Straight white guy here.

...who realises that this isn't propaganda. It's lifted directly from the comics and I'm amazed that they transferred it so incredibly well to the screen. Great script and performances throughout.

They keep doing an amazing job.

As someone who has not read these characters in their comic format, it amazes me how they consistently maintain the high quality level. Danny the street, as a character, is wonderfully adapted. They give us an epic and exciting karaoke scene. Definitely, I still fall in love with these characters. Looking forward to watch episode 9 of this amazing television series.

Wow. Look at the triggered snowflakes.

A drag queen's a person in your neighbourhood, and apparently including one in an episode (and a gender non-conforming street) has caused all the kids to go into convusions about "SJWs." Wow. It's a series about misfits... no heavy-handed theme, just a bit of joy and mood. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Incredible episode
tiagopeczenyj8 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a white, straight, cis-gender person, my first look on this episode is "wow, it is pretty fun". We have a non-binary queer STREET with intelligence, capable of teleport people, etc, and it works on TV.

But lets pay attention in the layers here.

Sometimes we can believe in aliens from another world who can fly and stop bullets. This is not so different than a sentient street. Not at all, if we keep our mind open and we understand that they work as symbols.

While Superman is a symbol of "Hero", of "Individualism", Danny the Street is quite the opposite. Danny does not fight crimes, Danny help misfits, outcasts, etc. And he just run a Cabare 24/7 where all people just enjoy. This is "Collectivism". None of those people cause any harm to the society, in fact is the opposite. Today we consume media, propaganda, movies where everyone is "perfect", with the right color, shape, behavior, etc. A small % of the society became the majority of the main characters in today's blockbusters. What if you are not like them? You can fell be less... normal... right? Now multiply movies with all sort of media broadcast, the cultural context, etc.

This subject is complex, tense, deep. Like Larry Trainor. Probably the most important LGBTQ+ character in TV based on Comics. He may have a glimpse of what is "be happy" when we dream about sing in front of all those people.

It is impossible, for me, fully understand some symbols, because I never had any problem related to my color or sexuality. But with ART we can taste different scenarios and open our mind to other people's problems.

And understand our role in all of this.

Of course, you may disagree with me. Perhaps the show was lame, or not fun at all. Or just "political". But today everything is political.

Now, magine how many people just need some kind of "danny street" to be happy or just... exists...

Amazing episode

My wife and I really loved this episode, especially the karaoke scene with Negative Man, which is just brilliant.

Reading the negative reviews calling this episode gay, LBGTQ or whatever propaganda shows to me that we need more of this on TV. To me it is quite simple: Every human being should be free to live the way they feel happy with. As long as nobody else is harmed it's nobody's business to be judgemental.

The karioky was amazing and the fact that it was all in his head shows how the show litterly filled with darkness and happiness is just a thought locked somwhere in head

The karaoke was amazing!!

I love the show from the start, maybe because i like weird, out of the ordinary shows and movies, but this episode was one of the best, what Larry sang, the lyrics sent chills down my spine. (And I think I liked the song because I grew up in Europe in the 90's and felt nostalgia) I usually don't write comments but this episode deserved one. :)

The odd continues ...

A fantastic continuation of the types of creativity sometimes lost to the comic media. It's not always about big fight but character exploration. And once again tapping it to doom patrols well of weird. Cant wait to see how they reimagine the rest of the oddity

I didn't know how much I needed a sentient, gender-queer, teleporting street until this episode! So much feels!❤

Some people just miss the point.

This episode is absolutely beautiful as is this show as a whole. If ever felt like a misfit or felt like you didn't belong. This is for you. There are people who say it's woke and too political but that's the point this episode is about being happy in your own skin and that doesn't make you abnormal or a monster. I would say to anyone facing identity troubles to give this a watch. It's a 10 on the musical number alone. It never fails to put a smile on my Face throughout.

Great character development.
rodrichomp8 May 2019
Larry is, obviously, at the spotlight, and it works perfectly. He has been really good at up to this point, and that streak continues in this episode. His fear is palpable. Cyborg also was a cool thing to push the Chief pursuit forward. I love that DC embraces the absolutely weird with this show, Danny the Street is so cheesy that I can´t help but smile. There were also some cool shots in this episode, good lighting too. It´s also a really needed break from the glim nature of robotman´s story, and it also paves the way for the arc of Crazy Jane. The only character who didn´t get any significant role was Rita, but that´s okay. It was a bit preachy, but overall, great stuff. So emotional.

Another unconventional episode. Delightfully bizar. With a serious undertone, but I fear it is wasted. The fact that it annoys some smallminded folks is a sweet bonus though. .

Original with a not so original street name

Enjoyable episode that wandered from the norm but was all the better for it. Danny the Street! - I can only assume this was a homage to the great drag artist Danny La Rue. This series doesn't do linear but it's a great series

Gender Patrol

An episode divided into two parts. They introduce a new thing that is connected with Larry's past. Very funny and crazy episode but with a moral lecture. More and more Niles' secrets without an answer but it keeps you intrigued With a great musical show protagonized by Larry

Fun and originality
lahilaastravnar28 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Original plot and funny story. The episode honours the Hero series, as Danny likes last season circus, that self teleport with all people. And the track for Niles that Danny gives to Cyborg is written in a comic like in Hero series.

The song in the pub is wonderful.

Karen is really fun, his actress extraordinary.

Hell did I just watch! I liked the first episode and endured the others, but this has gone totally off the rails. I can't even tell if this random fart is a mockery or an infomercial.

Honest Review
robertdlar6 September 2022
So I noticed the reviews are either 10 AMAZING or 1 Woke

Obviously some review bombing is going on, specially those who put 1 line review up. Some explained their reasons for their vote which is great, but TBH I have a hard time believing a 10 is a legit vote, and while I HAVE seen movies worthy of a '1' I am pretty confident they put the '1' vote to counter the '10' votes, which is fine. This is why it is important for MANY people to vote, to balance things out.

So on to what I consider an honest review of the episode. I understand that this is season 1 and the characters need to be 'developed' but asside from the parts with "Jane/Karen" the rest of the story was meaningless towards forwarding the plot or the show.

I don't want to use the word Woke because Marvel comics was adressing things like, homosexuality, abuse, drugs going back to the 60s and 70s, but I am old, and having lived in a big city I do not understand characters that are so prejudice towards gay or trans people. Back when I was in entertainment in the late 80s I worked with a troupe of female impersonators. I didn't have any problem with them and no one I know or worked with ever did. They were never nice people whether they were just guys, gay or trans, they were just people. Sure I guess there are idiots out there that still don't get it, but I feel like this issue is being made to appear worse than it is.

So I am giving this episode a 5 because only half of it was relevant to the show, and I did NOT tune into a Comic book TV show to watch a Musical.
