The Making of 'The Gate' (1987)

*** (out of 4)

This here was one of those old promotional shorts that were made to try and make people interested in a movie coming to a theater near them. The majority of these ran for a couple minutes or maybe ten-minutes at the very most. What makes this one rather interesting is that it clocks in at 22-minutes and features quite a bit of interesting stuff that fans are going to enjoy. Director Tibor Takacs and writer Michael Nankin are interviewed about the film and this is where we get some pretty interesting stories. Nankin is especially interesting and especially how he talks about how he came up with the story and what he was trying to get out of it. There's not many behind-the-scenes footage but there are plenty of clips from the movie itself. The main goal of something like this is to sell the picture to people and I think for the most part it did a good job. The clips shown are all good ones that grab your attention and the stories told are also quite entertaining.
