Whore is stunningly powerful and, like most of Hörsch's work, convoluted, dark, deep and intensely psychological. It is brilliant as his Slaves and Deleted Scenes are brilliant, though in a completely different way.
This is not really a film about prostitution. It is much more about one marginalized human being's battle with depression and drugs. Krista's painfully honest perception, intelligence and awareness heighten and underscore the irrational futility of why she does what she does while knowing all too well the inevitable, horrible and tragic consequences.
Krista is credited as performer, writer and co-creator but it is never explicitly stated if the film is a literal documentary or (as with Slaves and Deleted Scenes) an artful dramatization. If the later, Krista's acting performance is world class; if the former, she is exceedingly courageous and brave. Either way, she is a truly amazing woman.
So, having just finished watching, and still very much in the trance of it, I remain blown away by its power. I certainly recommend it but caution that it is not for everybody. It is for immersion rather than casual watching; an experience to be both savored and survived.
