Perhaps no greater summary of the time spent in the world of the duology of steampunk original anime films that is Kurayukaba and Kuramerukagari came from the post-screening greeting at the Niigata International Animation Film Festival: After a suspenseful mystery through the underground of this unusual world, out comes the director in an outfit that would look at home in the film’s shady black market… apprehended by the film’s producer, Yoshida Shinnosuke, wearing a giant mask of the Laughing Mask vigilante group. The Kurayukaba and Kuramerukagari duology is a decade’s culmination of work for independent creator/director Shigeyoshi Tsukahara. The films comes after toiling away at original short animated projects for seven years until a successful crowdfunding project pushed the idea from a dream and concept phase to the films we see today. Fast forward three years and Kurayukaba premiered and won the award for Best Animated Feature at Fantasia in Canada.

Studio Mappa, which has brought us such hits as Terror in Resonance, Yuri!!! on Ice, In This Corner of the World, Kakegurui, Banana Fish, Zombie Land Saga, Dorohedoro, The God of High School, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Vinland Saga Season 2, Chainsaw Man, and Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, has announced a completely new, original anime series titled Zenshu, which is going to be released at an undisclosed date in the future.
Mappa has decided to tackle the rom-com genre but from a meta-perspective: namely, the main character, Natsuko Hirose, is a genius anime creator, but she now has to tackle a project that will prove to be a challenge for her. Namely, she has to create a rom-com anime herself, but the problem is that she herself has never been in love before, which makes her job all the more difficult. The first poster for the film was also released,...

Netflix is getting into the "Pokémon" business in a pretty interesting way. The streaming service has debuted the first trailer for a brand new series entitled "Pokémon Concierge" which marks not only the first collaboration between Netflix and The Pokémon Company, but it's also the first stop-motion animated series in the history of the franchise. See what that looks like for yourself in the trailer above.
The trailer is, in a word, adorable. There is absolutely a version of the Pokémon universe that is a little gritty and horrifying. After all, many of these are very dangerous animals. This is the polar opposite of that version, with all of the many familiar creatures just trying to relax and looking rather cuddly. Surprisingly, we've never seen the series take the stop-motion approach before having now seen it, as it looks very natural. The brief logline for the series reads as follows:...
