Salacious & Faltering
The sophomore outing of The Cool Kids faltered a bit compared to its pilot episode. Per the title, Vicki Lawrence's character turns 65; and her new buddies are determined that she have a good time whether she wants it or not. The characters think and talk and indulge in sex and alcohol for the duration of the episode (or at least try to depending on who and what...), and it wears thin in the humor department. The show has already shown that it is at its best when it stays more centered on the real concerns and experiences of its seasoned cast of characters. Even the most ridiculous behavior can be identified with (and enjoyed) when it is attached to a kernel of truth in the human existence; and the best bits of Margaret Turns 65 are no different. You just have to wade through the salacious pandering to enjoy the real and funny moments.
