I've holidayed in Zakynthos but had never heard this story - not surprising given that most of the locals had forgotten it too, and most of Jewish population left for Israel after the war. A wonderful, uplifting little film, and survivor / narrator Haim Konstantini is a magnet for the camera - a natural storyteller full of fun and warmth!

This is a truly inspiring and beautiful documentary about the wonderful people living on a small Greek island during WWII. On this island at this time, the Christians and Jews lived in perfect harmony. When the island was invaded by the Nazis, the island's leaders refused to give up the names of its Jews. In the end, all 275 Jews living on this island are saved from the devastating fate met by six million European Jews. This very simple and touching film is beautifully done. Everyone should watch this documentary.

Uplifting story about the holocaust??? YES!
This is a must watch. I've know about the story of Zakynthos in WWII for years (as well as Archbishop Damaskinos of Athens). But to watch the story being told by someone who was there brings a different perspective and makes it real.
Worth every minute.

This beautiful short film should be required viewing when discussing World War II. Although hard to believe, it is true that an entire island stood united against the Nazis in protecting its Jewish residents from extermination. As the storyteller says, had every country responded with the courage of Zakynthos very few Jews would have met their terrible fate.
