Felu Failing?
DodoDroppings5 January 2023
Let's be honest here - Srijit Mukherji has clearly bagged better leads. However, "Darjeeling Jomjomat" fell flat on its face and left me both annoyed and crestfallen. "Hatyapuri" is clearly what Ray's Feluverse is supposed to look like, but it's still missing the essence of 'my' Feluda.

Indraneil Sengupta, though promising and fresh, doesn't really embody Prodosh C Mitter. His portrayal is somewhat paradoxical - he looks the part but doesn't act it. Ayush Das' Topshe doesn't work for me. Abhijeet Guha's attempt at Jatayu needs more heart and more humour.

Paran Bandopadhyay and Subhashish Mukhopadhyay prove their mettle yet again.

The whodunit works well, but the narrative doesn't really engage the viewers' attention until the final act. The telling lacks pace and urgency, quite unlike most Sandip Ray films.

Even with three parallel Feluverses currently out there, Feluda's future seems to be on shaky ground unless Sandip Ray redeems himself with his next film.

Ordinary movie - Potential lost
aniruddhamaitra7119 January 2023
Ordinary movie with a good story is the conclusion from my side.

As story, Hatyapuri is a good story with very helpful drawings for the potential film director. Many of us were having a long waiting for this film. Finally, it got released with a sense of disappointment.

Important scenes are not technically well made. As example, final scene of the fight was very ordinary. Camera work (learnt Sandip Roy was behind the camera) was again ordinary. Location Puri never really came to life. In entire movie, there is not a single good long shot. Refer back, Sonar Kella's Camel train chase scene to understand the potential we lost in Puri beach.

Dialogues are dull. Many actor choices are out of place. As example, Dhritiman would be better choice compared to Paran.

Decent enough...
sammy-s-801-77096923 December 2022
Better recovery from the last few medicore Feluda movies. Indraneil sengupta looks fresh and earnest in his performance. However the actor who played Topshe was horrible. Jatayu was fine enough. Rest of the performances was average to okay. The screenplay of the film gets uneven at times and there are moments which doesn't hold interest. The best part of the film though is the climax where the suspense unveils and the classic Feluda tune...not to forget...........The film had very low buzz coming to it's release which is very unexpected............. Overall it's watchable... Won't mind seeing Indraneil for couple of more Feludas !!

An enjoyable Affair.
soham-213581 January 2023
Hatyapuri is a well made film on a shoestring budget . It's a typical Sandip Ray Feluda film with new star casts. Indraneil Sengupta has done a good job. Topshe is total miscast . Abhijit Guha as Jatayu is decent . Seasoned actors like Subhashis Mukherjee,Supriya Dutta,Bharat Kaul, Shaheb Chatterjee are brilliant in their respective roles .The show stealer is once again veteran actor Paran Bandhopadhyay. His facial expressions ,body language , accent are just wow . Cinematography is decent ,editing is Good . Screenplay could have been better .The first half is slow , second half is pacy and engaging . The climax sequence is awesome. Overall an enjoyable affair.

Worst Feluda ever
bhattacharjjdipali31 December 2022
No chemistry between feluda, topshe and jatayu. Very poor acting and execution. The worst editing ever. Shame on the makers for destroying the legacy of our feluda. Honestly the worst feluda ever. There is a constant rat race between the directors to make the worst feluda movie ever. They are trying their best to ruining the legacy of our childhood hero feluda.

Casting is another point I would like to talk about. Not a single character was portrayed correctly. There is no smartness in feluda, topshe looked like an idiot and our favorite lalmohan babu's character was full of overacting. And lastly an extremely underwhelming climax. If you do not want to destroy the nostalgic memory of feluda do not ever watch this movie. Shameful that the makers is ruiningthe legacy of feluda. Extremely dissatisfied and dissapointed.

ndranil Sengupta as Feluda is completely inconsistent in my eyes after saw this worst movie ~
pranabsengupta-6841527 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Indranil Sengupta as Feluda is completely inconsistent in my eyes after saw this worst movie ~ the way I have seen Feluda since I was a child or the image I have had in my imagination since I was a child. This new Feluda does not match at all ~ neither in terms of personality nor in terms of that familiar voice ~ the same In the case of applicable Jatayu ~ Sandeep Roy's big fault is that he thinks of Satyajit Ray as his father and not himself. In my eyes this new Feluda and "Hatyapuri" would have been better treated as a modern thriller without Pradosh Mitra without Jatayu. The right casting should have been Feluda's and Jatayu's one and only Anirban Bhattacharya and Anirban Chakraborty at the present moment.

Hatyapuri Honest Review
soumyatanu-2979524 December 2022
Amazing storytelling! Excellent chemistry among this new trio! Indraneil is pitch-perfect as Feluda. Abhijit Guha has passed with letter marks as Jatayu. Other characters played by Paran Bandopadhyay and Subhasis Mukhopadhyay are exquisite! Visible utilisation of Feluda's "mogojastro" and the whodunit format has just made the movie a treat to watch for the Feluda-fans! We have already watched it once, but again are going to watch on the 31st of December 2022. Don't listen to the biased reviews of the anti-Ray Reviewers on YouTube or social media. Just go and enjoy the movie. Support this new trio. Thus new team will only get better and better in the next Feluda movies. This is guaranteed!

Feluda fails again: a snooze-inducing time capsule of boredom.
iknafilms10 June 2023
Paran Banerjee and Subhasish Mukherjee bring a captivating presence to the screen, while Indronil's portrayal of Feluda isn't bad either. However, the rest of the major cast fails to fit their roles and deliver subpar performances. The film's color tone and storytelling style feel outdated and uninteresting. Another issue is that although Sandip tries to modernize Feluda, the script lacks any significant improvements. This is crucial because in a period piece, Feluda's behavior and actions should align with the character's essence, creating a harmonious blend. Whenever a contemporary twist is introduced, the story should reflect some modernity as well.

An Authentic and Strong Continuation of the Canonical Ray-Franchise
hulofish30 December 2022
Indraneil Sengupta's Feluda seamlessly picks up from where Sabyasachi Chakraborty had left.

Ayush Das brings freshness to Topshe's portrayal and Abhijit Guha suprised me with a portrayal of Jatayu which stands out unique from his powerful predecessors. All the side characters have been brilliantly performed, and finally after a long time, we have Sandip Ray behind the cameras after Royal Bengal Rahasya. The classical approach of him can never be replicated by any of the web-series directors.

This feluda has the perfect Doylian essence of the textual Sherlock Holmes, and we hope to see more feluda adaptations, under Sandip Ray's direction only, with this cast.

Great story with lost potential due to the typical direction
rifatuls26 February 2024
What a great story created by the none other than Sattayajit Ray!

However again list the potential even at this age with such good support and equipments by Sandip Ray! He really needs to put effort on making things right and not predictable. The story in the book and movie has two different flavors which he keeps on losing. More than that the biggest issue comes into the story telling and way of driving the viewers mind! It's painfully slow and terribly predictable that we only watch for the love of the series created by the books only

Sad to say and its a reality of this is the benchmark, then the new generation online will divert to order directives and will never know how good the great Feluda was.

Movie was too slow and the culprits were predictable.
destinedtobeking30 December 2022
If the makers are watching this review then inwill request them to make movie which will be liked in theatre not a ott based movie. If you are planning to make hit movies.

Feluda needed to be replaced he is no where close to soumitra chattopadhyay and sabyasachi chakraborty.

Rest were also not as good as the previous actors .story was predictable and movie was too boring. Background music was taken from Friday th 13th .only thing I liked about the movie was that it was typical Bengali movie dark and no lame jokes what you get in current movies .

Location was good but was ver limited they could have shown more location.

Poor acting and lack of liveness in scenes
amritoit5 June 2023
I did not feel like I am watching Feluda. The scenes were not getting its liveness. Puri didn't get its life in the movie. Acting of Jatayu, Topse was not at all happening. I was missing Jatayu from beginning to end. Feluda acting was maybe okay but it was missing the loving connection with Topse and Jatayu in the movie. There were not enough loving chat between Topse, Feluda, Jatayu. Paran Da was okay. Overall I was not finding my Feluda here, if one good thing is to say about this movie is its better to watch over recently released Shabash Feluda by Arindam Sil. I will recommend to watch for timepass thats it.

Extremely well-made Feluda for only Felu-lovers
charleenmtyson-8850614 January 2023
After Royal Bengal Rahasya, this one has been the best Feluda in whodunit format. But this movie will be enjoyable only by the Felu-lovers and those who have read the novel. The chemistry amongst the new trio is superb! Indraneil Sengupta is pitch-perfect as Feluda. Jatayu and Topse are also passed with first-class marks. I have no hesitation to give it 10/10. I don't know why people are deliberately ranking it lower. Seems like today's generation has totally lost all the affections towards the classics like this one. They only favour masala movies, which Hatyapuri is definitely not! The storytelling is exactly following the novel's structure, which is a treat for the Feluda-fans like me!

Well directed Feluda film in the contemporary era!!
sanjubhat30 December 2022
Film Review: Hotyapuri (House of Death) ( A Feluda Mystery) screening in cinema's #sanjuzzreviews #hotyapuri #feluda #SatyajitRay #SandipRay #indraneelsengupta

A Christmas treat for my bong friends. Directed by Sandip Ray, this one is a Feluda Mystery set in the contemporary era.

Plot: Pradosh Mitter aka Feluda with his loyal sidekicks Lalmohan Ganguly aka ace crime writer Jatayu and cousin Topse are vacationing in Puri when murders start happening on the picturesque Puri beach. Are these killings related to the disappearance of a rare manuscript from a whimsical local DG Sen or is there something more sinister brewing.

Indraneel Sengupta as Feluda does a decent job. He seems a bit stiff at first but gradually eases into the character. Abhijit Guha as Jatayu has his moments and provides much needed comic relief. Paran Bandopadhyay is an expert at creating intrigue and does so with ease. Subhasish Mukherjee also as a small but interesting role.

With no loud BGM or unnecessary histrionics , the film has glimpses of the Feluda films directed by Satyajit Ray. A strong plot, good direction & a praiseworthy climax. Aur kya chaiye Feluda fans ko!!

On a personal note, I liked Tota Roy Chowdhury & Anirban Chakraborti more as Feluda & Jayayu resp. ( In Feluda Pherot & Feluda Goendagiri).

A good movie nevertheless. Definitely worth a watch 🙂 Going with 3.5/5 got this one .. Adios 🙂!!

A new beginning, that starts with a blast!
soumyadeepc-225742 January 2023
First of all, please don't let the Youtube reviews decide it for you. Go and watch the movie, then judge it for yourself. The new trio doesn't even let you know that they are doing it for the first time. The nostalgic camera angles, light effects are back. Indraneil Sengupta has done a fantastic job, he never lets you down, a true "feluda attitude" is always present. I would also like say, that this is one of the most interesting Feluda story. It is not at all predictable, atleast when I read it I was very surprised, with the conclusion. So, watching this on the big screen, and that too with such a wonderful cast, was a mesmerizing experience for me.

Neat and clean Feluda, brings fresh air after long time
samantaavijit-6842810 January 2023
This is my first time watching feluda on a big screen and it's a absolute delightful experience. Sandip Ray kept it very simple with a good storytelling. Have heard mixed reviews before I watched it. I kept my open and wanted to experience the new trio. I would say I have not been disappointed. I am confident Feluda, Topshe and Lalmohan babu can deliver another superb performance next time as well. I would say Lalmohan babu physical appearance may have to improve a bit. Indranil made his mark within first 5-10 min of the starting. I liked Topshe much better than some of the previous actors played in earlier films.

Overall. I would recommend others to experience it in theatre and would eagerly wait to see the trio again in big screen.

Nostalgic and Flavours of Book
amitavamitracreation24 December 2022
Indraneil Sengupta is definitely a Tick to Bucket List for our Feluda Fans.

Good Characterization Nice but Simple Storytelling however edit could have been more engaging..

Overall treat to Our Nostalgia.. Flavour of Original story is intact.

Cinematography is good but definitely there are more scope to engage viewers through master Cinematography.

Background score is as always awesome with feel of suspense.

Production design is upto the mark along with Costume, Looks, Set and Makeup.

Direction is simple and narrative is accepted.

Somewhere VFX is noticable and could have been more promising.

Acting, Cinematography and Direction, BGM is the main spine of this master piece.

Fresh Casting, Good Storytelling
sandipbosu26 December 2022
It was amazing to see Feluda back after six long years. The new Feluda story has brand new casting. Feluda portrayed by Indraneil is quite nice, and Abhijit Guha playing the role of Lalmohan Ganguly was also good. However, Ayush Das playing the role of Topsey was perfect. The dreamy eyes of teenager looking mesmerised at the Bay of Bengal from hotel balcony is a scene that I will remember and has inspired me to visit Puri one more time in near future. The chemistry of the actors blends well with the plot of the story. The director Sandip Ray has done an excellent job translating the story from 1979 perspective to 2019. Interesting to note were the finer details like Feluda having bread and omlette for breakfast, while Lalmohan babu prefering Luchi alurdum, and Topsey having fruits. The climax of the story at Bhujango Niwas seems to come out directly from the drawings of the great Satyajit Roy. Just do not forget to watch out the last scene, which appears after the name of casting and crew comes on the screen. A lot of gentlemen and ladies attending the screening, left beforehand. Overall it is a nice family entertainment movie and it would be unjust to rate it lower than a 10 point.

Highly suspicious!
schowdhuri-9656615 May 2024
Very good movie, by Sandip Ray again. Sandip Ray now experiments with Indranil Sengupta, for the starting he has done a good job for being Felu Mittr.

The thing about Satyajit Ray's writing is that no matter how many times you have read the story it is always thrilling to watch it on big screens.

However, I feel there should be more endeavor to improve the bengali language , I mean the pronunciation should be better. Hatyapuri is a Christmas gift to all the felu da lovers! I really loved and enjoyed it only because I love seeing these kind of detective and mind boggling movies. I wish all the best for making more movies by Sandip Ray.

Hatyapuri: A Thrilling and Faithful Feluda Film by Sandip Ray
paulsomnath-580982 July 2023
Hatyapuri is a Bengali adventure drama mystery film directed by Sandip Ray, based on one of the popular Feluda stories written by his father Satyajit Ray. The film stars Indraneil Sengupta as the iconic detective Feluda, Abhijit Guha as his sidekick Jatayu and Ayush Das as his young cousin Topshe. The film follows their investigation of a murder that takes place in the seaside town of Puri, where they are on a vacation.

The film is a faithful adaptation of the original story, with some modern touches such as cellphones and computers. The plot is engaging and suspenseful, with twists and turns that keep the viewers guessing till the end. The film also captures the scenic beauty of Puri and its culture, with some stunning shots of the Jagannath temple and the beach.

The performances are commendable, especially Indraneil Sengupta, who portrays Feluda with confidence and charisma. He brings out the intelligence, courage and wit of the character, while also showing his human side. Abhijit Guha is hilarious as Jatayu, the comic relief of the film. He delivers some witty dialogues and adds some fun to the serious situations. Ayush Das is impressive as Topshe, the smart and loyal assistant of Feluda. He shows maturity and enthusiasm in his role.

The supporting cast is also good, with Paran Banerjee, Subhasish Mukherjee, Bharat Kaul and others playing their parts well. The music by Sandip Ray is soothing and catchy, with some songs that fit the mood of the film. The cinematography by Soumik Haldar is excellent, with some crisp and clear visuals that enhance the experience.

Hatyapuri is a must-watch for all Feluda fans and mystery lovers. It is a well-made film that pays tribute to the legacy of Satyajit Ray and his creation. It is also a refreshing and entertaining film that will appeal to all age groups.

I hope you liked my review. You can watch Hatyapuri on ZEE512.

Great movie but.......
mithuroy-9228824 December 2022
The movie was great but a bit problem with the cinematography and the direction could have been better overall great indraneel was good too paran Bandopadhyay, saheb chaterjee, and subhashis killed it they were fire.

But the topshe character was the worst he was totally unmatched

The cinematography could have been better as when bilas Majumder was falling he didn't have the mole on his forehead which is a movie mistake Also, the climax was great but there was room for enhancement

And everyone knows that no comments on the story of course the god legend Satyajit ray

And the positive is the modern touch such as smartphones and the internet was not overused like in Sherlock Holmes which killed the original flavor The modern touch was good.
