This film was produced with the assistance of the South Australian Film Corporation and the Creative Development Branch of the Australian Film Commission.
In an interview with IF Magazine, Michael Cusack said: "...we made a short stop-motion film The Disc of Magala. It was a fantasy with dragons and knights and things like that. We took the film to the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) to get the sound mixed. When we got there, the head mixer there, James Currie, was so impressed by it that he invited the members of the Film Corporation board to come down and look at it. We didn't know he'd done that. Then a couple of days later we got a phone call from the Corporation offering us both jobs".
