As a filmmaker, Matthew Vaughn seems incapable of taking the material he's working with seriously. It's a quality that's allowed him to carve out a niche as a specialist in deliberately irreverent genre fare like "Stardust" and "Kick-Ass" but made him a bit of a poor match for "X-Men: First Class". It can also make his "Kingsman" films pretty polarizing since they allow him to double-dip on his juvenile humor to the point of self-indulgence. In fact, the one time Vaughn tried to play things seriously with that franchise, the result was the tonally bizarre prequel "The King's Man."
This is all to say that Vaughn's abandoned "Superman" trilogy always seemed like an odd proposition. As he's talked about on many occasions over the years, Vaughn and his "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman" cohort, writer Mark Millar, approached Warner Bros. in 2008 in the hopes of convincing the studio to sign off on...

German metal singer Doro has shared a cover of the Judas Priest classic “Living After Midnight” featuring guest vocals from Priest frontman Rob Halford himself.
Considering the heavy metal pedigree of both singers — Doro as the frontwoman of the iconic German band Warlock in the ’80s and as a longstanding solo artist, and Halford as the Metal God — “Living After Midnight” comes as a natural choice for a cover version. It’s a confident and rebellious track, and the duo sings it with conviction. Obviously, Halford has performed the song countless times, but still sounds as triumphant as ever delivering the boastful lyrics alongside Doro.
“Judas Priest and Rob Halford have always been one of my biggest inspirations and continue to be my heroes,” remarked Doro in a press release. “It was so great working with Rob. ‘Living After Midnight’ has always been one of my favorite songs and I...

New allegations against Lizzo have come to light in the wake of the lawsuit filed by several of the “Truth Hurts” singer’s dancers.
Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison took to social media on Tuesday to share her alleged experiences with the 35-year-old musician while briefly working on her documentary.
Posting a photo of herself seemingly filming Lizzo on stage, Allison noted that she was sharing her experiences “because validating other Black women’s experiences is deeply important to me.”
“In 2019, I traveled a bit with Lizzo to be the director of her documentary. I walked away after about two weeks,” Allison claimed. “I was treated with such disrespect by her. I witnessed how arrogant, self-centred, and unkind she is.”
Calling the situation “s***ty,” Allison added, “My spirit said to run as fast as you f**king can and I’m so grateful I trusted my gut. I felt gas lit and was deeply hurt,...

Lizzo paid tribute to Tina Turner, who passed away May 24th, with a short rendition of “Proud Mary” during the Phoenix stop of her “Special” tour. During it, she gave a speech where she graciously regarded Turner as the reason she was able to take the stage in the first place.

Update: CNN cut away from Donald Trump’s post-arraignment at Mar-a-Lago shortly before it ended, with anchor Anderson Cooper calling it a “reprise of every grievance” by the former president.
Fox News carried the 25-minute speech, while MSNBC skipped it, with Rachel Maddow telling viewers that it was a rehash of his grievances of the past.
Trump’s speech was a bit of a test for the networks in how they will handle his presidential campaign, after criticism over the way that Trump’s rallies were given extensive, unfiltered airtime in the 2016 cycle compared to his GOP rivals. His speech tonight had the added justification of coming on the day of his unprecedented arrest and arraignment, but Maddow told viewers, “We don’t consider it newsworthy and there is a cost to us as a news organization of knowingly broadcasting untrue things.”

Numa Perrier is directing, from a script she wrote with Leigh Davenport. Producers on the project are Tommy Oliver and Codie Elaine Oliver for Confluential Films; Gabrielle Union for I’ll Have Another; Glendon Palmer for AGC Studios, and Jeff Morrone.

Caylee Hammack has turned her song “Small Town Hypocrite” into a collaborative number, adding singer extraordinaire Chris Stapleton to the mix for the new version. The original song appeared on Hammack’s 2020 album If It Wasn’t for You.
An autobiographical story about betrayal and crushed dreams, “Small Town Hypocrite” was a standout from a solid album on the strength of Hammack’s emotive voice and sharp songwriting. “Took all my plans and I put ‘em in a box/Phantom pains for the wings I lost,” she sings, chiding the ex who broke her heart.

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon opened today’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with an energetic rendition of “Dancing In The Streets,” strutting like Jagger on the barricaded, crowd-free New York City block. The comedian isn’t really much of a singer or a dancer, but then this really wasn’t much of a parade. In this pandemic year, we’ve learned to be thankful for what we get.
NBC’s three-hour event, broadcast live starting at 9 a.m. Et and re-aired in the afternoon, worked hard to provide some holiday tradition continuity, if not exactly normalcy, on this day when Americans are rightly being advised to skip the large family get-togethers and avoid travel through the woods, to grandmother’s house or anywhere else. The Macy’s parade typically winds a 2.5-mile course through Manhattan, with more than 3 million New Yorkers and tourists lining the route to get a...

“American Idol” just launched its 18th season and the third on ABC as host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan returned as judges. The two-premiere started with a voiceover by Ryan recounting what went down last season when Laine Hardy — who was previously eliminated on the show — staged an amazing comeback and won it all. As Ryan told us in his intro, “This bayou boy became the latest of ‘Idol’s’ rich legacy of stars with a career that has taken off.”
But then he swiftly changed the subject, saying, “But he wasn’t the only one to make it as we met a 24-year-old dishwasher from Pomona, California. Alejandro Aranda‘s audition was a once in a lifetime moment. It set a course for an irreversible trajectory.” We then saw clips of Alejandro taking his show on the road in the guise of ScaryPoolParty...
