- Occasionally violent cinematic point and click adventure that mimics the style and feel of the 1940s adventure film serials. The game features many short primitive FMV sequences as well as a couple quasi-arcade sections that mostly have to do with navigation like driving a plane, a boat or sneaking. The game is controlled with both the mouse and the keyboard.
Puzzles are mostly inventory based and sometimes timed. The game allows for unwinnable states and there are many ways to get killed. While often having somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek tone, the game features several violent murders, blood and titillating moments including an FMV scene where Maya is showing off her cleavage and a scene where she takes a bath under a waterfall with her nude back turned towards the camera. The player can often choose between several dialogue options and while most of them are humorous, sometimes he or she must choose the right one to progress.
The plot: In 1957, a man described as an 'all American boy' called Jason Roberts learns that his older brother Allen, a scientist sent by the company Allister Research for which they both work to investigate the reports of amazing forest regeneration in remote slashed and burned areas of the Amazon basin on behalf of Brazilian authorities, has gone missing after a vicious attack on his camp.
In Allen's home, Jason finds his instructions on how to come and find him, however, part of it is coded. To find the code, Jason must break into the company's well guarded top secret lab that's guarded by a robot. Meanwhile, someone trashes Allen's apartment. Jason eventually manages to decode the message and immediately proceeds to travel to a corrupt small South American town to find someone who can tell him what happened to Allen.
In town, Jason meets police colonel Sanchez, a ruthless corrupt man who believes that what Allen was actually looking for were priceless green emeralds stolen from conquistador Hernan Cortes by one of his underlings. In a local rundown bar, Jason meets a shady pilot who agrees to help him. However, he betrays Jason mid flight and tries to kill him, but Jason manages to push him out of the plane to his death.
After piloting and crash landing the plane, Jason is contacted by an attractive but distrustful adventurer named Maya, who agrees to help him find his brother. However, she first tests his knowledge about Allen to check if he really is who he says he is. After passing the test, Jason is taken to the hut where his brother, shot in the shoulder with an arrow, is hiding and recovering. He explains to Jason that an unknown healing substance may be behind the miraculous plant growth and how he hoped to obtain its extract for further research, but once he and his team were near their destination, someone attacked their camp and slaughtered almost everyone.
Jason then learns that the only one who can help him in his quest is an old cynical explorer, Hans Stroheim, who lives deep within the jungle. Jason, Allen and Maya go to the jungle again to continue the original mission but Sanchez men attack and after a long shootout mortally wound Allen near a hanging bridge. Allen sacrifices himself to help Jason and Maya escape by cutting the bridge and falling to his death while at the same time preventing Sanchez to cross the abyss.
Grieving Jason travels with Maya further in the jungle by boat, but the captain turns out to be a slaver, kidnaps Maya and throws Jason overboard. Jason manages to survive and rescue her blowing the boat up. They find Hans but he agrees to help them only after they bring him the emeralds. He shows them where to look and they agree. After their side-quest, he helps them reach the area Allen was looking for.
There, Maya reveals to be an Amazon spy and warns Jason that the Amazons live in the area and that they are extremely hostile to outsiders - especially men. She then goes to take a bath under a waterfall, but Sanchez and his men show up and shoot her. Jason makes it to the Amazon city with Sanchez in hot pursuit. When Sanchez stops to gun down two Amazon guards, Jason manages to set off a trap killing Sanchez and his men with explosives.
The Amazons, do not take kindly to Jason, however, and throw him into a pit where he must fight a giant man-eating ant. After defeating the beast, Jason gain their respect and is released. He's taken to the Amazons' temple where Maya greets him live and well. She reveals that the waters given to the Amazons by their god have amazing healing powers and that's what made the plants recover. That's also why they had to attack Allen's team to protect their holly site and secret. However, once a human drinks it, he or she become immortal as long as they never leave the Amazon city.
She then offers Jason a choice - if he promises to keep their secret, he can have their emeralds of the sacred jaguar that Cortes tried to steal and return to the world rich, or he can stay with her. Jason happily professes his deep love for Maya and chooses to stay. The end.
