cinematography and experimental style choices, I just found this episode very compelling. I had my doubts about series 5, but now I think it's in full swing.

Very happy with where the shows going, if that counts for anything...

Solid episode, a lot of set-up
cianferry-935321 September 2019
This was a pretty good episode, first off I loved a lot of the new directional choices especially the wide shots and tracking shots and I do think the directing is the best part of the episode.

This episode was mainly set-up for the next three and was very dialogue heavy, It establishes a lot of information and characters views and some new plot points which get me very excited. I have to say it wasn't as good as the first two episodes but it's still maintaining great quality acting and writing and really is a necessary episode going forward in the story.

The acting was on point as always, great dialogue and directing with a very exciting ending which leads me to believe the next three episodes will be some of the best.

Overall rating: 8.5/10

johnyaiullo6 January 2022
Are people really getting upset about people coming to the aid of minorities? Goddamn you people need help. I need to fill the character requirement so I'm writing this now.

Where is this show going!!!
aboalhyjaa1 September 2019
It's getting boring. Nothing happened in this season yet except of course 10-15 minutes in every episode. I dont care whats going between arthur and his wife. I dont care about michale and his baby. I want some drama, action and killing. I want the old Peaky Blinders back !

Decent episode, the storyline is being pulled in multiple directions but there were some great moments. The scene's with Lizzie and Thomas are very well acted and oozing with tension.

Music and filming are the best ever
KRhea335 October 2019
I cannot describe it...you just need to watch it!! Cillian Murphy is incredible!! #bestshowofalltime

Finn Cole is once again thrust into a familiar of major drama. #watchanimalkimgdom

I know what I'm doing tonight..and every other night!! Again and again. This show sits at my all time list of favorite shows!!

Over the top perhaps...but looking at the series as a whole and you will see what I mean.

One for the football fans
xmasdaybaby196616 October 2019
As a bluenose (Birmingham City fan), it has been disappointing that my beloved team based just a few minutes walk from Garrison Lane has hardly had a mention. An ex-international footballer that played much of his football in the Midlands makes an appearance in this episode but, disappointingly, you don't have a clear view of his face

Trash Season Continues
magnum-ajt20 May 2020
Show is a shell of itself. Writers became more interested in pushing their personal agendas than telling a realistic coherent story. The grit and charm of Season 1 is gone completely

First and second episode were not good, this episode however 'saved' it for me.
imthebananaguy25 June 2020
I am happy and sort of relieved. This was a good episode. A few hasty moments in the beginning to which (as seen in previous two episodes) felt forced, but there's much less of that in this episode and the directional choices and dialogue felt naturally integrated with the story and where it was going. Speaking of the story it's starting to unfold into something quite interesting.

That scene with 'Arthur' taken in one shot was beautiful.

It feels like the original charm is coming back. Now I'm looking forward to the next episode!

How many times so you think they said the word 'Strategy' in this episode?
madelynmcfly-2027421 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How many times so you think they said the word 'Strategy' in this episode? All jokes aside, this was a pretty solid episode, and I think Season 5 has been one of the consistently best seasons of the show, even though I'm not too into the plot. Tommy was great here, his weird Grace visions are intruinging, and I was simultaneously feeling bad for Arthur and also feeling mad. Lizzie and Linda were excellent in this episode, and this season has really shown the depth of their characters. Micheal is a character I'm still iffy on, but I'm not a fan of Gina... I think she's written to be INCREDIBLY unlikable. Ada and Johnny-Dogs were good, it was nice to see Jessie Eden, and Karl was interesting to see in this episode, even if he was being a bit of a bigot. I think Ben Younger is a good addition to the show, and I just think the side-chatacters here are really strong. I enjoyed Polly in this episode, and I continue to sympathize with Aberama Gold. And Mosley... Definitely sucks, I hope he gets his commumpance, but he's going to be a tought villain for sure. This episode also had some cool moments, like the opening with the nuns was fantastic, and this was overall, another good episode in a great season.

I love that this show makes Blind Wave discus British politics of the early 20th Century
Neptune16529 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Things to remember: Oswald Mosley was a real guy, and a facsist -Tommy can't quit, he has to keep moving, keep doing business -Tommy needs a legitimate reason to take down Oswald Mosley, that's what all that talking to Younger is about. Sorry if that comes off condescending, these are just things I personally couldn't keep up with at this point in the show. The real Oswald Moseley was a very powerful figure and could have been even more powerful had he not formed the Blackshirts and sided with Hitler. Also he had affairs with his sister in law and step mother. See also The Mitford's for more context.

negative changes this season
silverton-3795924 July 2022
I just started back watching the series after a break at the end of the 4th season. This season's change in direction isn't positive, IMO. The writers have tried to graft current "wokeness" values onto early 20th century settings. The director is inept and seems to be trying to impress viewers with his silly ideas for scene setting and camera work. I don't think it's working.

The most annoying thing to me is that they miscast the role of Michael's new wife by using a bizarre looking, wall-eyed actor who can't fill the role, unless the role is intended to be that of an imbecile who tries to irritate viewers with her lack of talent.

I don't like the new direction of the series and have changed my opinion of the show drastically. The director should be given the boot along with the untalented, unattractive new addition to the cast of the family.

Gender and race politics ruined it
mephistopheles938 October 2019
I am still trying to figure out why Polly threatened to kill the nuns for making black kids use different soap and lynching a kid. Who the hell comes up with this idiocy?
