This movie should've been abysmal, but it just wasn't. At its core, I'd give it a 4 for decent directing, sub-par atmosphere, and below average acting, but then there's the other factors of this movie. I have to give points for creativity, that bumps it to a five. I have to give points for an ending that I (believe or not) didn't see coming, and that was genuinely cool, that bumps it up to 5.5 stars. Then I have to give points for the special effects work. The effects were terrible, but they were that fun kind of terrible where you can tell that the filmmakers didn't take themselves too seriously.

Good when it's creepy but Tries too hard half the time

It was an okay film, not all too special, cinematography was great, lighting was good sound effects were good, and music was good, but the creepy music is constantly played, even when there is nothing even remotely creepy is going on. At the beginning it's literally just a hillbilly cutting pumpkins, that's not scary. The kid in the film was just weird, was he possessed, because no normal human child would actually act like that. When they carve the pumpkins they act like complete animals and brutally and sloppily stab the pumpkins, with over the top horror music playing in the backround, makes absolutely no sense. The evil pumpkin did look very good though, and the head that was carved like a pumpkin looked very good as well, however that idea seems too similar the the carved head from the new Halloween trailer. Overall the music was over the top and was played way more than necessary, and some of the characters' actions were just flat out strange and weird. But there were a lot of other good things I previously listed.
