A Sharper Dave!
RanchDude14 January 2018
Dave is back and brilliant! You might not get all the raunchiness that your teen-aged self would want, but you laugh. You'll say Dave is right, Right On! Highly recommend for Chappelle fans and non-Chappelle fans.

Master comedian!
wordrichsista11 March 2020
I'm not a fan of Dave Chapelle, but I am a fan of excellence. The way he masterfully crafts his jokes and is so raw and honest, I love it. He made me cringe as he spoke but that's what truth does. Just wow.

Dave Chappelle tells us how he feels
ComedyFan201019 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This was a pretty fun special by Dave Chappelle.

He had a great move where he told us a punch line first and then went on with telling the story. This shows what a great comedian he is because when he ended the joke with a punchline it was still hilarious..

I like how he is not bending down to the snowflakes and tells how he will keep on telling the jokes they find offensive. And he is not just doing it as a statement but as a fun statement with many jokes in it.

After he goes through a political part. It is also fun. I am slightly sick of the Trump stories, not because I like him but because it is everywhere. But Dave Chappelle is great at it. I think he can people laugh who also disagree with him. I liked Hillary but I still laughed through his jokes about election.

The end segment on Emmett Till was a bit weird. It wasn't bad, it was a pretty interesting speech, but it was not funny which makes one wonder if it belongs into a stand up. He ended it in a hilarious way with an unsuspecting twist but it was a bit too long.

Haters gonna hate ...
LawlessHeart1237 January 2018
Wow ... Dave is back, baby! Dave continues to keep it real and raw w/o being too vindictive and spiteful. He doesn't spare anyone's feelings, yet, he still manages to make it a positive experience. He's a real master of his craft.

Btw, pay no mind to the other reviewers (haters). They're probably Trumpets, who want us all to hate on each other. Dave hasn't fallen off, he's always touched upon "social justice" matters in his shows, whether it's police brutality or transgender issues. Real Chappelle "fans" would know and appreciate this, and not bitch about it afterwards.

Warning: If you're offended by scenes of people of all colours, creeds, and sexual persuasions laughing and having a good time together ... then don't watch! Simple.

This man is a living legend
HarrsonFord18 January 2018
For all the people criticising him for being too political or too straightforward: At one point in the show he precisely addresses these people for being sensible and sulky. Great comedy is supposed to offend everyone and anyone. And Chappelle is a grandiose comedian of our time.

The goat
chocka945 November 2018
Dave Chapelle is the goat and this is one of his finest works. Its current rating is ridiculously low for the quality of this masterpiece.

If you're looking for cheap laughs look elsewhere
MacMurrah13 January 2018
This is a masterclass. Look, the jokes arent quick and quirky , but the stories that lead up to the hilarity takes time to build, to appreciate. I enjoyed the stories and I enjoyed the eventual funny twist. Dave's back and he's different, people change, he's not a cooked up pothead anymore, the man is a poet and he's brilliant.

If you want quick crappy jokes then listen to Katt Williams or Corey Holcomb, this is philosophy with a funny bone.

I did wish he didn't bash Trump but thats the season nowadays it seems.

Damn, He Good.
colorthekid3 July 2019
I don't know how he does it, but Chappelle always manages to be "almost offensive".

Now, that's a skill.

Best of his recent Netflix resurgence
toofancorp17 February 2018
Equanimity is relevant, deep, and modern. I thought his first two were ok... but this one seemed truly composed and prepared. If made you laugh and shared a message at the same time.

Funny
dougmacdonaldburr4 January 2018
I enjoyed this show a lot. I am a big fan of all of Dave Chappelle's comedy. He has to be one of the best stand up comedians in the world. The jokes are well written and well executed. Honestly this is not his best show, but, I would argue this is still better than anything 90% of all other stand ups shows. My only real criticism is when he gets political and talks about social justice. I do not have to agree with him about everything to find him funny, but, there were a few times where I wished he would move on and get back to the jokes. On the whole, it is really funny and if you are a fan you will probably enjoy it.

Hilarious, but not as consistently so as his earlier stuff
grantss30 March 2018
A 2017 stand-up special by comedian Dave Chappelle, produced by Netflix. Covers ground that fans of Dave Chappelle will be used to, e.g. race issues, plus looks into the current political situation in the US.

If you're a fan of Dave Chappelle, as I am, you'll know what to expect - biting, irreverent, fearless humour, delivered in distinctive colourful style. Screamingly funny at times, making you think it was the early 2000s all over again.

However, not always funny, unfortunately. Chappelle goes into US politics and often it's more a rant than joke. Even his jokes on the subject seem predictable and below him. He should just have stuck to his usual subjects and stayed clear of politics.

Ultimately, very funny, but in spells - quite uneven. Too many dull bits to be brilliant. Unlike his earlier stuff, which never had an unfunny moment.

Starts off great then nosedives.

Warning: Spoilers
Dave is stunning and brave as he spend 2/3rds of his routine apologising to the left and tagging on Trump as if it's edgy then spends 20 mins telling the Emmet Till story Didn't laugh once after about the 17 min mark. Glad I watched sticks and stones before this garbage or I probably would have skipped it.

Standup Is Not For The Stupid
kamille21 October 2020
I will concede that there are limits to good taste.. but something really has to be crass for me to be offended. If a comedian was an obvious misogynist and glorified rape, I would be disgusted. If a comedian riffed on "hilarity" of child abuse, I would get up and walk out. But when a brilliant writer of comedy, with perfect timing and impeccable delivery, that has charisma and a rapport with the audience, has us laughing at ourselves over the idiosyncrasies of our race, gender, religion, economic standing, etc., then I am totally entertained and not the slightest bit offended.. because THIS is what makes comedy comedy! Finding humor in our humanness is the very core of comedy, and has always been the stem from which comedy sprouts.

Chappelle is, as others have pointed out (and I can think of no better descriptive) the Master of stand-up! I laughed my ample derriere off from start to finish - all the while in awe of Dave's brilliant mind. His humor is topical and relevant, and it's obvious, to anyone who doesn't view life as deadpan serious, that he is the consummate "Every-man".. meaning, he has a way of relating to, and appreciating, every kind of human being. That's important in comedy.

A successful comic must have the skill to extract and exploit the nuances of social behavior if they want to make people laugh. If you think you're going to be entertained by a comic getting up on stage and cracking jokes about the weather, or their dog's cute antics.. well, you might chuckle.. but you're not going to choke on your popcorn and laugh so hard that you cry, like you would if he (or she) did a bit about a behavior that is unique to you or your respective group. (For example, how Italians can't talk without making wild hand gestures, or how Canadians punctuate every other statement with an "eh?" We all - most of us, anyway - get a big kick out of seeing someone "do" us). Think of the difference between a caricaturist who over-emphasizes the subject's big ears and jowls, and minimizes his tiny chin - vs a caricaturist who draws a perfect likeness of the subject. The latter is just not funny. (Nor a caricaturist). Representative art can be skillful, but does not usually evoke any emotions. Might as well take a photograph.

I will always choose a Dave Chappelle routine over pretty much any other comedian. He's spectacularly funny, but he's also a man of depth. He brings up the point in this special, about how difficult it is for a performer to say or do anything in today's world without offending someone (and I would like to add, often with life-affecting repercussions). Sadly, he's not wrong. I hope our social climate becomes more tolerable in the near future, and that he returns to the stage to entertain those of us who understand the difference between satire and reality.

Equanimity
MovieJunkie512 July 2020
Another great comedy special, as all of DP are. He's truly a legend of the genre and is not afraid of speaking what everyone else is thinking. Besides criticizing everyone and everything, it still gives you messages to take home and reflect on. Always funny, always capable of making me feel better in a rainy day.

IMDb needs to fix this new format I can not see what I am typing
TheOneThatYouWanted25 January 2018
I am a huge fan of Dave. You can even check out the reviews a made for his other Netflix specials if you do not believe me. Anyway, this special didn't do it for me. It was okay at best, maybe he set the bar too high? He even makes a joke about how easy comedy is for him but frankly it was like he wasn't trying hard enough - until the end of the special for like 15 minutes. Anyway, I'm going to literally watch the other special right now and hope it is better then this.

One of the best stand ups you can ever watch
kwekmiester19 December 2021
I'm not even from the US but do follow US related news and I would say I find Dave and his Netflix specials one of the best. If your "ears aren't too brittle" then you'll find this special awesome.

I would rate Equanimity the top 1 or 2 on all of Dave's Netflix specials.

What a let down
jpaulley10 June 2018
Dave Chappelle is my favorite comedian of all time so you can imagine my disappointment having to give this a 1 star. The first half of the show was hilarious and had us all laughing out loud (in typical Dave fashion). The second half on the other hand was Dave telling the Emmett Till story (which is in no way funny) and bashing our President (Trump). If I wanted to here an hour of that, I'd just tune in to CNN. I hope Dave gets back to his original style of comedy and stays away from biased politics and hate crime stories

Get an act
drjgardner23 September 2020
Chapelle sits around and talks about things that interest or impact him. If I was his friend I might find it interesting. I'm not his friend. I tuned in to hear some stand-up comedy not some sit down blather.

Didn't laugh once
0w01 September 2019
I literally didn't laugh once... not even joking

I loved Dave's previous specials like "Killin' Them Softly" and "For What It's Worth", but these Netflix specials simply aren't funny. I still love and respect Dave for his awesome previous specials, but these latest ones are a blemish on his career.

Ignorant
djmrmusic20 September 2018
I've always been a Dave Chappelle fan... until I watched this display of absolute pandering to the sheeple of the left. He's more intelligent than what he says in this special, well at least I thought he was, I'm not sure anymore. This is the last thing I will watch from Dave. If you have common sense, you won't find this funny, if you think CNN is honest news, then you're probably ignorant enough to enjoy this crapfest.
