Getting Interesting
Drank2226 September 2019
Definitely an improvement from the premiere. Added a lot of mystery which I think the first episode was lacking. If all of the newly introduced plot points get explained by the end and don't get too convoluted, they should make for an exciting/unique season. Performances by the actors were a lot better, with a special shout out to Leslie Grossman. Thought she was terrific this episode. This season is definitely not taking any breaks as we're already knee deep in gore and mayhem two episodes in. Excited to unravel the mysteries and see what happens next week

Another strong episode!

This season has been great so far! We learned so much this episode. There was plenty of 'edge of your seat' moments and you can really feel how intense the story is progressing. I am thoroughly impressed with the first 2 episodes of this season and I anticipate even better episodes ahead!! This episode gets a solid 9 out of 10 stars from me :)

Such a great episode, quite thrilling and intriguing! Deserves all the praise it's getting and AHS is so well done, especially the fact that it's still going strong this long. Soundtrack and acting is the bomb-diggity; Cody Fern is gold.

Gets more awesome

Warning: Spoilers
While the 1984 premiere set the stage, this second episode gets the party started. Not wasting any time, the writers get deep and dig into several character backstories in "Mr. Jingles." As much as I loved the premiere, it did have that stigma of having a ton of tropes and references to the 80s. But this episode reminded me of Season 1 of Stranger Things, where the 80s was just a backdrop for a brilliantly constructed story. And the story being built in Episode 2 is brilliant!

This episode features several brutal backstories and stellar acting that fleshes out the characters more. In particular, Emma Roberts and Leslie Grossman were phenomenal in this one. Roberts is simply blowing my mind with her incredibly persuasive performance as the sweet and innocent Brooke. If she keeps this up, she could conceivably be up for some awards for this season. And Grossman really ups her game in this episode bringing more depth to camp owner Margaret. There are also moments of very welcome and perfectly timed humor.

The narrative already has a bunch of subplots that somehow feel coherent and convergent, like the Season 9 writers have put a ton of thought into it. Season 9 of AHS is shaping up to be one of the best shows of 2019!

Freddy vs Jason
Foxbarking26 September 2019
Okay, these first two episodes have been brilliant. I mean, they have captured 80s slashers perfectly. I am wondering if they are trying to move towards a Night Stalker vs Mr. Jingles confrontation?

I am not sure, but this has been excellent. These are the movies I grew up on and which gave me my love for horror. Perfection.

Mr. Jingles

Warning: Spoilers
After a strong season premiere AHS went off the rails here. They may have already run out of things to parody and the storytelling just felt off.

A good cliffhanger, but just a bit of a drag for the whole episode. Not sure how they can stretch this out for an entire season either.

What a Twist!
rebsothoth26 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's unimaginable that this season could get this exciting so early on! I had been expecting a slow burn following the plot lines of 80s slasher flicks more closely, but there were so many twists in this episode that I'm not sure what's going to happen next. Zach Villa is both menacing and sympathetic as Richard Ramirez, and Cody Fern really showed his acting chops, at least as far as "freaking out" goes. I'm more frightened of Leslie Grossman than anyone else at this point, with her disturbing take on religion. I wasn't expecting the deaths, and certainly wasn't expecting the... um... non-deaths, either. If the season keeps up like this, there's no telling where it will end up!

Misleading Title
unpersona30 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I genuinely don't understand why this episode was titled "Mr. Jingles" when it focused on backstory from pretty much everything but him.

The episode was pretty eventful but it felt too short. I was expecting it to go on for another 15 minutes when it ended on a cliffhanger.

The pilot was better in my opinion, and the trailer for the third episode does not excite me much either. That could be because of the fact that it's still set at night. I'm not used to watching a TV show set over the course of one night, which is a cool concept but it kind of needs something to make each episode distinct from the last one.

This is more than just a slasher!
bingepulse-0629326 September 2019
This is more than just a slasher! I was honestly a bit skeptical when I saw that they were going to make a slasher themed American horror story. How many episodes can you make with a simple plot of teenagers at a council camp getting slashed one by one? Well we find out in this episode. We see a flashback on Emma Roberts character that heightens her character's fear of being killed. The character Margaret is a bit crazier than expected especially between her and Richard. This episode definitely got my attention. And we learned one thing, this is more than just a camp.

Getting a bit disappointed. First episode was willing a lot more and now it looks like simple killing episode? No mystery, nothing complex , just too basic for me.

Dumb fun

4 out of 5 stars.

Episode continues with the young adults being stalked by a killer. Characters makes dumb decisions. The series tries to step away from being serious and have plenty of dumb fun.

It's A Nice Day For A....White Wedding.
wandernn1-81-68327419 August 2021
Oh yeah!!! What a great Wedding!!!! +1 Star.

Richard Ramirez!!! Yeah! +1 Star.

Is Richard Ramirez Mr. Jingles? Inquiring minds want to know.

The bad thing is it looks like we're in the middle of some time loop thing again, or some kind of time anomaly. That really didn't go well last season.

7/10.

It's so bad, although might be entertaining if drunk
saltyzip27 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are no positives about this season at all. It's a low budget slasher with unbelievable and idiotic story line and poor acting. There are now two crazy killers running around in the middle of the night, although sometimes the effect lighting makes it look like morning has broken. A previous murdered kid at the camp, returns as ghost, gets killed, comes back, gets killed again, comes back and meets grown up version of his camp mate, who his now camp owner. This show is bonkers!

The slasher genre is alive and well.
chris_hindlaugh28 September 2019
Loved this episode!!! It threw a few twists and turns and paid homage to the genre so well. Can't wait to see where this all goes, hopefully it doesn't turn out ridiculous.

Loving it!

I have so many theories as to what can be going on at Camp Redwood and I cannot wait for next week's episode. The character backstories were a highlight for this episode, particularly Brooke's. Cody Fern did a fantastic job this episode as well. The cliffhanger ending was excellent.

S9.E2 - The Two Killers [9/10]
panagiotis199313 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S9. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 9 Episode 2 ''Mr. Jingles''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Margaret really thinks that she can kill Mr. Jingles? Wow Brooke's wedding was an absolute disaster, I feel bad for her. Ramirez is back, oh yeah. This guy dies and then comes back, is he a ghost? So in this episode we have both Ramirez and Mr. Jingles. I would love to see these two fight each other. This episode has thrills and was very entertaining. Overall this episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 9/10.

Bad dialogue and dumb decisions by the characters.
JoshHP28 September 2019
How does the network even approve this? This is a cheesy slasher movie that you skip in theaters and watch years later. How can they screw up such a good premise.

It... just... gets... worse
boris_unanimate6 December 2019
Again, clichè after clichè. Bad acting in surpluss. Emma Roberts is annoying non-stop. This show is filled with the most unoriginal tropes and terrible writing. Seeing an infamous serial killer drink coffee and talk about 'God' like he's on Oprah was just too much . It just keeps getting worse with each moment and each new scene. It keeps beating you over the head with constant exposition because its target audience isn't very bright.

I don't know what braindeads find this amusing or a good show. This is the bottom of the barrel. Somebody saw a Best Of 1980s Slasher tropes video and decided to make a show based on that video. If you want a good 80s slasher homage with great humor, either watch Season 1 of Stranger Things, or The Final Girls (which it shamelessly rips off in the worst possible way). This is a waste of time if you have any brains. Or any standards

If you're a true fan of 80's horror, steer clear.
aloysius_predato19 February 2021
What's so frustrating is that this could have been the best season by far, blown the lid off of this show, pulled out all the stops, and catered to everyone, but they couldn't do it. I should have known as much, judging from the writers and directors who previously worked with "Glee," "9-1-1," or other shows that fail to fit what AHS goes in for. As Biden might say, "Come on, man."

Fans of VHS horror, what this is to us is a clandestine slap in the face. The cast and crew hate heterosexual men that still possess a pair, and they lure us into this season just to kick said pair hard and tell us to go back to mommy's basement, or some other misandristic cliche that belongs in this season's terrible script. This episode is meant as revenge on "toxic" males who actually enjoyed 80's horror.

This terrible production does to 80's horror what Rian Johnson did to Luke Skywalker. I'm not watching another episode.

Instead of this, watch actual 80's horror, untainted by the ugly flavors of the day. "Hell High," "Edge of the Axe," "The Burning," "Body Count," "Hello, Mary Lou (Prom Night II)," "Superstition," and "The Incubus." Taste the real thing, not some cheap knockoff.

If you like terrible production value or need to feel validated for perceived slights, by all means, continue to watch this $#!t.
