Enter Shiv

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a great episode! Stargirl continues to get more enjoyable every week. The first half of this two-parter focused heavily on Cindy. She was fleshed out into more than the "high school mean girl" character she appeared to be from the start, and is actually a really fascinating villain.

She's the daughter of Dr. Ito/the Dragon King, and has some superhuman qualities. We've seen she can regenerate and she has blades in her wrists, which is so sick. It also sounds like she's responsible for her mother's death, and I'm intrigued to learn more about that.

According to Beth, Cindy wasn't always so mean, so I'm interested to see the circumstances of her mother's death that changed her into who she is today.

There's already a little bit of sympathy being built up for Cindy, but I personally want her to remain this ruthless villain. If we continue to go down the path of the ISA's children joining their ranks, I think Cameron and maybe Henry Jr. will be the teens who possibly switch sides. Specifically Cameron.

I thought Shiv's suit looked really cool, but it's weird she doesn't wear a mask. The big fight scene between Shiv and Stargirl was great too. There's still a lot of obvious wire work, but there is a certain creativity with how some of the fight scenes are executed that makes them enjoyable nonetheless.

Courtney continues to be a tad bit annoying, but I try to remember she's fifteen. She once again proved Pat's point that she needs more training, and they have to learn to work as a team.

I was hoping for a great training montage, so I was just as annoyed as Yolanda, Beth, and Rick when Courtney took on everything herself.

Now that she's been brutally beaten by Cindy, I'm sure she's been knocked down a peg. Maybe she will FINALLY start listening to Pat.

There's also some brewing tension within the Whitmore-Dugan household, as Barbara and Mike are definitely catching on to Pat and Courtney. Mike also doesn't like how much time Courtney's spending with his dad.

Other than the Shiv stuff, my other favorite parts of the episode were the janitor scenes!

Apparently he's the Shining Knight, who I have no knowledge about, so I'm gonna wait for Stargirl to tell me.

Overall, another great episode and I'm excited to see what comes from the second half of the season.

Part One of the two parter "Shiv" includes world building, reveals and good drama
Holt34430 June 2020
This episode has a lot of character development and some much needed ones from the good and bad sides. It's a two parter and this serves more as a build up for the second part. There's a lot of details, hints and reveals in this episode and I enjoyed them all. The costume and prop department continues to impress me, they're all very talented and tries to make the costumes as comic accurate as possible. The drama and writing was good, the world building was the best though as we got to learn more of the JSA and ISA. The storyline with the Injustice Society is so far the superior, the cast continues to shine and they does the characters justice and makes perfect performances.

As the title of the episode is called, the character Shiv got introduced which is the archenemy of Stargirl in the comics and will she be her archenemy in the show too? We'll have to wait and see but one thing I do know is she was interesting and brilliantly played by Meg DeLacy. The costume and powers she had was spot on, a villain I want to see more of! The action sequence of this episode actually was against the two, Stargirl vs Shiv and it was a good scene. The choreography isn't really that incredible but it's entertaining and fun to watch, I've seen reviews that doesn't like the fight sequences in this show and yes it isn't Arrow that's just another level of action. I'm happy of what we have gotten and believe it will be improved more when the heroes gets better.

Wow! Once again an amazing episode. I'm glad we get more information on Cindy's homelife and her family, as it makes her more of a fleshed out character. Her suit also looks great, and her battle with Courtney was awesome. I also love the shocking reveal of Shining Knight! It was an amazing episode!!!

Born evil?
jeffpeck50161 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Cindy appears to have been created and raised evil by Dr. Ito. There seems to be hope for her to turn good when she showed some interest in becoming friends with Courtney. Perhaps Courtney after getting whipped so badly by Cindy will take training a little more seriously but I doubt it since they seem to have written her character to be hard headed and somewhat narrow minded. I really enjoy this show and I really appreciate it as the CW seems to be trying to diversify in to mysteries and dramas. As it is, at least we have Stargirl on Tuesday and Agents of S.h.i.e.l.d on Wednesday on another network. I hope this lasts for more than one season; the show is well written with good actors.

Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
That was such a good episode. My favorite yet. I especially liked the Courtney/Cindy fight near the end. Very impressive. I also liked the part where Cameron asks Courtney to the dance. It's only the second episode where we see them interact but I must say, I'm rooting for them.

Pros and cons
jwwalrath-227-8548730 June 2020
Interesting episode as we learn about CIndy and follow her and Courtney's intersecting paths. The main fight is good.

However, the basic teenage drama is still pretty basic. Even as we get to learn more about Shiv some really good ideas are done with her, her constant mean teen dialogue is still vexing. Also, the high school stuff and the dark, dark stuff don't mesh well.

Great Introduction to an Important Villain
KookShanty1 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Courtney is very obnoxious in this episode but the ending does imply she may finally learn her lesson, and begin to grow as a character. We also learn a lot about Cindy, and it's very interesting. We see how she is both horrible but also we can be sympathetic to her during her struggles. All of this leads to the final fight which was very well done. There are also some tidbits about Justin and Henry Jr., which are very intriguing.

Heroine is arrogant as ever
ADAKENNDY30 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The reason why this episode is not bad is that the action scenes are good. The heroine is as arrogant as ever, and the little boy league is really not good. There are problems with the direction of the screenwriter. The protagonist team is set as a problem child, and the villain has become A mature and steady look.

The Cindy episode
hnt_dnl4 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Admittedly, among several other characters, I wasn't very high on this Cindy girl in the first few episodes. She was very much a stereotypical mean girl cheerleader character and ironically this is the first episode we see her actually being a cheerleader is when I start to like her! LOL Some of those characters still have yet to leave an impression, but this episode SHIV PART ONE showcased the girl that will most probably end up being the main antagonist to Stargirl. Also very ironically, Cindy turns out to share several traits with Courtney: outspoken, abrasive, impulsive, and most importantly wanting to continue her father's legacy, although it's still up for debate if Starman is Courtney's real father, but the point is in their similarities. Where they DIFFER greatly is that Cindy has no empathy for human life and she actually kills a couple of her father's minions in this one. Meanwhile, Cindy and Courtney are forced to work together on a lab assignment and unbelievably the 2 girls bond, but things get complicated later and they end up fighting as their alter egos, Stargirl and Shiv in another impressive climactic battle sequence.

In other news, the Teen JSA continues to be the weak link of this show, with Yolanda being the only lovable character. I hate how she's being lumped in with such one-dimensional characters like Rick and Beth. Writers, please give this actress material separate from JSA because Yolanda's character deserves it. Also, we finally start to see some cracks in the main family armor as Barb and Mike are both getting suspicious of all of Pat and Court's excuses and starting to wonder about their extracurricular activities. I hope this goes somewhere because I really do love the casting of all 4 actors for the Dugan-Whitmore family as they have great rapport and natural chemistry. Also, Henry continues to be a dull character who spends every episode standing in Brainwave's hospital room and looking worried and sad. This guy needs something to do and pronto! Finally, Cameron (it took me 7 episodes to finally remember this kid's name) seems like he's going to be the plot device love interest for the main character, but hopefully one of the good variety and not bad. So to sum up this episode, 7 stars for Cindy and 1 star for everything else.

Stupid character
hklaurent12 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's episode 7 and I still don't like the show because of Stargirl, it takes forever and she still doesn't understand what team means, She just keeps being a brat and bringing more trouble. I guess this show targeting kids at age of 12 or under. I keep watching only because I patiently wait for another moment of Joel McHale

Seriously???
gareth-754421 July 2020
This show gets worse with each episode, these are not the reimagined JSA characters from the DC comics, these lame teen so called superheros suck big time, the entire show is lame, stupid wire work used for every action scene, the story, plot & dialogue seems to be written by a12 year old. Zero character development beyond "put on a costume & punch things or blow them up" the only "hero" so far has been Pat in a ridiculous robot made from car parts, he at least stopped a bus from falling off a bridge, none of the other so called heroes has done anything, they've not protected anyone or saved anyone, they haven't even prevented a crime or caught a criminal. Every character is one dimensional. Pat supposedly moved his family to blue valley to investigate the ISA yet none has been shown, all that has been shown is the lame teenagers at high school & a bunch of non powered teens dressing in awful costumes & gaining super powers & all they want to do is punch things & blow them up, ridiculous lame writing, normal people don't act like this, a normal persons first thought isn't to just punch someone or fight them. This show only reflects the awfulness of Johns so called creativity, every episode is quite literally the same, lots of high school garbage a few scenes of home life, introduce a new character, a 4 minute fight scene & a scene of Pat telling Courtney she shouldn't be doing this & then her defying him then 1 or 2 scenes of the bad guys spouting bad dialogue, no structure, no build up of the characters into a team, no development of the bad guys evil plans beyond a few scenes scattered amongst the awful teen drama. DC should stick to animation, their live action shows are just god awful comedy's minus the laughs.
