2024 has been an unusual year for music breakouts. While we’ve seen a number of new artists hit the charts for the first or second time, a lot of them could potentially veer into one-hit wonder territory — where they as artists aren’t as prominent as the songs they managed to hit it big with. Looking ahead to the upcoming Grammys, this is quite an issue in the Best New Artist category, where the academy often snubs perceived one-hit wonders in favor of acts who have already demonstrated some staying power. There’s one artist, though, who has moved the public conversation this year with her breakthrough — if she’s eligible for the award.

Sabrina Carpenter’s give-a-fucks are fresh off the plane back from the vacation. In April, she sent them on their merry way while she basked in the sun on “Espresso.” But on the latest single from her recently-announced studio album Short n’ Sweet, “Please Please Please,” the singer and songwriter is trying her best to hold onto that serenity, pleading: “Please, please, please/Don’t bring me to tears/When I just did my makeup so nice.”
In the video, Carpenter picks back up where she left off with “Espresso,...

Sabrina Carpenter has written dozens of songs. However, she said one piece of music told her life story. The track has a bit of a dark undercurrent. Interestingly, the tune is part of a genre that many casual fans associate with Justin Bieber.
Sabrina Carpenter’s life story is very different from a Disney movie
During a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue, Carpenter created a playlist of the tunes that defined her life. The playlist included classic tracks by The Carpenters, The Beatles, Christina Aguilera, Abba, Etta James, Skeeter Davis, and Santana, as well as one of Carpenter’s own songs: “Almost Love.” Many artists have created playlists for Teen Vogue, but Carpenter broke the rules by including one of her own songs. That’s fine because the best artists break the rules and Carpenter gave fans a lot of insight into her life when she spoke about “Almost Love.”

All those nights that Sabrina Carpenter spent working late (’cause she’s a singer) have paid off: Short n’ Sweet, her forthcoming studio album, is set for release on Aug. 23.
“This project is quite special to me and I hope it’ll be something special to you too,” Carpenter wrote on social media while simultaneously unveiling the album title, artwork, and release date. In the front cover art, blonde hair tumbles down her back and sunlight glimmers off a spot on her shoulder just above a bright red lipstick kiss mark.

Coi Leray has dropped a new single, “Wanna Come Thru.” The sultry track, produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, marks her first release for new label Island Records.
“This song is about me on my grown and sexy,” Leray explained in a statement. “Grown and sexy means being so in love with yourself — that it is one of the most sexiest, maturest, grownest things that a woman can do. As you get older and you tap into your womanhood and your femininity and I feel like you should embrace that.
