Good Short
It Stalked the Night (1977)
*** (out of 4)
Future special effects worker Mark Sawicki wrote, produced, directed and edited this six-minute student film that he made while at USC. The story is quite simple as The Son (Ronnie Destro) and The Girl (Carol Spilman) are making out when the boy's father (Michael Pickett) wakes up and he must try and sneak the girl past him. There's obviously nothing ground-breaking here but it's an entertaining short for what it was. I thought the editing style was quite good and I also really enjoyed the look of the film. The B&W cinematography was quite nice and I thought the film looked very good. The movie really did a nice job at looking like one of those scary "old dark house" movies that were popular back in the 1930s. Sawicki deserves credit for capturing a certain look but I also thought the ending was rather funny.
