Combination of a generic plot and terrible acting
greenmangreat13 March 2020
Story is as unoriginal as can be. Same ol' spirit stuck in limbo that needs to do something before they can go to the afterlife.

I mean, the premise may not be new, but what ruins it this episode completely is an extremely untalented cast. Not one of the actors delivered a convincing performance. Everything felt so forced, and the actors delivered their lines as if they were reading from a prompter. And the addition of romance was just a horrible, horrible choice that made zero sense.

Terrible follow up to a strong first episode really.

Embarrassingly Bad.

I don't normally write negative reviews but oh my god that was an abomination. The acting was truly awful. I couldn't understand what they were saying half of the time. The ending blew all of our minds and not in a good way. I can't believe Steven Spielberg has put his name to this. Episode - I also hated (although my family liked it) but there wasn't a person in our lounge room who enjoyed this. I know you're probably going to watch it anyway so um...make sure you've got some nice snacks at least.

Poor acting old story
ayallop13 March 2020
This has been done so many times!

The acting and effects were diabolical, really poor.

Slow and dragged out, not the usual Amazing Stories level of quality viewing.

What is it?

Warning: Spoilers
The writers can't seem to make up their mind what this episode is about; i.e., is it a remake of Ghost with a lesbian twist, is it a coming out story, is it a commentary on gang violence, etc.? It was so slow in parts I kept hitting the 10 second fast forward throughout. It appears Amblin Entertainment is on autopilot cranking out movie of the week type garbage for the streaming services.

Predictable
cziccare13 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Who was the target audience here? Other people who run in the middle of busyish streets during the day? Not very surprising when someone dies because they didn't look both ways. This episode was more of a frustrating commentary on the sheer contrariness of the younger generation than anything else.

Ridiculous garbage. Had this been the first episode in this resurrected series, I'd have kicked the dirt back on it. What a waste of an hour.

No no no...

I loved the first episode. It was really beautiful. This episode however was awful! I love to watch stories of the afterlife so I don't care that it's not original and was done before. I do need however to care about the characters. I need to feel their love, their pain, their confusion. They have to be convincing and real. They didn't! Nothing about these two felt real. The acting was over the top, the romance part was totally misplaced and honestly the whole thing was just plain awful. Very very disappointing!!!

This is the best they can do? Really???
Badge15 March 2020
For a show that's only got 5 episodes out of the gate, the most Amazing thing is that this drawn-out-to-nearly-an-hour cliched pap was turned into a TV episode at all. There HAVE to be better scripts than this available.

10 minutes into the show I gave up trying to understand what they were saying when I realized it was the scriptwriter's way of covering up for the fact that they had nothing to say at all.

Horrible, absolutely horrible!
dennisholck15 March 2020
First episode was so so, but opted for the next episode to be better, but boy was I wrong :( First episode had decent acting and a mediocre storyline / execution, but this episode oh man was a lot worse in every way... Acting was bad as in real bad and the storyline was an abysmal mess of rehashed ideas done a million times before :( That's it Iam not going to be watching any more of the disappointing reboot of a great series, a big misstep from Apple and Spielberg...

It was ok...
eclarkdog14 March 2020
I liked the story of the first episode better - it was just more engaging and faster paced.. Unlike many other reviews here, I thought acting by the two main actresses here was very good. (I did not care for the actress in Episode 1 honestly). Maybe the problem is the acting by the secondary characters is average to poor for the most part - same for the first episode. But as someone whose old enough to remember the old version of Amazing Stories, it was basically the same deal as now. Strong leads and the rest was average at best.

I think both the lead actress here are in for better things.

Anyway, I do think the pay off here was a bit disappointing if still a bit twisty like most AZ stories are. Even the first story lead to where you did not expect in a bittersweet way. It was not the ultimate subject matter itself but rather that it seemed to brush over lightly said subject matter. The last line of the piece was excruciatingly lame.

Ha..and yep..some of the dialogue was a bit hard to decipher. Some sort of hood speak, but really the few lines like that weren't all that pertinent to the story to matter. .

Story about a dead person having unfinished business has been done a thousand times. Acting is terrible, directing is a joke. Looks like an art project made by highschoolers.

Touching and well acted - don't believe the haters
jonnycool-116 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, I feel sorry for the people who have nothing better to do than to give this episode one star. I was touched and well entertained, others will be less so, but giving this episode one star is just not a fair rating. Oviously, some people still feel triggered by seeing things on TV that don't fit in their worldview. Watching 50 minutes that are centered around two black girls - that's too much for people who will otherwise be very quick to call others snowflakes etc. To claim that the acting was "horrible" is just wrong, this episode features a lot of fresh and talented actors.

Average at best, not as bad as the 1 star review critics make it out to be.
mrs_anthony11 April 2020
Maybe it's because I don't have the expectations of others who've seen the original Amazing Stories or Ghost for that matter, but I enjoyed the story and the acting. I'm not someone who thinks if it's not really good it's bad. Just watch it with no expectations.

Terrible acting and twist makes no sense
Vladi7117 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What a terrible episode of television. As other reviews have stated: Yes it's an unoriginal story. Yes it's pandering. Yes the acting is atrocious. But the worst part is the twist ending that makes zero sense. Tuka wakes up on the street and it's all been in her head apparently... but she still got hit by the car and is perfectly fine?! Ummm what?! She just stands up and walks off as if she never got smoked by a car. So. Dumb.

It's a Bad Bad Bad Bad episode
elvis-1198620 March 2020
I usually don't give 1 star ratings because I usually watch quality tv series but this was beyond horrible. Seriously even The Twilight Zone (2019) episodes were better than this mess.

Bad acting, Bad writing, Bad directing = Bad Episode. It's a shame because the 1st episode was actually watchable (not perfect) but really good.

This is embarrassment to viewers!

So very disappointed
grlym-4684914 March 2020
The episode made zero sense. Seemed to be trying to make a point more than a story. I wanted to love this episode but it fell so short. Acting was phenomenal at moments. Corny and awkward at others. Special effects used to prove story and stay at the level of today's quality were haphazard at best when choosing the right moments. Some moments were impactful while others were so trite...and hit respective to the sc me at the moment. I so hope the next one improves

Annoying Characters Doing Stupid Thungs
tshadley-6131714 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One minute in and all I can think about is how stupid these two girls are running through the streets in the middle of the street. I'm starting to kinda route for the cars to teach them a lesson...then of course BAM! The only character I felt sorry for was the car thief who had the unfortunate bad luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time who mowed one of these dumb girls down. "I may be a car thief, but damn why in the hell are these girls playing in the streets !" Its like they DARED a car to hit them. By far just a text book example of how to create an story where you could care less about the main characters. Heck, Forrest Gump would have called these girls dumb.

Help and support from an afterlife ghost?!
blanbrn16 March 2020
This episode "The Heat" from the new Apple TV+ series "Amazing Stories" was one that was a little weak and dull still it had an emotional connection of love and friendship. It involves two inner city black teenage girls Tuka and Sterling who live in California near Oakland. Both have dreams of being long distance runners and track stars however when a car tragedy strikes Tuka things change for both. This tale becomes a theme and spin of the afterlife as you the viewer see what it's like to have a ghostly friend! The love and emotion is special proving that true friendship last no matter what. That's the main message for this episode.

Why all the haters?
comblitz18 October 2020
This show was decent. It's an episode of Amazing Stories, not a full length feature film. I feel like if this was on Black Mirror, no one would be crying. Similar stories have been done, but each having their own twist. The acting was fine (believe me, I criticize bad acting all the time). The story was good. Rated 6/10, which is pretty high for me. If people are beating up the ratings because of the sexuality, they need to really join the rest of the modern world and live with it.

Amazing flop
dpbartee19 March 2020
Script was poorly written: choppy, no flow. Acting felt like I was back in Middle School watching a play with no pace. Actresses forced their lines and over-exaggerated their motions. Can't believe anyone would ever produce this much less showcase it as Episode 2 of Amazing Stories.

The whole story is about how the two girls are gay and did not know it. Absolutely ridiculous. You don't find out till the end of the episode, but up till then, the story is horrible.

Weak again with a poor story done before. Cast completely underwhelming again.

Give this one a miss.
