The whole movie is about the importance of language used to teach kids. The movie is rich with kannada epic comedy dialogues amazingly delivered by young actors. It fills your heart with all the emotions of love, sadness, humour and anger. 100% family entertainer! Wont regret it for sure if you choose to spend your weekend evening with this movie.

Finally watched the movie , Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale Kasaragod
The school and its surroundings, the friends and growing up in a clutter free happy time thats shown in the movie is close to heart to every middle class Kannadiga in his/her thirties now.
I grew up in Bangalore all my childhood and I have time and again dreamt of living in a smaller city. I was friends with two sisters who had moved from Mysore and joined the high school where I studied, who were in awe with everything that Bangalore offered to them. This is the sweet spot that the movie will take you back to.. You may not be able to define it, but you will live it with full energy; laugh and cry through the length of it.
A liberal amount of space and time in the movie is taken up to show the cultural celebrations and art forms of South Canara and Kerala. No complains. It was refreshing.
We have all asked our friends or our school mates or our colleagues , or our bosses , or our juniors someday while sipping tea in some road side tea stall , "what language do you use to talk to yourself?" "What language do you dream in?" and left the topic with some self criticism or some odd joke. Sarkari Hiriya Pratamika Shale, Kasargodu is a movie that Rishab Shetty made , probably when those questions occurred to him :)

Masterpiece! Awesome movie!

In a time where masala movies dominate the film industry, Rishab shetty delivers a movie that is full of genuine humour, social issues and linguistic discrimination.
This movie makes you laugh and smile till the end. The highlight of the movie are the kids who were like part of the story instead of acting like they were in a one. The comic timing of everyone in the movie was mind-blowing. This movie takes you back to the good old school days, particularly a scene where the class monitor writes the name of the students who misbehaves when teacher is not in the classroom was nostalgic. This movie remains faithful to the subject till the end.
Anant nag proves once again that he is an excellent actor. His monologue in the climax of the movie was thought provoking. My personal favourite character of the movie was "mammootty".
This is the funniest movie I have watched in a long time.

This is a good movie. Please watch it... It has new promising actors, Pramod Shetty, Prakash Thuminad, All the child characters have done justice. The direction has been apt. Narration has lagged a bit just before the interval. Otherwise can be said a awesome Kannada Cinema. Wish the crew congratulations for the movie and waiting for its 100 days celebration during the Kannada Rajyothsava..

A true classic
hvyashbhat15 September 2018
In the age of so called mass movies, S.H.P.S.K is the giant classic movie with a blend of history, drama and reality! Rishab Shetty is no doubt skilled as we saw in his Ricky, Kirik Party and not to forget his role in Ulidavaru Kandanthe. With S.H.P.S.K though, he seems to have a prowess to awaken the heart of a fellow Kannadiga. Veteran and ever glowing Anant Nag as always, justifies his role perfectly. But it is the kids - the innocence, the vulnerability and the natural enaction that makes this movie close to reality.
The key point that makes this movie a classic is the attention to natural intrinsic details, the cultural references and music. May it be authentic accents, the dance forms - Yakshagana and Huli Vesha(Pilivesha) or the catchy songs exploring the Kannada. Where was this guy Vasuki all the while. This right combination is what I think makes this movie bigger than the likes of this generation classics like, Rangitaranga.
Before today, we knew little about the story of Kasargodu. Why aren't we involved in their struggle. Probably it is a wakeup call for all Kannadigas to unite. Kodagina Pravaha, Mahadayi, Kaveri - Uttara,Dakshina,Poorva,Pashchima - every Kannadiga's struggle needs to be carried shoulder to shoulder. Namma Thana, Namma Jana, Namma Nadu - Karunadu, Kannada <3

A Normal School Story With A Serious Concept Within it
kirikminchu24 August 2018
The fight for the inclusion of Kasargodu in Karnataka is raging from the time it was included in the Kerala in the year 1956. And In the recent times, the closing of Kannada Government Schools in Karnataka is also a big issue.
Director Rishabh Shetty merges these two things and he makes an excellent story. Saving A Kannada School In the State Of Kerala (Kasargod). The First Half Revolves around the environment of the school, its students and the little things which take place. Just Before the second half, the story opens up. The Climax becomes a bit loose as the important clue of it, has been given in the trailer, Otherwise a good film... Each and Every Character is crafted very well and have not been built up because of any pressure... This makes the film a bit different from other films about the same plot....
Awesome movie

Good performances, but film tries to be everything
avsharath2 September 2018
This has good actors and characters. But somehow the film is kind of all over the place. Sometimes it gets into serious drama mode, then moves to comedy, then tries to be kind of dance & musical etc.
Director seemed to have tried to put everything into the film to win the audience, instead of making it focus on few core things.
Not a good watch

Heart touching!!!

A beautiful work by Rishab shetty of Kirrick party fame. Its wonderful how he could deliver such a delicate message so humanely...All the actors live the character to the fullest...The highlight of the movie is usage of local kasargod dialect and most oft he actors are from kasargod and surrounding region
A must watch, please do see!!!
I totally fell in love with this wonderful movie

I totally fell in love with this wonderful movie. Right from the cinematography to the dialogues to the jokes to the wonderful scenes, this is a movie one must not skip. And the perfect Mangalore Kannada. Not many movies have this Kannada and if you understand this style of the wonderful language, it's an added bonus. Direction by Rishab Shetty is perfect.
The story is beautifully made. I won't spoil the movie. All the actors have performed their best and Ananth sir's performance too was fabulous.

An inspiring take on the state of Kannada in Kasargod
ConfusedRoulette23 December 2018
The film shows the life of children studying in a Kannada medium school in Kasargod in Kerala, which was once part of Karnataka. How will these children save their beloved Kannada school from closing down permanently by a cruel Malayali officer and the government & politics? The struggle and the peculiar way in which veteran actor Anant Nag saves this school, is shown vividly in the movie. The cheerful nature and the innocence of the children is also a treat to watch. There are many comedy sequences also which will keep you laughing throughout the movie. Though the film loses a bit of track after the interval, it's the introduction of Anant Nag's character and his antics which brings this movie alive till the end with a rousing climax, sure to give you goosebumps! The cinematography, the catchy songs, the film's hero Praveena's cute love story, the typical coastal Kannada accent spoken in the film, especially by the children and the typical village life people lead in Kasargod is shown brilliantly through the camera lens. All in all, director Rishab Shetty has created a wonderful film that every coastal Kannadiga will watch and enjoy!
Such a lovely movie!

This is one of my favorite movies! I just love the story line and the message conveyed in the movie. Due to big private schools, the Government schools are diminishing. Also due to language barrier, the school kids are getting affected. Kudos to the Director, cinematography, complete set of actors and special thanks to "Anantnag" who is just awesome.
Lots of cinematography mistakes and details
pradeepmangalore24 April 2020
I wonder how this movie rated 8.7 .
I found so many mistakes it was hurting me till end. Am not a brilliant in this but this what I found. 1.cinemtography- camera framing, camera rotation , when rotating the camera bit multiple layers on the object ( may be camera and lens problem)for a second. Shaking footages. 2.details- the cinema shows the old period(2007) by showing old camera ,ambasador, but I seen new vehicles new cars new ,bikes(ns,hornet, activa etc) and very old (1994) Malayalam cinema new posters. Also police jeep stickering, court makeover it wasn't not great to see in the frame I felt it's a short film some time.(ex. Judge background was a curtain, accused platform I could see green jointer like this so many...) 3. Casting- once watch you gonna understand. 4. Background score and some songs- in many places I felt they shouldn't have play this track. I said this because I want more cinema like this without any basic mistakes.
I always love Kannada ,Karnataka also Malayalam.
