A very, very strong continuation.

David Balfour refuses to help his brother out following the kidnapping. Taggart takes on the kidnapping case, much to the annoyance of his boss.

There is just something about these early years, they may look a little dated, and appear a little raw in parts, but the story, plot and characters are all so engrossing. The long running time definitely allows great development in each of these areas.

There are so many characters, and therefore many possibilities, that may be the issue with some of the later, shorter episodes, the killer will either be a or b, here though, there are just so many potential suspects.

Jo Peebles, David Balfour, all of the characters are so rich. Peter has definitely developed, he does a little bit of criminal profiling here.

Mark McManus shines from start to finish, that rugged face and harsh delivery are absolutely perfect, the show was made for him, he's genuinely impressive.

Maureen Beattie has the most incredible eyes, such a good actress, you can't help but notice them.

8/10.
