Horrendous.
Orlando35526 July 2018
I rarely review movies, but this was so bad, I felt compelled to do so. It will have been worth my time if I save one person from wasting 99 minutes they will never get back. I should have trusted the people that rated this atrocity 1 star. As for those who gave it 10? My only guess is they are taking the drugs the killer in the movie laced the water with. The best part of this movie other than the ending credits? The smart-alec cop! The worst? Everything else. Genre - thriller. By no means. The only thing that made this a thriller was me being on the edge of my seat for this nightmare to end. The driver has to be the worst actor I have ever seen, by far. The snippets of "suspenseful" music were poorly placed. The storyline had potential, but was not executed. Just don't bother. ***SPOILERS BELOW***

One of the most ludicrous scenes was when he drugs the burger and the boyfriend comes home, doesn't hear the cell phone ring or him yell "sh$t!" in that tiny apartment? Sure. The 10 minute argument regarding the hula girl on his dashboard was right up there too. Then 3 guys get in a Hitch car and recognize he fits the description of the Hitch killer, shares the same name, and they stick around to ask him about it, then discuss it out loud? Pretty sure he can hear them sitting in the back of that huge Prius! This is so dumb. This whole scene belongs in a spoof movie. "Would you like a (cue suspenseful music).....gummy bear?" This is so stupid! These are just a few examples of how absurd this movie was.

Riding to horror
TheLittleSongbird17 June 2018
Was drawn into seeing 'Rideshare' with a cool poster/cover, a very intriguing if not creative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive.

'Rideshare' is a film it doesn't do enough with its potential (although there are far bigger wastes of potential in film) and could have been much better, can't say that it is a great film because it isn't. It is not a terrible film though, as far as recent low-budget film viewings go it's one of the lacklustre but watchable ones easily. It certainly could have been far worse, considering the large number of films seen recently being mediocre at best and terrible at worst.

Lets start with the positives. The setting is atmospheric and spooky and 'Rideshare' is surprisingly well shot and easy on the eye, was expecting a cheap looking film and to me that wasn't the case here.

'Rideshare' at least doesn't have one want to tear their hair out or annoyed. There are suspenseful and creepy moments and there are parts that capture the horror of this very dangerous subject very well.

Albeit, it could have explored the subject more. It could have been more enlightening and there is not much new. The creepiness is not sustained all the way through, with the horror and tension giving away later to dullness and a lack of creativity and shocks. Things start not making much sense and gets silly. There has been far worse acting but it's not that inspired either.

Further issues are that it was clear that it was written in haste. There is a very rushed and careless feel to the story, especially in the second half where confusion and choppy can be found, and the underdeveloped and scrappy script likewise. The characters are flimsily developed and bland, the direction lacks focus and the music is far too intrusive, sounds cheap and irritating.

In conclusion, lacklustre but not a waste of time. 4/10 Bethany Cox

Is this a movie?
stevocbk244 June 2018
This "movie" is a psychological test to see how much you are willing to put your mind through. I'm sure the actors are solid in other ventures, but good lord this movie is one terrible one liner after another. This is glaringly obvious the moment the driver opens his mouth. I urge you do not watch this "movie" unless you are prepared for an all out assault on your intelligence. There are zero redeeming qualities in this.

Movie buff review.
lauren053126 January 2019
I watch every movie I can get my hands on. I go through amazon prime and Netflix and, etc and I literally watch every movie I can, even the lower rated movies. This is maybe my 3rd ever review that I've been compelled to write. I believe the following movies are only some that are better than this one: bride of chucky, any movie on lifetime, any movie that has Lindsey Lohan in it, and also any new movie with any of the Corey's in it. It's awful. There are a handful of times when I was laughing out loud by myself at some of the horrible writing and I'm still not sure if the satirical seeming hideous "jokes" were bad writing or bad acting or meant to be laughable.

Don't waste your time
benc314122 June 2018
This is such a lame movie. There are no redeeming qualities. The acting is lackluster, the writing is dreadful. It feels like a movie that was made as a joke, trying to make an awful movie. This is not even a so bad it's good situation. The premise was interesting but it did not deliver whatsoever.

5 Stars is Unattainable
sensificsaturday24 March 2022
As far as indie movies go, you can do much worse. It's too slow paced to share with friends, but if you're a regular low budget hound then trying to wrap your head around the directors intentions should keep you entertained.

The film looks nice, except for some of the make up. The characters are all unlikable (I request for any of the reviewers who thought Jason was relatable: please seek help), but at least most of them keep changing. Acting ranges from hokey to passable. The motives of the characters don't really come across and mechanics of the story doesn't make sense, but that helps keep the weirdness factor up. And the ending was pretty fun.

If you ever wanted to watch an overly extended scene of Kevin from The Office spend an evening driving around and awkwarding people into taking poison with alarming consistency, this is the film for you.

Did you know blue jays eat mice?
clsmith-6228821 August 2022
This captures the movie exactly. There are no blue jays in the movie, nor mice, but let's be honest that if someone offered to show you a video of a blue jay eating a mouse you'd watch it because it's kind of screwed up and you'd want to know more.

Rideshare is the kind of movie that is so horrendously and pointlessly bad that you sit there, eyes glazed over with your brain hurting in places it has never hurt before, so you can try to understand what you are actually watching. Just like the blue jay eating a mouse, it just has to be understood. The lead is nothing short of amazing. Picture John Candy if he had just eaten a whole sea lion, and then John Candy was eaten by an autistic version of Newman from Seinfeld who had masterfully perfected the art of speaking in nothing but monotone. If you can picture this in your mind then you are in the soulless and unlit ballpark of what your hour and a half is going to be about. Every actors appearance is a new low in this movie, but that is okay because that gives purpose to finish it. You want to see how much worse it can get, scene by scene, actor by actor, until you either finish it or sink into a deep self loathing depression for the fact you kept going as far as you did.

I say in the end just watch it. You won't enjoy it, but you will keep going with it way longer than you ever thought your own depravity was capable of. You will feel cheap and dirty at the end of it because you know you just proved to yourself that you are the kind of person you could easily hate or more likely pity. Take a shower, wash this movie from your pores, and then look in the mirror and promise yourself you will change. Have some water thirsty boy, and stay hydrated.

Surprisingly engaging, though not without flaws.
hnhnyc6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this with extremely low expectations, but have always been curious about what it must be like to be a driver and have all sorts of people hopping in and out of your car every day. We don't know why this dude set out on a killing spree on this particular night, or, mild spoiler, why he wanted to frame the person he wanted to frame for those crimes. There is also a kill that's totally inconsistent with all of his others, because that passenger was perfectly nice and just wanted to go grocery shopping. He let a similar passenger go earlier in the night. So. That being said, some of his lines and the way they're delivered are a little chuckle worthy, and I'm not sure if the cops being so slow to act at all, or successfully getting on his trail, is a middle finger to the department or just something we're supposed to overlook to buy our protagonist more time in the movie. And it's kinda weird, there are times you almost want him to get away with it because his passengers are so annoying, and yet you've established him as a real awful creeper monster that makes you uncomfortable AF. Either way, I was engaged, and for what I assume was a pretty low budget production like this one, I don't regret watching it at all.

This is bizarre.
xxmisssvxx3 October 2021
Aside from the obvious low budget quality, the terrible actors, and a lacking storyline, it does make you think about rideshare from a safety perspective. And this is the only redeeming quality about the movie.

It is a slow burn, and bizarre film. Some scenes make no sense as to why it was even edited into the film.

So, yeah. Bizarre.

You Look Thirsty
nogodnomasters24 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Remember those Taxi films which showed you real irritating passengers and we would fast forward to the drunk girls who would take their tops off? Well, this isn't that film. It is not a Taxi, it is "Hitch" (like Uber/Lyft) and the girls keep their top on...and the irritating passengers get killed.

Our Hitch driver is Jason Palmer (for the original Friday the 13th fans) and he has a wry and dry sense of humor. We applaud him as he kills our irritating pretentious passengers which includes the real Spankie Valentine (I didn't know there was a real one either, but she claims she is famous.) Bye Felicia.

The film has a twist which it really didn't need, but I liked. Most of the action is dialogue that takes place inside of a vehicle as ominous music plays when the driver says, "You look thirsty."

Not for everyone. I enjoyed it. I got into Jason. I can see most folks not liking it.

Guide: No sex or nudity.

Lame and slow
ohbebe-6584428 February 2019
I don't know how it has a 5 star rating. It was a very slow dull movie. I couldn't get into it and it was plain Boring. The story line wasn't much to get into. When I envision horror movies about Lyft drivers they are 100x more scary than this . It should be labeled slow slow thriller or Just put under "Boring".

Are You Thirsty
billcr1227 December 2023
I admit to have unusual taste in films and Rideshare is right up there with other oddities like Eating Raoul from many years back. It is all a matter of personal taste. Many of the reviews are extremely negative but I was entertained by the strangeness of the story.

Jason drives a Prius and picks up an assortment of passengers in the hours after midnight and asks his customers if they are thirsty and would like some water. Those who take him up on his offer have not made a wise decision as it turns out that the generous driver is a serial killer.

The situations are frequently funny and I recommend this low budget entry.

Be patient...it's a slow burn but the payoff is worth it
eyecue-450168 July 2018
Saw this on Amazon Prime Video for free. This flick surprised me in a good way! Despite a somewhat uneven opening (the stilted acting and writing in the first scene could've been a bit tighter), the overwhelming majority of performances and vignettes were highly believable -- as anyone who has been in a shared Uber on a hazy Saturday night can attest to! The movie kicks into gear soon after the first scene or two and becomes a surprisingly solid, darkly comic horror slow-burn, ultimately firing on all cylinders when it gives the misanthropic lead some scenery to chew on in the form of a noirish narration and some pretty creepy food preparation habits.

While newcomer director Tremain Hayhoe may not have intended it to be so, the driver (played by an almost unrecognizable Bradley Laborman) becomes the sardonic, cynical voice of a voyeuristic audience (and of a scriptwriter who doesn't go to great lengths to hide a deep disgust with the ME-llennial and SJW generation). That sort of "sympathetic antagonist" trope may not play well with a significant portion of the demographic a flick like this is aimed at, but one killing in particular -- think "Hawaii" -- had me alternating between shock, fist-pumping approval, and revulsion at the driver (and at myself).

I can understand why this film generated some controversy in its clinical, near-sympathetic treatment of the lead character and its "ripped from the headlines" concept. Your mileage may vary, but I actually dig the likeable bad guy and "based on a true story" aspects of this and other horror films.

Two (HITCHhiker) thumbs up!

Very good!
jenbabs-978889 June 2018
This film has a simple premise and yet somehow I was glued to the screen every minute of its gradual progression, I think this is down to good acting especially from the lead, script and atmosphere. There are so many terrible low budget movies out there understandably as it's not an easy feat, so when you come across a gem like this it's even more exciting as it brings something different to mainstream Hollywood. Well done to all involved, I shall be checking out this directors other films.

The greatest movie this generation will see. A gummy bear slinger in a goatee with some of the greatest acting of this generation. A fantastic job by all involved. You will not be able to look away. But if you do, be careful drinking the water...

A slasher I could relate to!
bmoviep17 August 2018
Oscar Wilde once said; "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." Only when a man believes he is safe from the repercussions of his actions, will reveal his true nature. "Rideshare" follows the exploits of an Uber driver named Jason. After witnessing the side of Los Angeles from constant bombardment of fake personalities, Jason grows hostile towards those around him and develops a dark, nihilistic view of humanity as a whole. This new outlook soon leads him down the path of murder and violence. Jason converses with each passengers, while secretly judging whether or not that person deserves to live. The passenger continues talking, completely oblivious of the weight his words hold regarding whether they will reach their expected destination or become another victim of the crazed driver. Just as the masked man speaks freely, Jason's passengers talk to him without reservation and undeterred by typical social conventions. By the end of the drive, the passengers true nature is put on display for Jason pass judgement on. The vapid and distasteful personalities that make up his passengers, serve as a constant reminder of everything Jason despises about the world around him. it's difficult not to sympathize with his actions to some extent, while simultaneously condemning them as morally reprehensible.

I was pretty skeptical going in
swannbrock26 May 2018
Most of the other reviews on here were so glowing I was suspicious. Its actually a really good movie though.

I'm hard to scare, and this movie doesn't really try to be scary or tense at all. It is however absolutely creepy and has just the most disturbing guy at the center of it.

I'm going to call this a low budget masterpiece. The cinematography is decent, the lighting is creepy, the music is good, and the writing is pretty tight.

All in all worth watching.

What Terminator 1984 should have been
mroczkowski28 May 2018
I'm an uber driver and found this film truly inspirational. I can now put a creative twist into my mundane day job. The main character is practically an obese terminator. The acting is superb. A lot of female dialogue except I didn't catch what they said due to staring at their chesticles. This film catches Los Angeles women personalities perfectly. Pushup bras and brains of a squirrel. I took a star off due to inaccuracies of Hollywood. I read that the Director spent 60% of the film's budget on recreating Hollywood Blvd in Kalamazoo, Michigan where this was filmed. I live in Hollywood and can assure you this isn't how it truly looks. Also in one scene the main character took half a tainted hamburger out of a drugged out girl's hand. He didn't eat the hamburger but in real life a man of his stature would surely finish that veggie burger off. Anyways, I spent a lot of time contemplating if this masterpiece should replace JAWS as my lonely Saturday night special. YES with confidence. Waiting for the BluRay release.

Best horror film in decades
hbksai-098273 May 2018
This is a landmark horror film that will be studied by film critics and fans alike for centuries to come. The use of of lighting and noirish elements are legendary to say the least. Hayhoe's directions is on par with a young Kubrick and makes Hitchcock in his prime look like an amateur. This is quite simply one of the greatest films I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

Classic
YRLY59E9 August 2018
Makes you wonder about Uber and Lyft. This is a very well done budget movie and you have to look at it a bit deeper into as well. Lead actor was superb. Some of the supporting ones seemed over acted but others not so much so it made it fit that they were just perhaps over the top personalities. A few little twists. A few clever lines. The current 3.9 rating as I type this is an insult to this film. Could well become a cult classic.

Fresh and original take on the genre!
ridesharemovie1 October 2018
This is a movie that you would never see HOLLYWOOD make. It's original, it's unique, yes it's a bit rough around the edges but that's to expect for a low-budget horror movie. I wasn't sure what to expect with quite rhe polarized reviews on here, but if you watch with an open mind and with a few friends like I did you can thoroughly enjoy it.
