“It’s Only Life After All,” a documentary about the folk-rock duo Indigo Girls, is for fans only. For those who are not fans, and for those who only dimly remember their initial albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s, this Sundance Film Festival Opening Night entry is a rambling, unrevealing look at their lives and careers that director Alexandria Bombach allows to run over two hours without focusing her material.
Amy Ray and Emily Saliers met in grammar school, and Saliers was one grade ahead of Ray. During the extensive interviews with them in this movie, a hazy picture emerges of Ray as the driving force of their act, or the one with the most ambition, and Saliers as the more elusive or distant of the two. They came up the hard way through gigs in bars and clubs, and their breakout hit was the song “Closer to...

The awkwardly titled gay rugby romance “In from the Side” is so padded out at 134 minutes with both rugby games and sex scenes that the final effect is numbing, and writer-director Matt Carter doesn’t bother much with either plot or character to fill out his narrative.
Mark (Alexander Lincoln) is a member of the South London Stags, which is thought of as the B-team of a gay London Rugby Club. Before you can hum “Some Enchanted Evening,” he locks eyes from across a crowded room with Warren (Alexander King), a cocky guy who plays on what is considered the A-team.
While out at a nightclub with fellow team members, Mark makes eye contact with Warren again, and Warren buys them some tequila shots. Confident in his approach, Warren licks Mark’s hand in a suggestive manner, and they banter on the dance floor and share a kiss before Mark...

"You think I like having to hide this from everyone we know…" Strand Releasing has debuted the official US trailer for a British romantic drama titled In from the Side, made by filmmaker Matt Carter making his feature directorial debut. This premiered at the BFI Flare London LGBTQ+ Film Festival earlier this year, and opens in January in the US. Carter is also a VFX artist, including most recently working on the "Andor" series, trying to making his name as a filmmaker. In from the Side is "a surprisingly moving sports-team story slathered in sweat, streaked with mud, and dripping with sensuality." Sounds exciting. As a "B Squad" of gay athletes tries to overcome inexperience and push past rivalries to score an elusive win, a secret affair simmers among them. Mark (puppy-eyed Alexander Lincoln) finds himself unable to avoid the blazing appeal of teammate Warren (Alexander King), with his cocky attitude and emotional unavailability.

Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. distribution rights to San Sebastián competition title “Pornomelancolia,” sales agent Luxbox announced during this week’s Ventana Sur film-tv market in Buenos Aires.
Strand plans a late Spring, early Summer U.S. theatrical release.
As previously announced, Filmin will handle distribution in Spain. The film has also been picked up by Epicentre Films Distribution for France.
Directed by Argentina’s, Manuel Abramovich who won the 2019 Silver Bear at Berlin with his short “Blue Boy,” the Spanish-language picture follows a sex influencer who posts naked photos and homemade porn videos for his social media following.
Despite his success, he feels melancholic when alone. Questions the film raises is how we reacts to others’ gaze, and what happens when intimacy becomes so public as to be almost pornographic.
“We’re looking forward to introducing this very bold, inventive, character study of a young man navigating the...
