Rather dull and uneventful

I have no idea what the filmmakers were going for here. A love story? A political thriller? A bit of both?

Maybe something was lost in translation. Maybe it was the terrible acting and awful direction.

I struggled to care and it became a chore to watch. Latino migrants from Uruguay and Venezuela try to support a political coup having fled the country from.......checks notes.....Paris? I didn't get any of it.

It just rambled on and on and then finished with a clunker of an ending.

Beware the numerous ten out of ten ratings on here. They are clearly from people connected to the movie. This far from a ten.

Review of the film "Two autumns in Paris" Eurasia Film Festival
venezuelanlaw28 November 2020
This is a love story of two people from Latin America, which takes place in Paris. This film has a simple storyline, but contains many meanings: love, politics, future, past, feeling, duty, homeland. The film takes place in two-time planes at once: in our days and in the '80s. These days, Antonio Rodriguez is coming to Paris for a conference about human rights in Latin America. On the way to the conference, he remembers a love story with a young girl from Paraguay, Maria Teresa. Antonio m, a native of Venezuela, lived in Paris and studied law. At the University, he met Maria Teresa and from the first days of acquaintance, a love passion broke out between them. They began to live together. Antonio came from a well-to-do family and he was indifferent to politics. Maria Teresa, while living in Paraguay, participated with her lover in student protests and went through prison and torture. She managed to escape to Paris, and her boyfriend is presumed dead. The main content of the film is the love story of Antonio and Maria Teresa. Also, with a few flashbacks, we learn about the revolutionary past of a girl. Despite emigration, Maria Teresa continues to keep in touch with her compatriots living in France. Over time, she manages to change Antonio's attitude to politics, and he also becomes a participant in the protests at the Embassy of Paraguay. In 1989, the dictator Alfredo Stroessner was deposed. And this fact has changed the fate of Antonio and Maria Teresa. Maria Teresa is a strong woman ready to fight for the freedom of her homeland. At the same time, she remains a woman and she craves love. Paradoxically, Maria Theresa combines boldness and audacity with fragility, tenderness, and femininity. It's necessary to say some words about the peculiar work of the camera. Each scene is shot with a minimum number of glues. This way creates the presence effect. We have the opportunity to observe the scene as if we were present next to the characters. A lot of shots were taken with a moving camera so that the viewer's involvement in the scene was as deep as possible. It also creates a sense of reality if we're watching real life through a documentary camera. The film has wonderful music that creates an atmosphere of melancholic sadness. We should also say a special thanks to the director for the lack of postcard views of Paris. The autumn mood is transmitted through the dreary loneliness of Antonio, who tries in vain to find his beloved girl. The film "Two autumns in Paris" leaves a heavy aftertaste. This is not just a sad love story. This is a politics intertwined with personal life, and the question: "what would I do in such a situation?" We empathize with both characters: Maria Teresa and Antonio. This is the case when, due to the vicissitudes of fate, good people lose each other, but do not stop to love.

An incredible film about love and social justice
mundoterrorzombie2 September 2021
Endless twists and curve balls are thrown at the audience in Two Autumns in Paris, a political drama centered around Antonio, a wealthy upper-class young man who came to France to acquire his education, and Maria Teresa, a Paraguayan political refugee who came to France to seek asylum. Thought coming from difference backgrounds, their passionate love and trauma bring them together again and again and bridges the social gaps between them, resulting in the most transformative year in Antonio's life. An important film about social justice and human rights. Captivating watch.

Review from the Jury of the New York Film Awards
ladydicastle22 December 2020
Two Autumns in Paris won Best Narrative Feature. Juror Nick Connor, who won the same category in 2019 and joined this year's judging panel, explained his decision: "Two Autumns in Paris is incredibly heartbreaking, nuanced, and deeply touching. A historic examination of class, refugees, and political rebellion that subtly speaks in parallel to the world today. Its turbulent romance set with the background of the 'City of Love' is relatable and raw. As an audience, we fall in love with María Teresa and Antonio just as the characters do with one another, which is down to two fantastic central performances from Maria Antonieta Hidalgo and Slavko Sorman. A scene at the halfway mark is so unforgettable in its brutality that it truly imprints itself in your memory for days. Gibelys Coronado's vision is beautifully classical and traditional yet a story of this kind has never been shown on our screens before. Plaudits to Coronado and Francisco Villarroel for bringing this narrative to life, especially in a time when it's themes and ideas are so important. No matter who you are, this story will likely enlighten you, warm you, and then may even break you."

"Two Autumns in Paris," is a timely exploration of political upheaval, activism and privilege. When you match a brilliant director with amazing talent and give them a really really good script, the result is magic! I love this political drama.
