Has potential, needs some tweaks to be great
curtisaiken-0499731 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In the first episode the rule was that if a driver had a false start they re-started the race. The show started losing my interest when in episode 4 (King of the World) I really wanted to see how the cars performed but 2 cars false started so only 2 cars competed and there was no restart (the rules had changed), but wheres the fun in that when the whole episode follows the story of 4 drivers.

Also, the supercars have their stats referred to, e.g. "this car can do a 10.2sec quarter mile", but for the actual race there is no clock so who knows if any of the cars are actually performing well or with amateur drivers perhaps they are all running 13sec quarter miles.

Racing is hard on the cars so perhaps all the sleeper cars can handle is one race, maybe that's why the rules changed, because the cars can't handle 2 starts?

When the sleeper drivers read the quarter mile fastest time for the supercar they all say they can beat the supercar but often they don't, so I wonder if the sleeper drivers ever had any clue about how fast they could drive a quarter mile.

It's a good show but after a few episodes the flaws I've mentioned start becoming annoying and take away from the excitement of the race.

I would rate the show higher if they made some improvements to race day.

It's all about the people.
kitellis-9812111 July 2018
It's not about the race. It's about the people and their cars. Each episode introduces us to four new drivers (plus friends and family). The show is about their stories, which unfold as they prepare their cars for a 10 second drag race; three sleepers (souped-up piles of junk) against one bona fide supercar. The people and the cars are what the show is about. The race is just how each episode ends. If you want to watch racing, pick a different show.

Better than I thought it would be so far
cliff-327-33570324 April 2018
Definitely a really well done show. There's a lot of focus on the people behind the cars- their motivations, back story, and what they hope to accomplish from the race. You get to learn a little bit about the cars and what's under the hood, but it's not just about trying to match up cars with known quarter mile times and racing against a supercar that also has a known quarter mile time. That certainly wouldn't be good TV. Instead, it's about drivers, their sleeper cars, and stories about real people.

I enjoy fact that the supercar drivers aren't just "rich assholes" looking for kicks. They have their own stories as well, and the contrast with the sleeper car drivers is certainly interesting.

Brilliant
cellar_door__23 April 2018
I turned on Fastest Car to just see some drag races, but what I found was the most moving back stories of sleeper car enthusiasts and their families. By the the time they finally got round to race at the end of each episode I was so invested in them emotionally (and dying to know which car will win!). What a great show, here's hoping for a second season.

Fastest Depression in the World
While it's interesting to watch these cars and the effort that goes into them... Why oh why does every driver have a son story and end up in tears!?

Driver 1 "I'm doing this for my dead mother" que tears.

Driver 2 "my wife divorced me" que the water works.

Driver 3 "my best friend's dog passed away" que the deluge.

That's pretty much every episode. It starts to grind on your gears (excuse the pun).

The People

What is great about this series, is the people and their stories. Not only is the Fastest Car filled with neat vehicles for gear heads, but it features amazing stories of struggle and perseverance. I love this production.

Overload of American-style dramatisation
KeimoLantio22 September 2019
In typical American reality-TV fashion, there's an endless amount of cheesy dramatisation and very little actually working on the cars. Everything is so painfully , it feels like the show is made for people with IQ below 70; Supercars owners are intentionally chosen and framed to be as obnoxious as possible and the underdog car builders are have the same repetitive sob-story. Way too much BS and way too little racing and building.

Cars, drama and changing the image of people
rstySp00n16 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The show: When I started watching this I was kinda worried knowing how Netflix shows are all the same nowadays. I was expecting rich obnoxious (white) people in supercars bought by their parents racing against poor people with rough lives that put their last penny in a car to win money to feed their 6 children and 5 dogs... Actually the supercarpeople weren't the most obnoxious and biased. Except for maybe one dude in the first episode of season 2, he was a typicall rich airhead and maybe the lawyer with his outrageous Lambogini,

The people: Most of the supercarpeople worked really hard and some came from nothing, and allmost all of them showed a lot of respect towards their competition.

Now the carbuilders, they were trashtalking the supercars all the time, calling them trustfundbabies, obnoxious richkids, bought not build, why spend 500.000 on a car when you can build one for 5000.... Also they were pretty sad losers, I remember the Hannah girl and her dad, not even wanting to talk to the winner of their race and standing there with a sad face like a child. Everytime a sleeper lost they had some excuse, oh my this and that didn't work, but had it worked I would have beaten aaaaaaaaallll of them... Really sore losers

The cars: The races are dragraces, and for me a dragrace isn't a race... this will cost me "likes"... A dragrace is driving in a straight line really fast, a race is bends and straights and driving with a strategy to overtake others. Knowing your cars limitations in corners and not just in a straight line. The "sleepers" are all finetuned for dragracing and the supercars are made to cruise around and occasionally be taken to a circuit for a real race. Yes most have launch control but that's to show of at the trafficlights. Mot supercarpeople hardly knew how that worked...

Also the word "sleeper" , a real sleeper is a fast car that doesn't look fast, but come on if I see an old piece of junk with a huge turbo sticking out of the hood sounding like a M1-Abrahams tank driving by I KNOW it's modified and fast. I think most of them aren't even street legal. Some are actual driving bombs.. Than the cost, some had put over 100.000 in an old car to make it go fast in a straight line and they talk trash about someone buying a fast car for the same amount of money??? How does that sound?? They forget that if you tune a stock supercar with extra turbo's and stuff those sleepers wouldn't stand a chance in hell.

The drama: There is a lot of boohoo in this show, first season more than the second. It can do with less of that, less of : "my gramdpa died 25 years ago so I'm building cars to forget" and all that stuff. My childhood was bad so I started racing...yawn yea we know Also the recurring theme about "female drivers".....really annoying and the worst thing it's the youngest ones that are complaining about it.. Come on it's 2018 and nobody is looking strange if they see a girl in a car, at least not in the USA, maybe in the middle-east... It's that instantly wanting to be an underdog, really annoying.

Overall: Overall it's nice to watch, but I ended up skipping a lot of the talk-scenes, beacuse I couldn't hear anymore sad stories about how someones dog died etc.

Fun to watch as a car-enthousiast and also as a drama-enthousiast

Lossers

Warning: Spoilers
I loved how in the last episode when the Lambo won, all the other guys stand there with their dicks in their hand talking about how toy could've beaten it and they could have done a 1000 different things to beat him, then do it instead of crying about it. 'If I had 4-wheel I could definitely have beaten the Lambo'

A bit played up
forrcorn14 August 2019
The show is about 40 minutes of talking and 30 seconds of racing. The owners of the cars talk about their ride and what they've done to it, but it seems very repetitive and drawn out. There's a lot of build up for 30 seconds of racing

Not bad, needs some work though...
syholl18 July 2019
Ok, it's a great idea, and they almost pulled it off, but there are a few problems. Firstly, a sleeper car is something that doesn't look like it's modified too much. Some of the cars were proper drag cars, virtually none of them were sleepers. Secondly, one race right at the end of each show?! Come on guys, you've gone to all this effort to get these cars to the track, let's see some more races. Thirdly, all the individual episodes were held on a tarmac runway, and then you hold the final on dirt!!!??? What the hell were you thinking??

Skip to the last 7 minutes if you only care about the race.
muaddib-916966 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously scripted, the thumbnails for every odd episode show the winner, drivers of the super cars aren't great except for 3 of them and the sleepers are all just drag cars. Each episode could literally be the last 10 minutes and you'd know every single person.

Overconfident talk, underperforming cars
conceptenigma-724-48178616 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
One glaring thing, the overconfident talk and stereotyping... One sleeper made a bunch of comments about the Lambo requiring soooooo much maintenance, meanwhile he was never not under the hood adding this or that... The other thing is that think no one expects a sleeper to perform, ummmmm I can hear the engine just like everyone one else, what would expect a car growling with drag or race tires to do???? I found it hilarious that the guy who was renting a Ferrari destroyed the overconfident sleeper... The overconfidence doesn't apply to all sleepers nor the supercar drivers... Decent show, all things considered...

The cover photo on season is a huge spoiler. It shows who's at the end every time I click on the show. If there's a season three, I hope they change that.

Fun show for car fans
natem-1741417 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Fun show for fans of cars that's a bit more heavy on the human drama. The one episode that irritated me was the one with the cowardly Aventador SV owner who deliberately started the race early. He knew he was going to be disqualified, he wasn't trying to cheat to win, he was just afraid of being humiliated by losing to a sleeper car so he threw the race, the piece of trash. Most of the other people on the show were okay.

Less sob story and more car please!
info-4703823 February 2019
Its a nice idea. Three sleepers against a Supercar in a 7-day build-up to a 4-car quarter mile drag race. There are some great (and surprising) cars, clever engineering, and the determined persistence of the participants to get that last drop of power to deliver on the day. However, the producers wring every bit of tear-jerking blah-yak out of the back stories, which makes for really painful viewing and keeps the skip button within thumbs reach. I'd like to see the same concept of program in a more serious form, that goes beyond this quasi-reality/drama genre of programming. There are exceptions, but be prepared, the majority of the Supercar drivers in the episodes are the most obnoxious, OTT, excessive characters I have had the misfortune to watch. I hope the concept gets re-hashed at some time in the future into a more palatable viewing experience.

Loved this show, watched it all in one day. The only downside was the false starts in some of the races but nevertheless very entertaining. Can't wait for season 2!

I like it.
raunojullinen12 January 2020
It's a great show. I love the stories behind the racers and the cars and almost every time the winning car surprises me. The episodes should have been a little longer to squeeze more footage of building the cars and racing. I enjoyed it. Supercars were boring.

A little disappointed
haydnkeepy17 January 2019
Spend 90% of the show talking about the people who build the cars, don't show them working on them much if at all, and then a 30 second race at the end. Was sort of hoping this would have more racing and putting cars together
