Adam Pally is way more than just Happy Endings‘ Max Blum. Yes, we adore him for the three seasons of perfect comedy that ABC took away from us and the fact that he gave TV its first openly gay character who ate carbs, loved sports and had no shame gene. He followed that up with a bro-y stint on The Mindy Project and since then, he’s amassed a slew of fascinating, even unexpected gigs of note, from the hilarious adult animation of Hulu’s Crossing Swords to appearances in Iron Man 3 and the Sonic the Hedgehog movies to the fantastic indie flicks Most Likely to Murder and Band Aid. Hell, he even had an uncredited cameo in The Mandalorian as the Imperial Scout Trooper who punched a kidnapped Baby Yoda. At the same time, the streetwear-savvy comic has also expanded into the world of shoe design through a partnership with luxury brand Easymocs,...

Since 1979, the TV academy has honored the field of animation by awarding the Best Animated Program Emmy on an annual basis. In its current form, this primetime category allows submissions targeted at audiences aged 13 and above, with series and specials made for younger viewers being relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys. Since the creation of a separate short form category in 2008, submissions here have also been required to have runtimes in excess of 15 minutes.
The 2022 Best Animated Program ballot list below consists of 42 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their dozenth victory and first since 2019 is the team behind “The Simpsons,” who just wrapped their 33rd season. Other shows hoping for repeat wins this year include “Archer,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Rick and Morty,” and “South Park.”

Hulu's stop motion animated adult comedy "Crossing Swords" is back for a second season, premiering on the streamer on December 10, 2021. The series is a foul-mouthed and violent take on fantasy fiction, full of sex jokes, decapitations, and drug use. Oh, and the characters are all wooden peg toys.
"Crossing Swords" follows young peg squire Patrick (voiced by "The Great" star Nicholas Hoult) after he begins working for King Merriman. The good-hearted, virginal Patrick is one of the only decent people in all of this little peg world, and his three siblings are some of the worst...

Crossing Swords Stars Yvette Nicole Brown And Luke Evans Delight In Their Dirty Dialogue [Interview]
"Crossing Swords," Hulu's show about a fantastical world of children's toys who say and do very adult things, has debuted its second season. The series follows young squire Patrick (voiced by Nicholas Hoult) as he tries to survive squiring for the awful King Merriman (Luke Evans) while under the "tutelage" of Sergeant Meghan (Yvette Nicole Brown), a drill sergeant who would rather be home with her kids.
To celebrate the return of the show, I had a chance to sit down via Zoom with Brown and Evans, who delighted at the chance to talk about the very dirty things these little wooden toys have to say.

"Crossing Swords" creators John Havartine IV, Tom Root, and Seth Green are no strangers to stop-motion mayhem, but the medieval Hulu comedy is definitely a new realm of insanity for them to play in. The creators, who are best known for their work on the long-running Adult Swim series "Robot Chicken," created a show about the lives of some very unfortunate peg people, something like "Toy Story" if it were made by sadists. The first season followed the adventures of Patrick ("The Great" star Nicholas Hoult), a lowly squire who gets caught up in loads of medieval mischief. His adventures are full of vulgar language, grotesque...

Marvel has had a successful run of TV dramas on Disney+ including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki.
But could the comic book giant broaden its output across the Disney family with more series on sister platform Hulu? That’s certainly the intimation from Hulu head of scripted content Jordan Helman.
The streamer’s most recent Marvel live-action series Helstrom was canceled after one season and two of the four planned animated series – Howard The Duck and Tigra & Dazzler – did not move forward.
But Helman told Deadline, “Marvel continues to be an incredibly important partner and one of the biggest generators of content within the Disney ecosystem so we’re excited about the possibility of what may lie in the future with regards to the Hulu/Marvel relationship.”

In the wake of the pandemic, shows have gotten inventive, many eschewing actors entirely in favor of finding unique ways to tell stories with animated methods. Case in point: the upcoming AMC+ series “Ultra City Smiths,” which released its first trailer below and looks to be a fun / bizarre, murder-mystery told with stop-motion animation and baby dolls.
The plot synopsis per AMC:
From AMC Studios and created by Steve Conrad and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios “Ultra City Smiths” unfolds via the stop-motion animation of baby dolls repurposed as a grown-up cast of characters. The series hinges on an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of fictional metropolis Ultra City’s most famous magnate (Smith).
Two intrepid detectives (Jimmi Simpson and Da’Vine Joy Randolph) follow the case, rallying to fight against their city’s dangerous corruption, at a high cost to themselves and their families, all in pursuit of a gentler place to call home.

Animaniacs is set to break free from a decades-long purgatory in the Warner Bros. Water Tower, thanks to the impending arrival of a Hulu reboot series, which now has a solid release date.
Hulu has officially announced that the new Animaniacs will premiere on its platform on Friday, November 20. The series, a production of Hulu, Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation, will launch with 13 episodes, showcasing the rebooted adventures of Warner siblings Yakko, Wakko and Dot in a return that’s 22 years in the making, reinventing the classic 1993-1998 animated series and its concluding 1999 direct-to-video feature, Yakko’s Wish. Given Hulu’s officially released image of the Warners (as seen in the title image), the series appears to be sticking to a classic look.
Interestingly enough, Hulu’s announcement for the inaugural season of its rebooted Animaniacs comes with the news that series has been preemptively renewed for a 13-episode second season.

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Friday, July 24. The highlights are below.
The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.
In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.
Friday’s events include panels for all three of AMC’s “Walking Dead” series, Hulu’s new Marvel series “Helstrom,” and creatives like Charlize Theron, Joss Whedon, and Robert Kirkman.
The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 — is being announced daily through Sunday.
All times are Pacific Daylight.

Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories are hoping to shoot Nine Perfect Strangers, a Hulu-commissioned series based on Liane Moriarty’s latest novel, in northern Nsw.
That is contingent on Border Force granting exemptions on travel restrictions to Kidman’s co-stars including Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Manny Jacinto and Melvin Gregg, plus other key creatives.
There is a production office in Byron Bay and a shoot of at least 20 weeks, which would employ a large number of Australian crew and some supporting actors, is planned – pending Border Force’s approval on visas. It’s believed a lot of the crew will be sourced from Melbourne, which is in lockdown for six weeks.
Variety broke the news of the Australian shoot in an interview with Evans, who said: “We all have to be quarantined in a hotel room. I can’t see anyone for two weeks.

When “The Simpsons” premiered in 1989, it was an outlier. Animated shows in primetime were by no means unprecedented — “The Flintstones” broke that barrier in the ’60s — but never before had an animated series aimed at adults resonated so powerfully or had as significant an impact on a network as “The Simpsons” did for Fox. Three decades later, though, such series are having their moment in a big way.
Mike Moon, head of adult animation at Netflix, began his career as an artist on “The Simpsons.” What he’s seen in the years since has been a blossoming of adult animation on U.S. television.
“Adult animation [over] the last 25 years has been a really incredible story,” says Moon, who charts the format’s growth through shows such as “The Simpsons,” Comedy Central’s “South Park,” Fox’s “Family Guy” and Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman,” to a recent crop of new shows.

A squire’s job never ends and young Patrick is set to pick up his sword again soon.
Hulu has renewed animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords for season 2, according to Variety. The renewal comes just under a week after the first season consisting of 10 episodes premiered on June 12. The show’s second season will receive a 10-episode order as well. Like most streaming services, Hulu does not make its viewership data publicly available but the company must have found something it liked in Crossing Swords’ numbers. The streamer released a brief teaser to celebrate the show’s renewal.
Crossing Swords comes from John Harvatine IV and Tom Root, who were previously best known for their work on Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken. The adult animated series follows the adventures of young squire Patrick (Nicholas Hoult) as he works under a king no one particularly likes in a kingdom where no one is particularly happy.

No need to boot up the “Retrace-Your-Step-Alizer”, Solar Opposites is coming back.
Hulu has ordered Solar Opposites season 3, according to Variety. Solar Opposites season 2 had already previously been confirmed when Hulu confirmed the series for a two-season, 16 episode order. The first batch of those 16 episodes premiered with the eight-episode season 1 on May 8, 2020. Solar Opposites season 3 will consist of 12 episodes and does yet have a release date announced.
Created by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and writer Mike McMahan, Solar Opposites occupies a similar animated sci-fi comedy universe as its Morty-ian forefather. The show follows two aliens Korvo (Roiland) and Terry (Thomas Middleditch); their child-like “replicants” Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) and Jesse (Mary Mack), and of course: their Pupa (Sagan McMahan….and Liev Schreiber briefly).
The show follows these alien “Schlorpians” after they escape the destruction of their planet and begin new, charmingly mundane lives on Earth. Through season 1’s eight episodes,...
