British actor Vivian Oparah has signed with CAA.
Best known for playing Tanya Adeola in the “Doctor Who” spinoff “Class,” Oparah currently stars in the forthcoming rom-com “Rye Lane,” which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival.
In the film, Oparah stars as Yas, while David Jonsson (“Industry”) plays Dom, two twenty-somethings reeling from bad break-ups who connect over the course of an eventful day in South London. (The film gets its title from the real-life Rye Lane in Peckham.)
The rom-com follows the pair as they “help each other deal with their nightmare exes, potentially restoring their faith in romance.” The Searchlight Pictures movie is directed by Raine Allen Miller, in her feature debut, from a screenplay by Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia. “Rye Lane” will be released on March 31 via Hulu in the U.S. and on Star internationally.

The Daleks are back. Indeed, it’s almost as if they never went away. The BBC has announced that Doctor Who’s 2022 New Year special is entitled ‘Eve of the Daleks’, and will see the Doctor once again spend January the 1st battling Skaro’s deadliest. Well, tradition is tradition. Both 2019’s ‘Resolution’ and 2021’s ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ put the Daleks front and centre on New Year’s Day, meaning this latest festive episode completes something of a trilogy for outgoing executive producer Chris Chibnall.
The forthcoming festive special was written by Chibnall and directed by Annetta Laufer, and sees the Tardis crew joined by Aisling Bea, Adjani Salmon and Pauline McLynn. Here’s the official story synopsis:
Sarah (Aisling Bea) owns and runs Elf storage, and Nick (Adjani Salmon) is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. This year, however, their night...

In 2017, Oscar-nominated “Sound of Metal” actor Riz Ahmed gave a rousing speech to the House of Commons warning that the U.K. could lose its Muslim youth to extremism unless they see themselves represented on screen as something other than problematic stereotypes. “We are going to start losing British teenagers to the story that the next chapter in their lives is written with Isis in Syria,” said Ahmed in the now iconic speech.
Just a year later, the BBC’s Richard Madden-fronted “Bodyguard,” from “Line of Duty” creator Jed Mercurio, became the hottest U.K. export since “Downton Abbey,” scoring a major deal with Netflix that opened the show to a global audience. But underpinning this British success story was a key Muslim female character who, portrayed initially as a victim, turned out to be a terrorist herself.
This confused run of hits and misses have come to define Muslim representation on British television,...
