Lionsgate has inked a new deal with Australian streamer Stan, which will have Lionsgate series and originals from Starz. Stan becomes the Australian home of Starz original drama and docs under the terms of the agreement meaning the likes of “Sweetbitter” (pictured), “Vida,” and doc series “Wrong Man,” will play on the Svod service.
The deal also covers upcoming Starz originals such as “The Rook,” the “John Wick” series spinoff “The Continental,” and “The Spanish Princess,” which follows period drama “The White Queen.” Lionsgate series including “The Royals” are also covered by the deal.
Stan, a joint venture between Australian media players Fairfax and Nine Entertainment, has topped the million subscriber mark according to local reports. It launched in 2015, ahead of Netflix in Australia and has moved into originals with “Wolf Creek,” “Romper Stomper,” and “The Gloaming,” which was announced earlier Tuesday.

Australian streaming service, Stan has commissioned “The Gloaming,” as an 8-part drama series created by Victoria Madden (“The Kettering Incident”.) Disney’s ABC Studios will handle international distribution.
Pitched by Stan as “genre-bending,” the series follows an unorthodox and troubled female cop who leads an investigation into the murder of an unidentified woman. To solve the case, she has to team up with a man she has not spoken to in twenty years. They discover that the murder has links to a case from the past and what begins as a routine investigation exposes something more insidious.
The series will be shot in Tasmania, against the backdrop of Tasmania’s capital city Hobart and brooding outdoor locations. It will premiere on Stan in 2019.
“The Gloaming” will be produced by Australian companies Sweet Potato Films and 2 Jons, in association with Mushroom Pictures. Producer credits go to John Molloy, Victoria Madden, Fiona McConaghy.

Remember the scene from the original Mad Max, when a wounded Max Rockatansky lies on the road and Nicole Kidman from BMX Bandits arrives and jumps over him? Remember how Olivia Newton-John from Grease, glammed up in a leather jacket and skin-tight black pants, observed this interaction from the side of the road while smoking a cigarette?
Remember how one of the cars in Mad Max was destroyed by a group of angry women, including Lucy Fry from the Wolf Creek TV series and Jacqueline McKenzie from Romper Stomper? Remember how Essie Davis from The Babadook throws a match on the vehicle while Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths from Muriel’s Wedding laugh as it goes up in flames?...
