Years ago, Indian director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat fell asleep on a cross-country train ride, only to discover upon reaching his destination that the cars on either side of his had been robbed by armed bandits, known as “dacoits.” The heist couldn’t have been too intense, or it would have awakened him, but it got the helmer’s gears turning about what a truly terrifying train raid might look like. The answer: “Kill,” in which a crew of 40-odd thieves board a train, intending to steal passengers’ watches and phones, then turn bloodthirsty after running into a pair of hardheaded commandos.
As brutal a film as the country has ever produced, “Kill” is a shockingly graphic action showcase from an industry that typically plays violence in a more cartoony register. All told, “Overkill” probably would have been a better title, considering how far Bhat takes each and every altercation, milking it for maximum vengeance.

Director Rahul Khan, who was associated with several TV shows like ‘Porus’ as an assistant director, recalled shooting for his short film ‘Insaaniyat’. Rahul shared how real-life stories during the pandemic and the religious harmony that he witnessed became the inspiration for his film.
He said: “Insaniyat is about the religious harmony of India as it talks about the brotherhood of Hindus and Muslims. The idea of the film came from watching families struggling yet willing to go out of their way to help others, seeing how people stood by each other during the Covid times, motivated us to represent an Indian family through our film work.”
“We had a great experience shooting the film in remote locations of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Majorly, the film is shot near Jama Masjid. We faced a little difficulty due to Covid but the local residents were very helpful and gave us their enormous support,...

ReviewThu Pa Saravanan’s film is so full of cliches and convenient coincidences that I wondered if the title ‘Kaadhil Poo Soodavum’ would have been more suitable since that’s what it demands from the audience.Sowmya RajendranVeerame Vaagai SoodumVeeramae Vaagai Soodum translates to ‘it is bravery that will wear the crown of victory’. The ‘king’ on the hunt for this crown is Porus (Vishal), named after an ancient king who is said to have stood up to Alexander’s might. If that inspires visions of a mighty hero striding across the screen and fighting an awe-inspiring battle, you should considerably lower your expectations. Thu Pa Saravanan’s film with Vishal in the lead is so full of cliches and convenient coincidences that I wondered if the title ‘Kaadhil Poo Soodavum’ (a difficult-to-translate Tamil phrase that implies gullibility) would have been more suitable since that’s what it demands from the audience.
