Secrets Part 1 - 3
Taggart goes all literary even though the last book he read was the Oor Wullie annual.
Cameron Friel is a successful writer who has moved back to Scotland after some years in the USA.
His book has been nominated for a prestigious Scottish literary award. Both he and his American wife become victims of malicious threats and attacks. It seems someone is not happy with his pithy criticisms of Scots writers.
Meanwhile Jake Koslewski who has returned from Romania from a charity mission has gone missing and late found dead.
Jake was a lecturer who was also translating Friel's books into Russian. His wife also recently left him and he was gearing up for a custody battle.
Some notorious people also have an interest in the van he drove to Romania and back.
There is a lot going on but the story gets lost with the gangsters involved in processing drugs. It takes the focus away from the main story.
The story wants to make various points. The then topical charity work in Romania after the fall of Ceausescu regime and how people piggybacked on it with their own agenda.
The increase of youth homelessness in Glasgow. The commercialisation of higher education where learning was now a commodity. So Business Studies was in and literature was on the way out.
